How To Use eBay To Find Awesome Deals On Collectibles
March 27, 2008 12:00 am ConsumerPeople love shopping on eBay, especially collectors. There, you can find just about anything you collect including items you can’t find anywhere else. There are tips you can use to make buying your collectibles there easier and more affordable.
Categories
EBay lists their items for sale in categories and subcategories. For example if you collect dolls, search under that main category. If you collect only a certain type of doll like cultural dolls or dolls of specific ethnicity, you can search under the subcategory. EBay also allows you to save your favorite categories, so every time you visit the site it will be easy to go right to the category of your choice. You can also save it in “Favorites”, located on your Internet browser
Description Errors or Omissions
Another way that can help you save money is by looking for description errors or omissions. Chances are that if you have been collecting something for a while, you can look at a picture of it and identify its value. Many sellers’ don’t know how valuable their merchandise is and list it in general terms. You can contact the seller and with just few questions, confirm if that item is more valuable than he is selling it for. This will allow you to get it at a good price and either keep it or resell it to make a profit.
Beware of Descriptions.
Many sellers describe their merchandise, as “rare” and this might not be the case. Don’t hesitate to contact the seller to get more information about it. You can research the item and find out if it’s rare or not
Keep Track of Your Favorite Sellers
As you continue to shop on eBay, you will probably find several sellers that you like to make multiple purchases from. These are the sellers who consistently offer quality items at good prices. The site has a “favorite sellers” category, so you can keep track of them and what they are selling. You can also add them to the “Favorites” on your Internet browser.
Be Willing to Walk Away from an Auction
Don’t be afraid to walk away from an auction if the bidding becomes too high. New items are listed everyday and if you don’t get the one you want at one auction, you can pretty much be sure that you can get it at another. This helps you to avoid overbidding.
Shipping Prices
Some sellers offer free shipping, while others make you pay for it. Not all of these sellers charge just the actual cost to ship the item. Some also charge handling fees, so you might get the item for a good price and then pay too much for the shipping. If you’re going to buy several items from the same seller, check to see if they will combine the shipping fees, to save you money.
Shopping on eBay is fun and by following these tips, you can make it affordable as well.
