Management is the Key to a Successful Start-up Business

Start Up No Comments

A key element to entrepreneurial success is choosing the right people to be part of your management team. In fact, angel investors and venture capitalists both view strength of the management team as the major determining factor in whether they are willing to make an investment in the company. But it is also important for an entrepreneur to have outside advisors he or she can trust and rely on, an accountant being one of these. Even a start-up company with little or no revenues needs to have a good accountant available, as well as an attorney who has experience with young businesses.

Accountants are important members of a company’s team. If you’re a start-up or small business you may not have the resources to hire an accountant full time. There are software programs that can do most of the data entry but it’s still a good idea to hire an accounting firm on a consulting basis to oversee your accounting systems, processing, and tax returns.

Attorneys are just as important, perhaps more so than accountants. An attorney can guide you to select the most appropriate way to set up your business. The best time to retain an attorney is before you need one. It’s worth the money to know that if something comes up you have a legal expert who is familiar with your company. Attorneys have valuable contacts with venture capital firms and private investors. They know what is reasonable in a private offering , what isn’t, and what must be included.

An attorney can also help you protect your intellectual property, trademarks, trade names and trade secrets. While it may seem expensive to have an experienced attorney on your management team it will avoid problems later.

Business Appraisers can tell you how much your business is worth and why. If you’re considering refinancing, that business appraisal can help you determine how much debt the company can carry.

If you’re considering selling your business the business appraiser can provide a ball park valuation. Of course the buyer will want to conduct their own due diligence and may even hire their own independent business appraiser, that’s to be expected. The appraisal you have completed gives you a bench mark to start negotiations.

A Business Plan Consultant can expedite the business planning process. If you’re looking for investors a well thought out concise business plan is critical. If you’re considering starting a company, a business plan will help you improve your chances for success and avoid making serious mistakes. You may be the only one who reads this plan, although you should have input from a number of other people with business experience. A business plan is an important ingredient to the success of a start-up business.

Using Consultants to provide services you need on an outsourcing basis can be much less expensive in the long run than hiring someone as an employee. The consultant probably will cost more on an hourly basis but you only need their services on a project basis. Consultants can provide programming, technical assistance, and communications expertise, just to name a few areas.

When hiring a consultant, or consulting firm, ask for references and check those references. A good place to start the search for a consulting firm is to ask your attorney and accountant for recommendations.

60% of Americans Aspire to be Entrepreneurs. Is Your Kid One of Them?

Start Up No Comments

Inspired by the huge successes of young entrepreneurs, many Americans are now aspiring to run their own business empire. What’s more, the need to nurture these skills from an early age has compelled parents to strongly encourage entrepreneurship development amongst their children. Thus, they become more attuned to knowledge and information on how to nurture these skills, and even implement daily activities which aim to develop these skills from pre-school onwards.

Indeed, the emphasis on entrepreneurship has gained ground in recent years due to massive layoffs and restructuring in corporate America. The lucrative profits made by business owners as compared to the absence of job security in employment, has prompted many to become self-employed.

What is encouraging though is that studies have shown that entrepreneurship can be learned and developed. It is not an in-born gift as many believe. Traits such as creative thinking, discipline, independence, confidence, strong communication skills, the ability to take risks, motivation and persistence can all be learnt and acquired over time.

However, in order to give our children a head start, these traits need to be developed from a young age. A study conducted by a former director of the Center of Entrepreneurial Leadership has discovered that entrepreneurial traits are already demonstrated by one in four kids while still at kindergarten. The down side to this is that if these skills are not developed during grade school, only 3% of high school graduates will utilize these abilities.

These findings reinforce the fact that as children don’t develop these skills in school, parents play a vital role in facilitating the development of these abilities. First, they need to teach their children the value of money. Apart from that, parents could involve their children in the process of making adult decisions. This will help them develop their maturity and decision-making skills. Another initiative parents could take is to pay their children to perform chores around the house, so that they are able to make the connection between working and earning money.

As for older kids, parents function as the mentor to their kids’ business ideas, providing positive input for idea expansion and improvement. In addition, parents are also in a position to help their kids develop their first business plan, and also to put their plan into action. Children could start with any small business ideas, a newspaper delivery business, dog-walking or even tutoring. In addition, parents need to constantly use positive reinforcements on their kids in order to boost self-esteem and confidence.

Last but not least, to encourage teamwork and exchange of ideas with their peers, kids should also be enrolled in entrepreneurial programs such as the Kids and Business seminars. These programs will help to infuse new insights, incorporate leadership skills and formally impart business skills to kids. Most importantly, these programs are essential to cover areas where parents are not equipped to teach. Ultimately, these kids will be ready with a full set of entrepreneurial skills that they can use to jumpstart their business.

In the Bay Area, Virtual Office Space is Your First Step to Success

Start Up No Comments

Maybe you’ve invented and hold the patent on a unique gadget that would sell like hotcakes … if you only could get it on the market without going broke in the process. Perhaps you’ve been inspired with a marketing idea - or know, with your background and experience, that you simply could do something much better than companies offering a similar service in your area - but the cost and headaches of opening a business are keeping your dreams just that … dreams.

If so, then here’s some good news - you’re about to wake up to a bright, new business day! Your professional dreams can become a reality now, thanks to the clever idea of owners of a small company who were facing the same problems and challenges several years ago. This ingenious idea sprang from the same kind of “Oh, if only…?” thoughts you’ve had yourself - “If only I could afford the office space and personnel, I just know I could take my company to the top!”

From that lament came an “Aha!” moment, and a new service was born that opened the door for would-be new-business owners, and entrepreneurs, to enter the marketplace and give their ideas the chance to sprout wings and fly in the bay area: executive offices.

What is it? The idea is to offer full office services to small businesses and entrepreneurs, on either a short-term or long-term basis; this lifts the burden of agonizing over space requirements and overhead, and frees business owners to concentrate on refining, adjusting and marketing their ideas to the consumers of the world.

The service doesn’t just provide a cramped, one-room office with secondhand furniture and a mailing address, either. Perhaps that was something of the reality at first - just a quick, strong lifeline tossed out to struggling strat-ups - but through the years it has evolved, (much in the way that “temp agency” services have grown), to provide, in San Francisco, virtual office space with everything needed by the small businessperson from “soup to nuts,” as the saying goes.

Today, you can take advantage of such services as beautiful office space with quality furnishings to suit both your current size and your projected growth; a reception area and a receptionist; word processing; phone services; high-speed wireless internet; call answering and forwarding; notary public services; your company’s name on the building directory; janitorial services, - literally everything you can think of to set up and support your business - without having to worry about, (or pay for) insurance packages and other employee benefits, salaries, IRS requirements, building rent, maintenance fees, and the like.

Alternatively, if you are working out of your home and want to continue to do so, you can take advantage of the services of “virtual” office space. Combine a high-profile CentrL Business District address with an online presence built, maintained and managed by a full-service virtual office company that will build your web pages, forward customer inquiries, handle order fulfillment, and keep you alerted to any problems or glitches.

With the kind of support service available to small business owners and entrepreneurs today, your entire focus can be where it should rightly be - on building and growing your business, to fulfill your professional dreams.

“I want a job to work from home” seems to as a statement from someone who is determined. But what exactly is he/she determined to do?

Why would a person want to find a job to work from home?

1- Feeling threatened at work and wants something to fall back on.
2- Day job is not providing a good income and wants to increase it.
3- A retired person who does not want to sit around doing nothing.

These are only few examples to explain why a person would try to find a job to work from home. You can increase that list to include any other reasons that you might think of.

If you want to work from home, why did you opt for a job to work from home? Why not establish your own home based business?

I am not going to list the advantages of a home based business over finding a job to work from home. All what I am trying to do here is put the option in front of you in case you have not thought of it.

4- A job is a job whether it was online, offline, at home or in an office. There is always a financial cap. You know it is not the same when it comes to having your own business.
5- Yet a job can be more secure in terms of earnings, unlike having your own business.

Online Business Selection Process

Start Up No Comments

You’ve seen the claims about massive amounts of money being made on the Internet. Are they true? YES! How can you get your share of this Internet wealth? The odds are against you. Over 90% of people who venture into the Internet to make money fail.

Well, you need a plan or some sort of process that is proven and will work. If you work this plan and stay true to the process, your chances of success online will be much greater.

This process works, but there is no guarantee that what you do will work. Success is very elusive. If you are persistent and willing to learn as you go, you should do quite well.

The Process is broken down into 7 steps. They are listed below, in the particular order that will work.

1. Niche Selection
2. Site Selection
3. Prioritizing the List
4. Product Selection
5. Presenting and Proposal
6. Logistics
7. Review

The 7-step process is an iteractive process. After reviewing, you may find that you have to go back to step 1 and modify to come up with a winner. Let’s go through step 1 in more detail.

Step 1. Niche Selection

- You will want to find a niche that is tightly focused within a wider niche essentially, a niche within a niche. The more narrow your focus, the easier it will be to rise to the top of that niche. Once you have conquered the tightly focused niche, you can expand to the wider niche, and on up the chain. You can get ideas from online resources such as any of the big search engines, Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc. A narrow niche will usually have 2 to 4 keyword phrases associated with it. An example would be a wide niche of “car parts”. Narrower niches would include “used auto part”, “race car part”, “chevy car part”, etc. You can see that this would produce quite a list of 2 to 4 keyword phrases that would narrow the wider “car parts” niche.

- Another thing to keep in mind when selecting a narrow niche is the content that will be available for the product niche. Will you be able to find enough content related to the narrow product niche to create pages of information? The more content available or that can be produced, the better.

- What are the best ways to identify a niche? There are probably as many ways to identify a niche as there are people looking for a niche. Here are some tried and true methods to locate a niche that should allow you to identify some great niche ideas.

- Your own knowledge and/or personal interests. A hobby or passion for which you already have expertise. Remember, you are an expert if you say that you are and back it up with pertinent information.

- Desk Research. Articles, Browsing, and Newsgroups. You can find all kinds of ideas looking through publications from many sources. Keep an eye out for the advertisements. If you see certain ones over and over, they are making money and would be worth taking a further look.

- Paid-for Research. If you have more money than time, hire a consultant to find a niche that meets your specifications. You should be able to find excellent information with the right consultant. Be up front with them from the start as to your expectations, and they should come up with great ideas.

- Keyword/Niche Search Tools. The tried and true method is using keyword tools to find niches that should be profitable. Keep in mind that when you do a search on the search engines, such as Google, you are seeing the supply for that niche.

Tools such as Overture’s Keyword Selector Tool will provide you with the demand side. You want to find keyword phrases for your niche that have low supply and high demand. As an example, a search on Google for “auto part” shows about 1,350,000 sites that are listed for “auto part”. Overture’s Keyword Selector Tool shows that “auto part” was searched on about 1,001,985 times in the last month. This might be a good wide niche to start from because of the ratio of supply to demand. You want low supply and high demand.

You also want to see how hard it might be to duplicate the higher-ranking sites popularity. To assess this, check the sites PR rank, Alexa ranking and number of back links to the site.

Stop Wishing & Start Doing

Start Up No Comments

Do you wish you had more money, wish to win the lottery, wish for business success, wish for … insert dream here.

If you spend all your time wishing, you won’t realize the results you are seeking. To get success or to achieve the things you are looking for, you need to dig deeper.

In Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill says: “Wishing will not bring riches. But desiring riches with a state of mind that becomes an obsession, then planning definite ways and means to acquire riches, and backing those plans with persistence which does not recognize failure, will bring riches.”

This is a powerful statement. Read it again and think about what he is saying. How many people do we know wish for riches and success but do nothing to achieve it. That statement synthesizes all the elements you need to gain the riches you desire. Not only does it cover the desire (why), but putting the steps in place to get where you are heading.

It’s hard to get anywhere without a plan, and a plan is what will keep you moving toward that goal much more rapidly than some abstract wish.

I think this is the greatest and overlooked element of a home business … planning. So many people start out in business with a vague goal (which you can translated into a wish). This new business will get them to that goal … ie staying home with the kids or quitting a job. They have a vague idea of what they want but no plan to handle obstacles … and certainly not a plan that does not “recognize failure.”

What do I mean by that. Many people start in business assuming that if they do one thing, the money will start rolling in. And, unless it is some get rich quick scheme, it won’t work. At the first sign of disappointment or failure, they give up and their dreams gather dust on the shelf.

By building a plan that acknowledges there will be tough times and more importantly, has a plan to address it, has a greater chance of success. You need to address contingencies … how you will overcome challenges, and I would argue it includes a list of coaches and mentors you can call for help and support.

While we are all independent business people, we are not in business alone. Robert Kiyosaki says investing is a team sport. He’s right. You need a strong team around you to be able to succeed. You team should be made up of professionals but also mentors and coaches who can provide you with guidance and support as you grow … both personally and in business.

So, if you’re now ready, start writing. Put a plan on paper that outlines how you are going to build your business and what you are going to do and invest each and every day to get there. Write it down and refer back to it regularly to readjust or change elements in the plan to reflect current situation.

With this plan, success is not a wish, it can be a reality.

Why You Should Become a Home Business Entrepreneur

Start Up No Comments

Which are essential, and which ones can you take or leave? You be the judge. When you think about home business entrepreneur, what do you think of first?

If you are getting tired of running in the rat race, then consider becoming a home business entrepreneur. After all, as long as you cling to a job, then you can expect to be the recipient of all the wrong and unpleasant things that come with it. By starting your own home business, you will be making a giant step to achieving your goals, both financial and otherwise.

Here are two good reasons to become a home business entrepreneur:

Being your own boss. For the majority of people, this is reason enough to start your own business! If you are the type of person who chafes under authority, then you must seriously consider starting your own venture. Being your own boss is an incredible psychological reward for many, and it can inspire you to greater heights of productivity. Of course, it can also be a downside. Some people are not built to lead, but simply to follow. This type of person might be lost when no one is telling him what to do.

If you do not have a good amount of discipline, becoming your own boss might be a bad idea. You might be one of those people who need to be pushed to get anything done. When you become a home business owner, no one will be looking over your shoulder. You will have to stick to set your own schedules and make your own rules, and if it doesn’t work out, you will have no one to blame but yourself.

Those of you not familiar with the latest on home business now have at least a basic understanding. But there’s more to come.

Better rewards. When you first become a home business entrepreneur, you might feel like you’ve given up a fair portion of the rewards that you had when you held down a regular job. That’s true, you will be giving up some benefits. But you will be getting more than what you give up. By becoming self-employed, you are taking charge of your own financial future. No longer will you be tied down to the control of another human being. No longer will you have a ceiling on your salary. And no longer will you be forced to do things you really don’t want to do. In other words, your potential as an entrepreneur is virtually unlimited!

As a home business entrepreneur, you won’t be dependent on anyone else. As an employee, after all, you were probably paid less than what you were really worth. This will not be the case when you start your own home-based business. Instead of getting a limiting and limited paycheck, you will receive the full fruits of your labor, doubtless an advantage for the disciplined and creative individual. As long as you can bring something useful to the global marketplace, you can expect to get paid, in full.

Those who only know one or two facts about a home business can be confused by misleading information. The best way to help those who are misled is to gently correct them with the truths you’re learning here.

Work at Home On The Internet For Stay at Home Moms

Start Up No Comments

If you have young children at home you probably would much rather spend time with them during the day, than working a 9 to 5 day job. Or you may simply prefer to watch your kids as opposed to paying a daycare to do it. If this sounds like you, then being a stay at home mom is definitely the only way to go. However for most moms this is just not possible. Most moms need to work so they can contribute to the support of their families. But luckily, now day’s there is a very convenient way around this. More so now than ever before, moms are working at home on the internet so that they can care for their children, while contributing to their family’s income. This allows them to experience the best of both worlds.

If you want to be a stay at home mom that still works and contributes to the family’s income, there are basically two options available to you. First off, you can ask your current employer if you can start working from home, if the situation allows. This is a wonderful thing to do if you think that you can successfully complete your job duties from your home office. But the fact of the matter is that you may have a job that simply does not allow you to do this. Even if you do, your employer may not be too excited about the idea, unless he or she is sure about your abilities to work on your own and the situation permits. However there is no harm in asking. Simply tell your employer what your situation is, and ask them if there is anyway that you could perform your job duties from your home office.

For some people transitioning their office job or work duties to their home is entirely impossible. If you happen to be in this category, do not let your dream of being a stay at home working mom fade away. You still have other options which include starting your own home based business. Does this sound like too much work for you? To most moms the answer is yes, since the idea of running your own business can be so overwhelming. But the fact of the matter is that in many cases, you can start a home based business without much stress at all. In fact it is much easier than you think. So don’t let this major life style change scare you off. The moms that take action are probably the same moms that are living your dreams.

If you want to start your own home based business from your home office, you will need to do a lot of research. And I can not stress this enough. The best place to find information on a home based business is through research on the internet. These day’s the internet is loaded with information on just about any topic of choice. Another great reason for this, is that the majority of home based businesses have nearly everything in the world to do with the internet. By researching your options online, you will be able to come up with the some great ideas and information you will need, in order to get off to a successful start.

Being a stay at home mom and still being able to work is a definite possibility. Now days there are plenty of moms and dads working at home on the internet. There are thousands of moms all over the world that take advantage of this life style every day. You would even be surprised of the number of dads doing the same thing. One simple fact, other than all the time with your children, is simply the freedom you can gain. Why can’t you be the next success story? The only thing stopping you is you, right? There are many people that would rather blame something else. The facts are that we all have the power within us to do whatever we choose. If you think anything less, then you may be cheating yourself.

Look into the two options listed above so that you can stay home with your kids, and also make some money at the same time. You would be surprised at the amount of money you can make in just a few short hours each day from your online home based business. You also have to remember that an online home based business can make money for you 24Hrs. a day, 7 days a week. You will probably have to work more hours during the start up phase. But after your going, you will get more and more free time. This can be a great end result of your hard work for your family. You will love the life of a stay at home mom and I guarantee you will love the flexibility that a work at home internet business can provide!

Business Wisdom for a Young Company: Get Legal Counsel

Start Up No Comments

Every business needs the services of two very key professionals: an accountant and a lawyer. Most people have a clear understanding of why an accountant is vital: accountants provide an immediately visible service such as reviewing numbers, preparing statements, and arranging tax and payroll remittances.

But accountants aren’t the only professional you should have available when you are starting or running a company. Business attorneys provide an essential service that touches on almost every part of your business, from human resources, to bylaw compliance, to incorporation documents, to dealing with lawsuits and understanding liability.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind when seeking an effective lawyer. The first is that, like many professions, law is highly specialized and highly segmented. That means there will be many lawyers who are simply ill-suited to serving your business needs.

Instead, look for a lawyer who displays a very specific set of skills or area of expertise. These should include:

Your lawyer should know contracts. Every business is different, but there are a couple of core similarities. One is that contracts are a very common, and much needed, part of doing business. When looking for a lawyer, find one who has experience with your type of business. Doing so will ensure they understand your business quickly and be able to adequately prepare the standard form contracts you require when dealing with customers, clients and suppliers. In addition, your lawyer will help you respond to contracts that you plan to enter into with others.

Your lawyer can provide valuable insight into how to approach organizing your business. You will need a lawyer who can assist in the decision-making process on whether a sole-proprietorship, a corporation or a limited liability company is the best way to arrange your business. Once that decision is made, there is the necessary paperwork to complete

Your lawyer should have a solid understanding of real estate. Commercial space leases, whether for an offices or retail stores, can be highly complex. Plus, such leases are often designed to benefit the landlord, and because they tend to be “stock form” documents, many believe they are non-negotiable. That’s simply not the case. An attorney will know how to present a standard “tenant’s addendum,” which more closely aligns with you business needs and contains provisions that benefit you. A qualified lawyer will have these terms added to a printed form lease document.

Taxes and licenses are also highly technical and require specific knowledge. In spite of the fact that your accountant will draft and file your business tax returns, there are responsibilities which goes beyond that. A lawyer will know how to properly register your business for federal and local tax identification, and they will be aware of the tax consequences of the more basic business transactions in which your organization will engage.

Finally, your lawyer helps enforce and protect your intellectual property. Many companies, and particularly those engaged in a creative-media or design business, can make use of a lawyer to register products and services for copyright and trademark protection. However, such areas are fairly technical and often require the assistance of specialists who do focus on the area of “intellectual property”. A small business lawyer will likely refer specific inquiries of that nature to others who have a strong working knowledge of intellectual property.

All things considered, in spite of the potential cost of bring a lawyer into the fold, the advantages significantly outweigh the disadvantages. Lawyers can offer valuable insight that is often designed to protect you and your company, and working with a lawyer on a regular basis means they will have a clear understanding of how your business operates, and your overall priorities. Without a doubt, virtually all companies can benefit from working closely with a lawyer in all aspects of operating the business.

What’s Stopping You Starting Your Own Business?

Start Up No Comments

More people than ever before are looking to start their own business. Having your own business is generally accepted as the only way of making yourself a fortune, unless you marry or inherit money. Unfortunately many people are held back by two factors:

A) the employee mentality, and

B) most people have not developed their ability to generate business ideas.

Let us deal with each one in turn.

A) There are many reasons why an employee should want to start a business but three are worth thinking about.

i) The difference between having your own business and having a job is the difference between buying a house and renting a house. If you rent a house you have all the satisfaction of living in a house, but at the end of the day you own nothing and can be evicted as quickly as you became a tenant. A job is just like a renting a house. However, your own business depends on you, because you are its owner, and at the end of the day it may leave you with considerable personal wealth.

ii) You are a unique person. The vast majority of employers do not recognise your uniqueness. It is said the universe is twenty billion years old and will last at least as long again. In all the time to come there will never be another person just like you. You are a unique creation. How does an employer treat a unique creation like you? They make you fit into a box where the walls are your job description. Many people before you had to fit into the same box and many people after you will have to do the same. You were not created to spend your life following orders, doing repetitive tasks and being just like other people. Your own business offers you the opportunity to make unique achievements, to build a unique business, which mirrors your personality, and to stamp the world with your mark.

iii) If you do not want to start a business to create personal wealth or to satisfy your ego then start a business to help other people. Every time a person offers others a new product or service, he or she increases their freedom of choice. There is not a better way to help other people than by giving them more freedom. With the extra freedom, the jobs created and extra taxes paid, it could be argued that founding a successful business is the most socially useful thing anyone can do. Instead of choosing between i), ii) or iii) as a reason for starting a business, all three become interlocked and are a consequence of a successful business.

B) Most people unfamiliar with starting a business struggle to generate business ideas. Probably the best advice anyone can offer you if you are trying to decide what type of business to start, is to go with what you know and love. If your business is a chore and not your passion it will be little better than a job. But if you love what you do, ideas come easily and problems find solutions much more readily. What the successful business start-up does is effectively combine a personal passion with a ‘want’ shared by many.

If you are still hesitating just think on this: the only difference between you and a successful entrepreneur is that they took a risk and, above all, took action. Action is the key to success. Without action, your idea will never be anything more than an electrical impulse locked away in your brain.

The Newbie’s Guide To Starting A Business On The Internet

Start Up No Comments

In anything isn’t there always a starting point? I know that most people would love to zoom straight to guru or expert status make a fortune and bypass all of the initial steps and prerequisites necessary to starting a credible internet business. Fortunately it doesn’t work that way.

Doesn’t a baby crawl before it walks? Walks before it runs? If you are new to the internet, you have to begin with the basics and invest time in those initial steps to build a solid foundation. This will ensure long term success.

The first step in establishing a credible Internet business is creating a business plan. A business plan supplies you with a blueprint of succeeding in your internet business. The plan provides you with the direction of your company and is a guidepost for your employees too that’s if you plan on having employees.

The primary job of a business owner is to manage and run a business. The term manage implies the task of planning and execution. The process of business planning helps reduce risks. Entrepreneurship is often the ability to build a business by taking calculated risks.

If you are putting your life savings on the line, endangering your family’s stability and borrowing other people’s money, it is your responsibility as a business owner to not take risks but only calculated risk. The business planning process does not guarantee success but surely decreases the odds of failure.

Step number two. Decide on a winning name for your business.

A business name doesn’t have to be short but it should be snappy. You want a name that’s memorable and is going to encapsulate what your business does for marketing purposes. You need a business name that’s easy for your customers to remember and good for business promotion too. This formula should also be used when creating a domain name for your online identity.

Step number three. Develop a strategic plan

Developing a strategic plan is an essential part of your success. Not only will it assist you in visualizing your strategy, but it will also give you an organized approach to achieving your goals. Without a solid plan of action, you won’t have any direction. You’ll travel in circles and never reach your goals.

Strategic planning consists of you establishing the objectives of your internet business. Your objectives will consist of a description of the products or services you will be promoting to the online marketplace as well as an overall marketing plan.

Your marketing plan should consist of the following:

Identifying your target market. If the product or service doesn’t have a market, you definitely won’t be successful. You must identify who your customers will be to determine whether or not there will be an interest in what you’re offering.

How do you plan to advertise? Although setting up a web site is an essential part of your advertising plan, it is only the first step. You must develop an advertising plan that will drive a continuous stream of targeted traffic to your web site. Developing a strategic plan will provide you with a road map to achieving your dreams. Plan each step very carefully and fully research your options. Plan your work then work your plan and you’ll be well on your way to achieving your goals.

Two Words that Separate the Online Winners From the Quitters

Start Up No Comments

I’ve just about heard it all when it comes to people’s opinions on how to succeed at starting a business, weather online or offline. Everything from, “you absolutely have to have a business plan” to “failure is imminent without my new software”. Although a business plan is very important and I use some very valuable software applications to grow my business, there is one aspect of success that seems to be very hard for many people to overcome.

Let me start by tell a story about when I first started in internet marketing. Before I began selling anything I hired someone to coach me. To be honest he didn’t have any really revolutionary ideas, pretty much the same as the other guru’s but he was honest with me when I needed to hear the truth. I followed his instructions on researching niches. Once he wrote me with a suggestion that he thought would make it easier for me but I responded saying but I thought what he was suggesting was nearly impossible. I emailed back and told him, “I can’t do that, it’s too hard”. His response was paramount to my success. It changed everything for me. He replied saying, “John, if you think you can’t then you’re probably right”.

I knew exactly what he was saying, my own thoughts about what I thought I could and could not do were holding me back. I decided that very day that I could in fact do what he suggested to find a profitable niche. Not only did I find a very profitable niche, I found 10 profitable niches. I quickly started my first internet business selling a hard good product and it turned out to be a total success. This rest as they say is history.

So I encourage you to ask yourself, what could you do if you removed “I can’t” from your vocabulary and weren’t hindered by what you think are your abilities. I knew nothing about the niche I started in and even so it took off like gangbusters. I learned about my product as I went along. I didn’t know how to build a website but I learned. My success had nothing to do with starting capital because I started with less than $300.

Your success at any business venture has very little to do with talent, money you have to invest, knowledge or the product and a whole host of other excuses that people come up with about why they can’t start an internet business. You success does have everything to do with your determination to succeed and perseverance when challenges come your way. I’m not saying to throw money down the toilet because you don’t want to give up, please use common sense. I am saying, if after a few days, weeks or months and you haven’t made any money, don’t decide that online marketing isn’t for you. Move on to find another niche. There are millions of hungry buyers in thousands of niches waiting to buy. Keep plugging away until you find a need to meet in that niche and fill that need. It will only take a few months to get to know your market.

Every single month, there are literally millions of people searching for information on how to make money on the internet, yet less than 3% of those people ever actually make any money. The difference between those that succeed and those that do not is that the ones who make money don’t back down when faced with the same challenges that all online marketers face. It comes down to this, you have to delete the phrase, “I can’t” from your vocabulary. Don’t be one of the 97% that give up right before you strike gold.

Your First Residual Income Business Opportunity

Start Up No Comments

The ideal online, inter net home based business for yourself is truly hard to find. This is because high costs, high fraud, poor set up and maintenance assistance when you are starting and progressing is hard to get.

The sales page and emails from the sales people are all peaches, cream and hype when you are thinking of buying into a new program or system. But, like a man or woman who picks a bad marital partner, guess what happens after you start with them?

Correct! The evil light switch comes on. They say that you should be able to figure all this out yourself.

They are mean, rude, suddenly inaccessible and even curse you for asking for help. Your refund time expires and you are out of your original investment.

A very high percentage of successful inter net marketers started out this way. They failed many times, losing lots of money, before they made their first penny from a residual income business opportunity. The honest ones will tell you this truth. Some do.

I do not say this to be negative but to give you the right options to look for to help you increase your odds, dramatically, to make a profit in your first cash flow venture. Less than one out of ten of us succeed at our first online entrepreneur venture.

Is there any way to protect yourself, at least partially, then? Yes. Pick a low priced work at home program, to limit your losses, at first.

Many of the good home business programs require you to know a bunch of basics already and you will lose in spite of them being genuine quality opportunities.

Make your mistakes with a cheap opportunity to limit your losses. Check out different ventures for a full year before you put a penny into the first one. You will have far more insight and knowledge this way and will make less mistakes.

Whenever you click on the inter net or turn on the Saturday or Sunday morning or late night infomercials, on television, you will be bombarded with offers. Choosing a business to start is easy. Choosing a good one is difficult without knowing the good points to look for.

Picking a good one to start is an important part of getting started. You need to pick one that, at least partially, interests you.

One to give you the persistence and drive to see and work it through to a profitable success. It must be well organized and set up so you can learn and teach it to duplicate yourself.

Next, you want to establish a good mentor who complements your talents. Building a team, even if you just work with one other person, is essential to building your residual income from home.

Your team must work hard, smart and earn a profit. Team choices are critical to your success. Friends and relatives you like, without talent, are wasting your money and time.

Unless you know your team member, interview as many possible candidates as you can and let them know you are serious in your business. Explain the idea you have of your income desired business, on a residual basis.

Be sure they are serious and carefully pick the best candidate. Be sure they are going to make a good effort and this will improve your odds of personal success.

Finally, to be sure your first residual income business opportunity is on the right track, think about the whole business plan. Sometimes you will get discouraged because it takes twelve to eighteen months to really get going and earning a profit.

Keep your goals and whole business plan before you and the little things, that are trips along the way, will not bog you down because your eyes and heart are on the long term. Starting is slow.

Knowing this point, will have you prepared to face the daily onslaught of screwy problems that will pop up and keep you from quitting. So you, daily, want to focus on your goals and keep them in mind.

Your first residual income program will be more likely to succeed if you take it seriously, stay calm, and stay focused on your main goal. A conscientious start will help you to avoid many pitfalls and make your beginning enterprise successful.

A Responsible Approach to Online Marketing

Start Up No Comments

When a person comes online, they are generally looking for information and resources. Many people are searching for a way to make money online and therein lies the setup for an unhealthy partnering of newbie and Internet savvy scam artist.

Everyone that has been online for a while and has set up a business needs to market that business to pay their bills and to grow their business. However, the Internet seems to be in need of growing a “conscience” when it comes to the ebooks, the software, and the tools that are offered to new people and those that are still searching for a method to better their life. Whether retail marketing or sponsorship program, each requires a lot of the person’s time and resources to market to the new client.

Every day there are emails offering the newest marketing blitz, the most cherished system that a person cannot live without, the only method to making thousands of dollars as evidenced by the checks the marketer has received. Granted, there are disclaimers, but it is like saying something in a courtroom. Once the word is out, it is highly unlikely that the jury is going to forget what was mentioned. The same goes for claims to wealth.

Receiving an email with a product that seems legitimate and is followed with a heart-felt sales offer will encourage many people to continue and become a representative. The story behind how the marketer got to his position, how he felt during the start-up phase, and how he managed to obtain the goals set is much more interesting than how much he received in his last check. There has never been anyone that could spend that marketer’s check but himself, so there seems to be no real reason to be showing checks in a sales solicitation.

After a person becomes a representative or purchases a product from a marketer, that marketer has a responsibility to help or lead the new person to obtain their goals. To keep retail sales from being cancelled, a follow up email on how to use the product or some of the benefits not mentioned previously or some general knowledge of how the product has helped others will be most welcomed. The follow up lets the new representative know that the marketer has his best interests at heart and that he is not just another notch in his sponsor’s printout sheet. Knowing there is a caring person behind a great product or program is more than enough motivation to a new person. This can be an inspiration to them to do well and to continue to try knowing that they have someone in their corner should a problem or questions come up.

Many marketers send out multiple solicitations to join their respective companies and, honestly, just wait to see who takes the bait and runs with it. That is one method of marketing, but it seriously lacks a sponsor’s responsibility. A marketer should help a new person as much as that person wants to work.

Giving ideas, helping them through hard and easy times, and sharing methods that seem to be working and letting the everyone takes what they need and leave the rest seems to be a responsible attitude. Everyone is different and new people have fear of failure on their mind and so trying to make everyone fit one mold is not a workable method. What works for one may not work for another, but it is helpful to the new person to know what the options are and to count on their representative to guide them.

To sum it up, if you are working programs or products that require sponsoring, then make sure that you retail products and that you spend time with those you bring into the program.

To do anything other than guide and share with those that you sponsor is irresponsible marketing and should be abandoned.

Online marketing can be a great source of friendship and business profits that last a lifetime if promoted properly. Do your part to make the Internet a more responsible and caring place.

10 Steps to Mentally Getting Started in Your Home Business

Start Up No Comments

Starting a home business is exciting and yet fears can pop up when starting anything new. Once you’ve made the decision to take control of your future, ask yourself these questions to mentally prepare to play the game to win.

1. What do you want to accomplish?
Do you want to earn a little extra money or a six-figure income? And by when? As the saying goes, you need to know where you’re going if you’re ever going to get there.

2. Do you have your goals written out?
I know we hear this all the time, but there is something very powerful about writing out our goals and having this on paper. It keeps us focused and on track.

3. Who is your target market?
“Everyone” is not a target market. Even if most people could use your product or service, narrowing who you want to reach allows you to be more effective in your advertising messages and actions.

4. How are you going to reach your market?
Through article writing, through ezine advertising, promoting through local groups or events, offline advertising? There are dozens of ways to market your business and many will take testing to determine the best avenue for you, but have a plan on how you want to get started. Then revise as you go.

5. What is your advertising budget?
If you’re starting out on a shoestring, just know that it will take more word-of-mouth or creative ways to get your product or service in front of people. And if you have some funds for advertising, plan out how and where you can get the best value for your dollar.

6. How much time can you commit to your business each week?
Most of us have busy lives and it’s important to block out specific times to work on our business if it’s going to thrive. Remember, to be successful, you can work a home business part-time, but you can’t work it in your spare time. Spare time never happens.

7. What are the most important activities that you can do to generate revenue? Focus on what will get you customers, other distributors or people on your mailing list. Don’t get side-tracked with excessive organizing or revising your plan for the 20th time. Determine what will get you results and go for it!

8. Do you have a mentor?
If you’re already lost on some of these steps, partner with someone in your business that is experienced and already successful. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and then follow what has proven to be successful.

9. What are you most afraid of?
Acknowledge your fears. Talk to your mentor about them. If you need more information to feel more professional, get that info, but don’t get stuck in the “student” mode. Learn the basics and then jump in. The unknown can be scary and not everyone is going to be your next customer or distributor, but the best way to conquer any fear is to walk right through it.

10. Do you expect to win?
That may seem like a strange question, but are you really expecting success or are you just “hoping” to make it? Building a home business will help you grow personally in innumerable ways, if you’re determined to succeed. If you’re coachable and willing to work on yourself, you’re embarking on a wonderful journey.

Taking a little time to answer these questions will start the creation of your initial plan. Then work with your mentor and have fun! Learn and modify as you go. Consistent, daily actions (whether big or small) will result in a strong, viable business for yourself and your loved ones.

In closing, here’s a quote from Dr. Robert Anthony. “Waiting is a trap. There will always be reasons to wait. The truth is, there are only two things in life, reasons and results, and reasons simply don’t count.” Create results!

7 Top Tips for Starting Your Own Home Based Business

Start Up No Comments

So, you’ve decided to start a home based business. Congratulations! and welcome to the fast-paced world of entrepreneurship. While there is a lot to learn, your effort will be worth it. The thrill of growing your business, the freedom and flexibility to set your own hours, and the possibilities of ever-increasing financial rewards are all wonderful reasons to start your home based business.

Now that you’ve decided to start your business, you might be wondering “How can I get it off to the strongest possible start?” These seven tips will help:

1) Set up a separate working space in your home. It doesn’t matter if this is a small bedroom, one part of the garage, or a corner of the living room. The important thing is to have some space that you can designate as your working area. This will give you the space and room you need to craft your dream.

2) Stock your working space with materials. This sounds basic, perhaps, but one underlying element of success is that you have easy access to the tools, materials, and other resources you need. Gathering everything close by also keeps you from wasting time searching for it, so this step can be considered a time management strategy, too.

3) Speaking of time management, your third step is to define the parameters of your business. What days and hours will you work? When will you market? When will you provide services or products to clients? How will you keep all of this straight?

4) Balance action with planning. One of the most common pitfalls to successful entrepreneurship is getting too caught up in action without enough planning. Stated another way, this means that you confuse “being busy” with “working on important projects.” The best approach is to plan your next couple of goals and then work backwards to create step by step action plans to reach them. Once you have the plan, then it’s time to take the action.

5) Network like crazy. One of the fastest ways to grow any business is to make connections with other people. Be sure to share your passion and enthusiasm with others at every opportunity. Let people know who you are and what you offer. Remember, people can’t buy if they don’t know you’re selling.

6) Present a professional image. If you want to be treated professionally, present a professional image. Set up a separate bank account for your business. Install a separate phone and fax line. Create professional marketing materials. Be courteous and pleasant in all your customer facing interactions. Basically, be someone people want to do business with.

7) Automate your business as much as possible. Granted, you are just one person (right now) and might have a lot of extra time to take care of all the details. This might work for now, but won’t work into the future as you get busier and busier. It’s best to set up automatic systems and processes right from the start to free up your time to concentrate on the most profitable activities.

These seven tips will get your home business started (and growing) in the right direction

Starting A Home Internet Business - The Basics 10

Start Up No Comments

Starting a home Internet business has never been easier. You can get all the tools you need at the press of a button - on the Internet of course. As for any business, you need to draw up an action plan first - whereby you list all the steps involved one by one and then proceed in a systematic manner.

1. Point 1 - Design your website: The first step in starting a home Internet business is to design a website. There are tools today where you can do that for yourself, and if you’re your business is just an experiment or hobby promotion, then you do just that. However, if you are serious about it then you need to hire a professional who should map your site properly as to have a correct flow and purpose in its design. This is serious business and should be treated with total dedication to quality.
2. Point 2 - Find an appropriate domain name: For starting a home Internet business you need to have a name for your website - the best being as closely related to your business or what it has to offer.
3. Point 3 - Choosing a web host: A good “make or break” element when starting a home internet business is selecting the proper web host. For best results you should ensure you make the right choices with regard to whether you need a virtual or dedicated server, how up-gradable if the server of your web host, the bandwidth provided and whether it can give you a control panel.
4. Point 4 - Pay attention to the legal issues: When starting a home internet business you should pay adequate importance to all the legal aspects regarding registration, licensing, etc so you will not run into any legal trouble from the very beginning of your maiden venture.
5. Point 5 - Secure payment facility: As for any business, starting a home internet business needs to have a good way to receive payments. The customers should not be interrupted or timed out while making payment transactions. Nothing is more annoying, or pushing them away than a bad payment schedule.
6. Point 6 - Have good promotional strategy: Starting a home Internet business is completely driven by the amount and quality of the promotion you do for it. The better the promos the better and the more traffic you will attract. The more business you are likely to do.
7. Point 7 - Ensure good SEO ratings: The visibility of your home based business is very much dependent on its ranking on the net. A good SEO rating will be one of the best promotion tool for your business.
8. Point 8 - Design a good marketing strategy: Without a good marketing strategy no business can actually exist. More so with the Internet where the customer cannot find about your business unless he see and hears about it.
9. Point 9 - Create your own opt-in lists: Starting a home Internet business will be easier for you when you have a list of customers where you could direct your sales. Make sure your marketing strategy has tools for capturing your own opt-in lists.
10. Point 10 - ‘Convert your visitors’ tools: Starting a home Internet business will be successful if you have good visitor-converting-tools where a surfer comes as a visitor and leaves as a customer.

How To Make Money As A Personal Shopper

Start Up No Comments

When it comes to getting shopping and other errands done, most people would like to ask someone else to do it. They don’t want to take the time to fight traffic and search through stores for a particular item. And with that need, you can make money as a personal shopper.

Personal shoppers aren’t just for the rich and famous anymore. With less and less time to spare, more business professionals are turning to personal shoppers as a way to maximize their days and get a little time to spare to spend with their families. And it’s easy to make money from this lucrative business.

A personal shopper goes out for the client and buys anything that they might need. They make money by charging the client for the time that they spend looking for the item as well as transporting it back to the client. Shopping can range from clothing to furniture, food to toiletries. You might find yourself shopping for an elderly gentleman that doesn’t feel safe leaving his home or for the stock broker that doesn’t have time to choose a new suit for her upcoming business trip.

What you need

Personal shoppers have the smallest initial investment of all of the various ways to make money. All they need is a phone to be reached and a car to travel in. And while you will need to keep up the maintenance on that car as well as pay for gas, these expenses are easily covered by the money that you will make in this business.

You might want to start your personal shopping business by advertising in various business magazines or in the business section of the local paper. Try to figure out who might need your services in order to make money from that select group.

You will also want to learn about all of the local stores in town as well as when sales and other clearances are happening. To make money, you’ll need to know exactly where you can find a particular item so that you don’t spend all of your time looking for something. Learn the best value stores as well as the easiest routes to drive when you’re out shopping.

All you will need is a PDA or some other listing system that will allow you to keep track of what you bought and how long it took you to shop for. In order to make money, you can charge by the hour or a by a percentage of the item’s total cost.

Growing over time

As you get to know the stores in the area as well as your clients, you can make even more money by choosing gifts that they might need for special occasions. You can hold onto their birthday or holiday shopping lists and find things to purchases throughout the year. As you and your client get to know each other, you will learn about their tastes and what they want you to buy.

Your client base will increase as you continue to provide the best service to your current clients and get positive referrals. Don’t be afraid to make money personal shopping for simple items too. The weekly trip to the grocery story might be more than a single mom can handle with going to school and working at a job.

Try to think about ways that you can lighten someone’s burden and you’ll make money being a personal shopper. It’s not about shopping necessarily; it’s about creating that free time and one less thing for your client to do.

How To Make Money With Self Publishing

Start Up No Comments

If you have always thought about writing for a living or have written things that you think people would like, why wait for publishers to notice your queries and your submissions? You can make money by turning to self publishing as a business and reap the rewards of your work being sold to and read by your customers.

You can simply set up a web site that advertises all of the books and publications that you are selling. It doesn’t have to be overly complicated, but it should present your publications in a clear and enticing manner. You want to grab your potential reader’s attention with snippets of the books so that they want to buy them. And by buying them, you can make money without any work.

What you need

To begin a self publishing business to make money, you need to have title to sell. And there are two ways to go about creating your stock of books. You can either write the books yourself, researching popular titles and themes to write about, or you can have a freelance writer do this for you.

You can go to several different writing sites to search for a freelance writer that will write a book that will make money for your business. And true, you will have to pay the writer for their efforts; it can save you time down the road because you aren’t spending your days writing. Leave the work to someone else. Or ask for submission for your site, giving a small profit to the original author, but keeping a percentage for your self.

Next, you will need to set up a web site that is crafted to make money for your books. This will include the titles as well as summaries of the books that you are offering. You will also want to include ways for customers to purchase your books from this web site. You may want to hire a web page designer at this stage in order to be sure that your customers will enjoy the presentation as well as be able to make purchases safely. Again, this step too may cost money, but in the end, a well-designed web site pays for itself.

Because your web site will be able to take orders without your input, you can make money while you’re sleeping or when you’re away. Some business owners also like to create fax machine orders for customers that aren’t comfortable with Internet ordering.

Growing over time

The best way to continue to make money with a self publishing business is to continuously add titles to your web site. This means that as you learn what your customers are buying, you want to put more of the same kinds of books on your site. You may even want to create a suggestion feature so that you can learn what kinds of books people are shopping for so that you can meet that demand.

Another way to increase profits and make money is to offer a downloadable version of each of the books that are for sale. This allows your customers to print out or save the books if they choose, rather than having the need to print and ship them to the customers. And it’s faster for the customer as well because they can get their book as soon as their payment clears.

With self publishing, you can see your words in print and make money for your hard work. And with the low start up cost and wide market, self publishing is becoming one of the most popular ways to make money with your computer.

How To Make Money In Computer Repair

Start Up No Comments

Every home seems to have a computer or computer-related product these days, so the idea that you can make money as a computer repair technician isn’t so far-fetched. Computer repair is a necessary service that many homes actually take for granted.

When you have a computer problem, you want it fixed right away, but it might not happen during a time when the help desk is open, or you might not have time to wait on hold for someone to answer. You can make money by offering home services or over the phone services at a lower rate than the traditional computer repair centers and also with that personal touch.

What you need

In order to make money as a computer repair specialist, you may need more equipment than the average home business. You might want to have spyware killers as well as virus programs that can debug a computer in a short amount of time.

You might also want to learn about all the different kinds of programs and platforms that a computer issue might be occurring in. And this might mean that before you make money, you need to spend some money on research or even classes about computer repair.

Most simple problems can be worked out without special equipment when you know a few basics things about computers, but the more complicated ones will certainly make money for you because of the labor involved.

You will want to have some sort of uniform that will distinguish you as a professional as well as some indicator of your services on your car so that you can advertise as you’re at someone’s home to make money.

You might also want to purchase some simple tools that can take apart a hard drive if that’s necessary. But when you’re looking to make money, it’s not a huge expense.

Before you can begin, you’ll want to create a ‘menu’ of the things that you can repair as well as a way to contact you with issues customers aren’t sure about. A cellular phone might be handy to make sure that you can always be reached, day or night to make money and solve someone’s computer crisis.

Place ads and business cards in areas that might see a lot of computer users. This might mean that the community board at the local college or library is the perfect place to advertise to make money for your business. Create a simple card with ways to contact you and you’re ready to go.

Growing over time

As you fix more problems, you’ll be able to make money on more issues. Experience is the best guide in many instances in order to create a more lucrative and diverse business for you. Start with smaller problems and don’t charge a lot to fix them. You want to gain customer trust first and then start charging more for things that might take more time.

One of the best ways to keep your business on the road to make money is to make sure that you are able to help within a certain time frame and to guarantee that you can. For example, you might want to say that you will be able to help them in some way within 24 hours and then stick with that promise.

Find something that makes you different from the others that want to make money. Maybe you go to the client’s house or you can help over the phone with smaller problems. Whatever you can do to set yourself apart-do it. Your customers and your bank account will certainly thank you.

How to Avoid The Pitfalls of a Small Business Start-up?

Start Up No Comments

Starting a new venture or trying to realise an ambition of a life time is very exciting and spiritually uplifting experience. But, make no mistake this is one journey where you will uncover shocking surprises if you decide to travel on this journey. However, it is not all doom and gloom you can adopt some simple strategies to minimise your risk. Below is a list of potential pitfalls and how they can be side-stepped:-

1)Start with the market and not the product.

Find out what people want in the market place and then sell them exactly what they want. In other words, conduct a survey and see if there is any demand for your chosen product before developing the product. Some people advocate finding out what people are buying by visiting internet and examining products that are being searched for. There is merit in this strategy but it is only relevant if your market is world wide otherwise the internet data will distort your analytical results.

2)Controlling your marketing spend.

Marketing is the key to creating awareness and thereby market penetration. However, it is quite easy to spend all of your marketing budget and not generate any sales. Test the water with your advertising campaigns. Run a few advertisements and check to see if they generate any sales.

Write your advertisement yourself and talk about all aspect of your business or service and service delivery. Make an offer that customers will find irresistible, give them an incentive to test your product or service, back your offer with a no quibble money back guarantee.

3)Don’t wear too many hates yourself.

It is very easy to think that you have to do everything yourself. There are two possible consequences of an attitude whereby you think that you can do everything yourself; you prevent your business from developing simply because you are doing too much and more importantly you will lose focus and sight of where you want to go.

4)Set a sensible pricing structure for your products and services.

Set your prices that are competitive as well as profitable. New entrants in the small business sector tend to undercut their competitors and by so doing don’t make any profit. Consider this scenario; wedding quote for 100 people, lunch and evening buffet, silver service, champagne and wine with bride and groom’s own labels on them. It is easy to quote a price of $50 per head because that sounds within the ball park. However, upon working out all the costs we came back with a per head price of $70 per head. Moral of this story being that working out prices before preparing quotation is a good idea and we advise people to conduct this exercise every time.

5)Use technology to create awareness.

Internet is the best vehicle to tell your potential and actual customers about you, your products and your service. However, you need to line up what you do with the way you present your information on your internet site. Make sure that you design your internet site yourself and by that I mean replicating what you do and how you do it pretty much exactly how you do it. Otherwise, you may harm your business because you may not get noticed.

6)Set goals; both end goal and the intermediate ones.

You need to decide where you want to be in two years’ time. By setting that target goal, you will then set a road map for your business to go for. The road map will consist of intermediate goals along the way which you can use as testing tools to gauge your progress and fine tune your strategy as and when the need arises.

7)Take action.

According to the motivational GURU Anthony Robinson you’ve got to take action. Take massive action he says. Having a good and well researched idea is not enough, you have to implement that idea otherwise all the effort to date amounts to very little. Just do it.

Finally, about 90% of the business success can be attributed to good management team, well researched market, a good and feature rich quality product as well as good financial backing to say the least. The remaining 10% of the business success is to do with luck, risk taking and even being in the right place at the right time. Be thorough in your research, understand your market and your product, follow the above 7 steps and you will have avoided the dreaded pitfalls.

Sometimes Survival is Victory

Start Up No Comments

I recently hit my first big wall since I got serious about developing my web business last March. My day job took over my life again. If you’re in high tech or know somebody who is, you’ll understand. I’m a senior software engineer and a dev lead, hence I really have to set an example and try to do superlative work, or as close to it as I can manage.

As you might imagine, progress on my online marketing business stalled quite a bit. This is incredibly frustrating in many respects, but I want to encourage you, gentle readers, as well as myself. In particular, there are a few lessons to learn from a season such as this.

1. Be patient.

Patience is a virtue for many reasons, not the least of which is that it is a prerequisite for perseverance. When we are impatient, we get frustrated and start thinking negatively. It doesn’t take long to begin to believe that a temporary pause in our business building progress is instead a permanent stoppage. It is not permanent if we don’t let it become permanent.

Thomas Edison said that, “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”

You may be closer to your goal than you would ever guess. I’ve heard Gary Halbert quoted as having said, “You’re just one sales letter away from success.”

2. Be kind to yourself.

This is important. Pat yourself on the back for what you did manage to accomplish, even if you just survived. Because I didn’t accomplish what I hoped, I felt like the entire month of May was a loss. But I finally forced myself to really think through all that happened: I weathered some incredible family difficulties, got our house ready to sell, did solid work on my day job, debugged a new service I’m offering for free to build my e-mail list (CB Product Alert), and still sent out a short newsletter.

It wasn’t like I was a bump on a log, and the chances are when you’re most discouraged, it is partly because you’re just plain tired. Get a good night’s sleep and start fresh tomorrow. But don’t give up!

Oh, I did one more thing this month: I survived.

Did you know that survival counts for something? It may seem obvious, but the simple and yet profound fact remains that nobody ever became successful at something by quitting. Perseverance is a requirement for traveling the road to success.

That does not mean that we don’t analyze our activities and blindly continue fruitless efforts. On the contrary, I’m focusing even more on working as smart as possible. But I will not be stopped by a bad month.

Here’s one last little gem: Did you know that, all things being equal, search engines reward older web sites with slightly higher ranking? That being the case, the mere act of surviving means next month will probably be a little bit better, and the one after that better still.

I can hardly wait.

Bouncy Castle Business - Tips On Setting Up

Start Up No Comments

Do your research: as with all prospective business ventures, thorough research of the bouncy castle market in your area is essential. Look through the local newspapers, go on the internet, look in the Yellow Pages and find out how much competition there is in your area. If you spot some competition, don’t be put off, for the fact that there are people running successful bouncy castle businesses proves that there is money to be made, and more than likely, there is still room for you to take your share of it.

Equipment/items that you will need for your bouncy castle business:

- Bouncy Castle (see below for sizing advice)
- Repair kit (should be included in price of the castle
- Ground sheet
- Safety mat (for the front of the castle
- Rain cover
- Sack trolley
- Anchor stakes
- 25-30 meter electrical extension cable
- RCD safety cut out circuit breaker
- Safety instruction sheet
- Terms of business
- Customer disclaimer form
- Local street maps
- Desk diary or personal computer program (to keep note of bookings
- Ledger book (for recording receipts and payments
- Public Liability Insurance cover (rec. minimum one million pounds

How to start out: my firm advice is that you start out with a 12 ft. x 12 ft. (3.6 meter x 3.6 meter) bouncy castle, this being the most popular with customers. Moreover, it is easy to set up and store and will fit in most back gardens and community halls. However, you might be tempted to go for something smaller, say a 7 ft. x 7 ft. bouncy castle - it would keep costs down, wouldn’t it? This is a common mistake - don’t fall into this trap. You may think that you can’t afford a bigger bouncy castle when you start up, but you’ll be kicking yourself if you are unable to do business with people who want a bigger castle - as the vast majority will. A small bouncy castle will still make money, but not as much as the bigger one suggested, and just imagine how you’ll feel at seeing business go elsewhere because you have set up your bouncy castle business with the wrong equipment.

Where to buy your bouncy castle: see the list of manufacturers at the British Inflatable Hirers Association website. There are a number of good companies that supply bouncy castles, so take your time in choosing. All the good companies will have brochures, so just give them a call and get them to send you one in the post, together with a price list. Many companies will be willing to enter into credit terms, and will even paint your trading name and telephone number on the front of the castle at no extra cost. Your successful marketing of your business starts right from the moment that you make the order for your first castle and put your name up on it. The manufacturer should offer to do this for you - but ask for it if they don’t. You will get many bookings from people who see your phone number on the castle. Your bouncy castles will be big and brightly colored, so take full advantage of your portable advertising billboard. The industry standard guarantee for a bouncy castle is 1-2 years, depending on the manufacturer.

What about buying a second hand bouncy castle? The trouble with doing this is that - as a beginner - you don’t know what to look out for. I can tell you to look at the stitching on the bed, and at the pillars and where the side walls meet the bed, but are you confident that you will know the signs of wearing if you see them? Many second hand bouncy castles on the market are overly worn, have re-stitched bed seams, deliver a poor bounce and have to be replaced within a short while. When you are just starting out you need to be sure that you are hiring out a quality product that will last through the delicate ’start up’ period, so go for a new bouncy castle when you start up.

Balloon Ride Business - Tips On Making It A Success

Start Up No Comments

In this article I’ll be giving you some tips for making your balloon ride business a success.

Before we get into details, I need to stress one thing: whether your balloon ride business is a success will come down to one thing, your skills as a business person. This is something that you must fix in your mind. You may love flying, be an experienced pilot starting out in business for the first time, but your love of flying will not give you success, or even put you very far along the road to that success.

All the successful balloon ride operators I have spoken with said that their success had little to do with their love of flying balloons. Rather, it came down to careful planning, researching markets, making contacts, strategic marketing and organising publicity. You need a commitment to see your business succeed aside from any love you may have of flying. Successful balloon ride operators are business people who run businesses they enjoy, rather people doing something they enjoy which also makes them money. For certain, it is possible to make substantial profits from a balloon ride business. However, all businesses are vulnerable to failure if badly managed.

Do your research as to how much you should be charging for a balloon ride in your chosen location. Much will depend upon your expenses and market demand.

How you market your balloon ride and the contacts you make will be crucial. You’ll need a steady flow of customers for your balloon ride, so make contact with agents and tour companies, local hotels and tourist offices. Consider how you can tap into the corporate client market where the prices you can charge may be higher. Get some business cards and some publicity materials made up, and give consideration to advertising and a properly search engine optimized website.

Try to build up contacts in the business and speak to people who have made a success of their balloon ride business. Run your ideas past these people, since they will have been there before and can give you so much valuable advice based on experience. You need to learn from their mistakes before you make them, and having friends in the business will be invaluable.

Give very serious consideration to seeking advertising sponsorship for your balloon ride. Your ‘envelope’ will be a huge canvass - seen for miles - so think about who might like to rent this ad space and for how much money.

Advantages Of Incorporating In Delaware

Start Up No Comments

The government treats corporations as separate entities that can buy, sell and lease properties, enter into contracts, sue and be sued. Specifically, there are many advantages of incorporating in Delaware. People form corporations to enjoy the benefits that incorporating offers, such as, limited liability protection. Their personal assets are safe and the shareholders are not responsible for debts incurred by the corporation. Incorporation establishes and increases the credibility of their company. There are excellent tax benefits that lure people to form corporations. Small businesses incorporate to build their business credit profile and grow. Some industry giants had humble beginnings as small businesses that evolved into giants after incorporation. Delaware has gained the reputation of being a corporate haven and correspondingly a number of corporations have chosen to operate from Delaware. People choose Delaware for various reasons.

Why Incorporate In Delaware?
1. The state’s corporate law structure favors corporations.

2. Delaware has an experienced and well-established legal system regarding corporate law. The legal system has been credited with giving greater guidance regarding corporate governance. Corporate disputes are filed in the Delaware Court of Chancery, which is an equity court and chancellors hear the cases. Litigants may appeal to the Delaware Supreme Court. These chancellors are appointed by merit, based on their experience and knowledge of corporate law.

3. The cost of incorporation is low in Delaware. The initial cost of incorporation can be as low as $90! The cost of continuing to operate as a corporation is low as well.

4. There is no income tax for corporations that are incorporated in Delaware, but conduct transactions out of the state.

5. A single person can hold all offices of the corporation, such as, president, secretary, treasurer, and director. In Delaware, it is not necessary to list the names of the officers of a corporation in the articles of incorporation.

6. The minimum number of directors permitted in Delaware is one.

7. It is not mandatory for shareholders, officers and directors to be residents of Delaware. They merely have a resident registered as an agent to represent them in the state.

8. One of the major advantages of incorporating in Delaware is that shares of a Delaware corporation owned by people residing out of Delaware are not subject to taxation.

9. Names of stockholders are not revealed to the state.

10. Unlimited stock of any par value is allowed.

11. There is no minimum capital requirement for incorporation.

12. Corporate meetings and activities can be held outside of the State.

The Finalization of Incorporation
Once the business has decided to be incorporated, the Articles of Incorporation have to be filed with the Secretary of State and they may take 5 to 6 working days to expedite orders and 4 to 6 weeks to process non-expedite orders. Drafting the bylaws, naming directors, setting guidelines for operating the business, issuing stock certificates and opening a bank account in the corporation’s name are the next steps of forming a corporation.

Additional Help
Software is available to run, maintain, and document records of a corporation. This makes the task of incorporation and running a successful business easier.

Knowing The Various Costs Of Starting A New Business

Start Up No Comments

Knowing the costs for starting a new business at the outset gets the business started on the right footing right from day one. The knowledge of start-up costs helps determine all the financing needs and helps map out the business plan. Both of these things enable businesses to obtain bank loan approvals.

Identify the Priorities
Knowing the cost of starting a new business helps to understand the cash flow of the business as well. When the entrepreneur knows the business costs, it is easier to determine which ones need to be paid first, and which can wait until later. This can save quite a bit in interest costs, especially when borrowing money to finance a business. Even when using their own savings to finance the business, the entrepreneurs can earn interest on the money they do not need straightaway by placing it in a deposit, or leaving it in a savings account.

Setup Costs
Apart from the costs of financing, take a look at the following setup costs.

1.Legal and professional fees include registering your business name and the legal costs of registering the business as a proprietorship, corporation, or partnership.

2.The costs of a rental lease for your business premises.

3.The initial rental payments for the premises.

4.Equipment like office furniture, computers, and software.

5.Office fittings and decor.

6.Other professional fees, such as fees for a graphics designer or public relations consultant.

7.Office supplies like paper, letterheads, and business cards.

8.Marketing and advertising costs.

9.Costs for obtaining permits and licenses.

10.Insurance costs for employee compensation.

11.A bank balance sufficient to meet payments for the upcoming quarter

There are many other costs for starting a new business that the entrepreneur must loot at in order to crea
