Fair Trade is a new buzzword. After you have read this article, you’ll have a better sense of how Fair Trade impacts the global marketplace and how you can make a difference with your purchasing power.
Fair Trade is a name for an economic and environmental program that offers growers and producers of many different types of goods fair wages and resources for the items that they produce. Instead of creating a marketplace based on the lowest prices possible and harsh work conditions, it is a way of recognizing products and companies that think about the impact on humanity and not just the bottom line.
In practice, this means that the workers receive their country’s minimum wage or a living wage, which includes extra money to help with food, clothing and other necessities. It is a movement geared at reversing the impact of the “sweat shop” mentality that so many producers have relied upon in the past. With Fair Trade, it’s about getting work done for honest pay and not building an industry on the backs of third world nations.
Fair Trade producers also work toward developing practices that help preserve our natural resources. Instead of harvesting and destroying an area of the world, this kind of trade aims at sustainability. The planet has only so many resources, so it is important to preserve the ones that we have.
By buying these kinds of products, you are supporting all of these principles and encouraging the program with your dollars. Fair Trade helps developing nations while you get some great quality products at the same time. You can easily find coffee, chocolate, sugar, bananas, handmade items, flowers, honey and fruit that are all made under the fair trade principles. Any time you need some of these items, try to buy Fair Trade.
You can easily identify these kinds of products by looking for the Certification Mark on products at the grocery store or local market. This labeling system ensures that Fair Trade isn’t used as just a label. There are strict guidelines that a company and a product need to meet in order to become qualified. They have to prove that they have fair employment practices and are based on environmentally sound principles.
You can also find these items at retail stores in the form of textiles and other artisan items. Handmade handbags and clothes can have the Fair Trade label. If you can’t find any in your local area, there are many options for your shopping needs online.
Make sure to encourage Fair Trade in your area by asking your grocer or local shopkeeper about carrying these kinds of items. Educate your friends and family about the benefits. Let them know that their support can make a difference in whether or not there are such items in your area.
When you make the effort to buy Fair Trade items, you’re making a difference. Even though the price may be slightly higher than conventional items, it’s serving a greater purpose. Help support this new movement and change the way people live all around the world.

Anyone who has a kid understands that the arrival of a newborn baby is filled with both joy and stress for both parents. Despite the “stress” that is quite obvious to a third party when one is having a new baby, it is usually surpassed by just the smile and laughter of the baby. Full grown men melt and soften when they see their own kid smile at them. This is why times like these are celebrated and shared with friends through baby gifts.
Every newborn baby is unique and special (at least, the parents would like to think so). Ideally, you want a gift that reflects this uniqueness and simple quirks of the baby. Luckily, there are a lot of baby gifts out there to fit the kids uniqueness in the eyes of the parents. I don’t know where the baby gift companies come up with some of their ideas but I like it!
The most important thing, though to keep in mind when choosing a gift for the new baby is that you aren’t giving it to the baby but the gift is actually a gift to the parents. Obviously, the kid has no preference nor ability to communicate what he likes yet. No fashion sense, no hobbies, etc etc - so for the first six months, you should remember that the gift is for the parents primarily and what they want for their kid.
A practical yet unique baby gifts is one of the best ways to go. We all know that it is not easy nor is it cheap to raise a newborn. You might be tempted to be lazy and just give money or baby supplies. However, since you have taken the time to do some internet research and read this it is obvious that you are not lazy.
Just be patient when looking - there is a plethora of practical but unique baby gifts out there. What comes to mind is a diaper cake - a bunch of diapers aesthetically arranged along with baby trinkets.
A great source to help you pick out baby gifts are baby showers or people who are experienced in them. Talking to other people is a great source in terms of knowing what is being given nowadays.
Now that we have covered the basics, I hope it gets your mind a moving.

The Cessna Citation X is considered as the world’s fastest private jet. It is a medium-sized business jet aircraft which the company has designed to be state of the art as well as uniquely designed to fly at high subsonic speeds. In fact, it is the third fastest civil airplane that has ever flown! Thus it is known to be the fastest private jet available in the world today.
One of its key features is that of its incredibly large diameter in regards to the size of the engine intakes. This feature greatly reduces the noise from the engines as well as improves fuel efficiency. The Cessna Citation X is a jet that is powered by that of dual-hydraulic systems. These inclusive powered controls allows for redundancy. The jet also has two elevators and its tail plane is all-moving in order for trim.
All these features allow the Cessna Citation X to climb an amazing 43,000 feet in just 30 minutes at its maximum takeoff weight. In fact, it is certified to fly up to an incredible 51,000 feet. At that height, fuel efficiency is most optimized. Coupled with the fact that not many airplane fly at that height, there is virtually no airline traffic up there.
Not only is the Cessna Citation X one of the most aerodynamically advanced jet designed, it has the most gorgeous and spacious cabin ever created. This jet looks good both on the inside as well as the outside. Citation X also holds the honor of being the first aircraft to use a Rolls-Royce engine as well as fully-integrated avionics. Thus making it in many ways, a breakthrough in aviation and hence a entirely new aircraft.
The company that built Citation X, Cessna has a long history of building business jets. They are well known for being extremely innovative and are well-respected in the industry. You can see their trademark of being innovative in their expansive family of aircrafts from their single piston-powered aircraft to the Citation X. They are always looking for ways to improve their business and method every single day.
Hence they have dedicated teams of engineers, designers, researchers, pilots, and mechanics that work together closely, integrating their work to systematically develop technologically advanced solution to meet the future needs of their customers. Polarized sunglasses were used by fisherman around the globe for a number of years because of their ability to eliminate glare off the water. In recent years, they have become increasingly more popular with many outdoor sportsmen and women, as well as non-sportsman around the world.
Polarized sunglasses eliminate the glare off water, pavement, or any other service to give you the ability to see more clearly. When light is reflected off of a surface the reflection has what is called a “horizontal polarization”. These sunglasses block this light by using vertical polarization in the lenses.
Cyclists are using these sunglasses in astonishing numbers in order to eliminate glare so they can see the road or path in front of them more clearly and be able to react faster to obstacles or other hazards. Skiers, runners and other outdoor sports enthusiasts are finding that they see better and react faster by having glare eliminated by the sunglasses.
As the technology improved and as polarized sunglasses become more economical, many people began to buy these sunglasses because they look great and are highly effective in cutting down glare. Many consumers are finding that polarized sunglasses are a better option than other types of sunglasses.
As you research polarized sunglasses you will want to keep in mind the purposes you are buying them for. If you plan to wear the sunglasses while you are engaged in outdoor sports make sure that they are durable and made for that purpose in order to protect your safety.
You will also want to consider if you are going to be near water and other elements that can harm your sunglasses if they were not constructed for that purpose. Typically you will be able to find out about the sunglasses you are considering by researching online.
Polarized sunglasses are a great gift for people who drive, spend time outdoors or are engaged in any outdoor sport. A great pair of polarized sunglasses can help them enjoy these activities more and show a great deal of thought in the purchase.
Whether you are investing in your first pair of polarized sunglasses or you are upgrading or replacing your existing sunglasses, polarized sunglasses are a good investment. From wrap-around styles, to more traditional styles to very funk styles, you will be able to find a pair of polarized sunglasses that meet your needs and your tastes.

The phone card has been a tremendous boon for international travellers but did you know more and more people are discovering their cost effectiveness in making long distance calls within their own country. That’s right, the phone card has become a regular part of the communication landscape for many phone users.
For those who haven’t used a phone card before there are several steps you should be familiar with but the bottomlime is, they are simple to use and will save you plenty in call costs.
Purchasing A Phone Card
There are dozens of different cards available. Once upon a time you had to visit an outlet physically to purchase one but today, the convenience of the internet has allowed purchasers to simply go online and complete the signup process without leaving there homes. Doing a search for phone cards will bring you thousands of results and I have found that you generally don’t need to look past the first page. Sticking with high page rank sites will generally guarantee you that the site has been established for a long period of time and that they have been doing business successfully and can be trusted.
Once you have gone through the signup process and make your payment: you’ll generally be given a variety of plans at varying costs, your pin is delivered quickly, usually no longer than a minute. Be aware that for security reasons, often manual verification of the credit card details may be performed to protect you against fraudulent credit card practice but don’t worry, this can only be to your advantage. This is usually the case if it is your first purchase.
How Much Will You Spend?
As a rule, for first time phone card users I’d suggest start small. You are given a number of options but a $10 purchase should be sufficient to get you up and running. Depending on the company you sign up with, this amount should get you a minimum of 300 minutes international talk time. Once you have established a relationship with the company, and trust is established, then you should consider “upping the ante.” You’ll find when you login to re-charge your card, quite often you’ll be offered an incentive to go to a higher amount by way of extra talk time for added minimal cost. I often ignore these offers but it is up to you; if you are a regular user then they may be worthwhile accepting.
Your pin number should be memorized and while they are usually made up of up to ten numerals, it’s amazing how quickly you’ll learn them without referring to them. Online, you are usually safe guarded from either losing or forgetting your number because it is just a simple matter of logging into your account and retrieving it. This is another important consideration with online signups; a quality service should have an area where your pin numbers are stored safely and if they don’t you may want to consider joining a service that does.
So, if you have been considering joining the phone card landscape, it’s well worth it because of the cheaper calling rates. However, don’t rush into any contracts too hastily and do a little due diligence on the provider. Once you have established a good relationship, you’ll be wondering why you didn’t “cross to the phone card side” sooner.

When shopping for phone cards, the choice is extensive and it can sometimes present an overwhelming feeling of indecision for the consumer. Basically, remember that a phone card is designed to do one thing; provide you with a low cost alternative to more expensive and traditional means of connecting with friends and family. For overseas calls they are an absolute boon.
In my case, maintaining a long distance relationship with my fiance has been helped no end by the daily use of a phone card. Making long distance calls by traditional means between Australia and the United States can be an expensive past time however, with a phone card, my costs have virtually been reduced to a miniscule proportion of what they would otherwise have been.
Choosing A Phone Card
When selecting my phone card I performed a checklist of requirements before going online to find the most suitable card for my situation. These are some of the requirements I needed:
- What is the per minute cost of calls to my destination of choice? Surprisingly, I didn’t choose the cheapest option out there simply because there were too many grey areas present. Sometimes cheapest isn’t best and in the end, the choice you make may be a combination of things.
- Will the rates vary or stay constant? Are there any hidden fees? This was important. I preferred to select a card that offered constant rates and the opportunity of earning bonus minutes in relation to how often I used the card. The last thing I needed were unwelcome surprises. Another factor I considered was the charge of connection and maintenance fees. I wanted a straight out rate and this is one area you will need be clear about when choosing your phone card.
- Placing more than one call without re-entering the pin? This wasn’t a major factor in my overall decision however, I liked the idea of not going through the entire process of re-dialling lengthy pin numbers if I happened to be disconnected. This could occur by several means but one of the most common is flat phone batteries. This is an option to consider but more a preferred choice.
- Customer service… could I contact my phone card company if a problem arose? In the end, this was the one requirement I placed the most emphasis on. Even though they weren’t the cheapest, their level of customer service was fantastic and for the sake of a few cents for every hour I spent on the phone, it was well worth it. I recently put the customer service factor to the test when I required a copy of my phone records for a 12 month period. They reciprocated with a full copy within three days. It was no trouble at all. I couldn’t have asked for any more.
Remember, depending on the level of use, a phone card can provide a tremendous saving to your telephone activities. Cheapest is not always best; I consider developing a good relationship with a company more important than saving an extra cent or two an hour and possible problems down the track.

Christmas is coming up and many will rely on ATM machines to get them through the busy shopping season.
I can remember a time when the only method of doing any transaction in a bank was on a personal level with a live bank teller. Then during the late 60’s I remember seeing my first auto-teller. Many, like me, did our utmost to bypass the darn machine and use the live teller.
Today is a whole new ballgame as they say. Automatic Teller Machines [ATM] can be found just about everywhere.
ATM cash machines [hereafter referred to as teller machines or machines] have been incorporated into our way of life. They offer a real convenience to those on the run but at the same time offer an element of risk. Using a teller machine safely requires awareness and a little planning. Just because these machines are open and available 24-hours a day does not mean that they are safe to use.
Most robberies at teller machines occur at night between 8:00 PM and midnight. Robbers of teller machines are usually males under 25 years of age and most work alone. These robbers usually position themselves nearby waiting for a victim to approach and withdraw cash. Most teller machine victims are women and were alone when robbed. Most claim that they never saw the robber coming. Most perpetrators use a gun or claim to have a concealed weapon when confronting the victim and demanding their cash.
If you or your family members use auto-teller cash machines on a regular basis, the following tips can make the process a little safer.
Use only teller machines in well-lighted, high-traffic areas. Do not use machines that are remote or hidden by being located behind buildings, behind pillars, walls, or away from public view. Beware of obvious hiding places in the area around teller machines such as shrubbery or overgrown trees. Thieves like to have the element of surprise and no witnesses. They all like good escape routes such as nearby freeway on-ramps or high-speed thoroughfares.
Even if it is a couple of miles out of the way, choose a machine that looks and feels safer. Try and limit your use to daylight hours.
If possible, take someone with you after hours. When you drive up to a teller machine location, scan the area for any suspicious persons. If you see anyone suspicious standing nearby or sitting in a car, drive away without stopping.
When you approach a teller machine on foot be prepared and have your access card ready. Memorize your personal PIN number to prevent loss and speed the transaction. After inserting your card and your PIN number keep an eye out behind you. Never accept an offer of help or request help from a suspicious man or woman ahead of you at the machine. If anyone suspicious or seemingly dangerous approaches terminate your transaction and leave immediately, even if it means running away and leaving your bank card in the machine. First, tell the suspicious man or woman in a loud, firm voice to back-off and leave you alone. This is designed to startle the person and give you time to flee, if appropriate.
When you receive cash from the machine put it away immediately. Take your card and walk away.
If you use your car at a drive-thru teller machine the similar precautions apply. Keep the car in gear, with your foot firmly on the brake, while using the machine. Keep a close eye on your rear and side view mirrors during the transaction. Robbers almost always approach from the rear on the side of the driver. If you see anyone suspicious approaching, drive off even if you have not completed your transaction. If an armed robber confronts you, just give up your money without argument. The cash is not worth serious injury or death. Get to a safe place and call the police immediately.
If lights around the machine are not working, do not use that machine. Do not count your cash in public.
Do not fight with or attempt to follow the robber. Drive or walk to a safe place and immediately call the police.
I urge everyone to make sure everyone in your family is made familiar with these protocols to avoid any problems when using ATM machines.
Now is the time to use our head and put these practices into use.

Private number plates offer the owner of a vehicle the chance to have a plate that reflects them or makes a statement about them. As of September 2001 private plates have gone to seven possible character combinations. This has not gone over very well with the general public, which has meant an increase in business for the auction houses. They auction off with lower number combinations. The lower the number of possible combinations on the plate, the more valuable the private number plate becomes.
Why people may want to get one
People would originally get a private number plate because it said something about them. Then it became a status symbol for the owner and now it has become an investment opportunity for the owner of the plate. Many people, and even businesses, are looking at their private number plates as an investment. The smaller the number of possible character combinations on the plate the more valuable they become.
Some suspect that some of the earliest private number plates could bring in well over 250,000 pounds at auction. The lure of the chance to make a lot of money is there, but there is a bit of caution. Not all private number plates have the same potential to gain value. Those that are are re-issues from the DVLA will not have the same potential as others will. Also, you will want to focus on the older private number plates as they will have a much better chance to increase in value over time.
Overview on history
The private number plate was first introduced in 1903 with the plate ‘A1′. They are unique from any other type of plate because there is only one of each private number plate made. They do not get re-issued in subsequent years. Each private registration is only issued to one person and vehicle. There have been a number of increases in the number of possible character combinations over the last 100 years. They began with 2 possible character combinations and currently there are 7 possible character combinations.
DVLA’s involvement
The DVLA is the official issuer of private registrations and they also auction off existing private registration plates. You will want to seek out professional help before attending a DVLA auction to be sure that the private number plates you are going to bid on at auction will be worth your money. You can also go to the DVLA website to search for and get your own new private number plate. One suggestion that has been made is that you will want to make sure that the private number plate actually says something, without adding anything to it. Private registrations that spell out a word increase in value more than those that do not.
For available private plates visit Private Plate Registration, DVLA Cherished Number Plates or Cheap Personalised Private Number Plates - all offer a fantastic range of private plates.

The only people who think of finding apartments for rent a breathtaking experience are the ones who have never done it before. Where first-time apartment hunters are able to look at the words ‘cozy soundproof studio’ and have visions of livable quarters all warm and snuggly, seasoned veterans see those words and instantly envision a 4×4 padded cell. After the first couple times of being stuck in a lease paying for an apartment downstairs from a 24-hour tap-dancing school or a place where the windows are sealed shut and the neighbors constantly cook weird smelling foods, you learn to effectively decipher the hidden language of apartment classifieds.
Newspaper classifieds have the ability to be the most deceiving. The apartment may sound good in the ad; it may sound even better over the phone after talking to the landlord. Yet, forty-five minutes later, after driving through a neighborhood that looks like a demilitarized zone, you pull up in front of the apartment building and instantly get a pretty good idea of what the apartment looks like without ever getting out of your car; and as you squeal your tires leaving the neighborhood, you realize: finding decent apartments for rent is no easy feat.
Apartment handbooks can work well when it comes to finding apartments for rent but the pictures are usually angled to make the apartment community look more inviting than it actually is. A peaceful quiet community is what you see, not the freeway next to it. Not to mention, these types of books are often mass-produced and then left to sit in the entrances of grocery stores, libraries or other venues. More often than not, the information in the handbooks is outdated. In the time the book was completed and put out, changes in management or ownership may have occurred voiding certain policies and guidelines. Where pets were allowed at one point in time, new management may put the kibosh on the policy, or maybe changed the policy as to allow no animals over 25 pounds. Rental prices often go up and senior discounts can be changed or discontinued. Either way, you’ll have no way of knowing this for sure until you contact the apartment community. The lack of current information can, once again, take you back to the drawing board.
Then comes the advent of online apartment listings; the true apartment hunter’s friend. This method of finding apartments for rent saves time, gas and most importantly, sanity. This expendable tool works in conjunction with the prime rule for finding apartments for rent: know thy options. Apartments that are advertised online have a number of their options listed such as location, price range and number of bedrooms. Because the information is online, it is more likely to be up-to-date. Some online apartment ads go as far as to offer ‘3D’ views of their apartments, which are panoramic shots that give potential tenants a feel for the space instead of viewing just a flat picture. A majority of the time you will be able to find out which utilities are included, facilities that are offered, such as a laundry room or a gym, parking availability, whether or not pets are allowed; and some will even allow you to fill out your application online!
This is also a priceless tool for finding apartments in far-off cities. Many times online users are offered great perks such as no credit checks or no upfront deposit. There may also be offers or referrals for moving services as well as utility hookup services. These things will make your move much, much easier.
Obviously, when it comes to finding apartments for rent, hunting online can be the best way to go. You certainly won’t have the problem of wasting rubber on your tires squealing out of neighborhoods.

The Corvette has been associated with speed since its inception in 1953 and the aesthetics of the Corvette have become the flagship design of the Chevrolet model for the past couple of decades.
The Corvette was never slow by any means, but there was a recent push for smaller, compact street devils that have been transforming roads into fast and furious tracks in the past few years. This movement alienated the reign of the extended body Muscle cars for a time.
Even more recently there has been a shift occurring in the automotive world back to the much-loved, and greatly missed, gas guzzling, road chewing, you better watch your asphalt, Muscle car.
Fortunately, with this return to the bent chassisa of the sixties and seventies comes with improved factory standards including: better gas mileages, safety measures, interior luxury, and above all, performance and speed. Forbes recently published a list of The Top Ten Fastest American Cars. Guess who makes an appearance at number five?
The Top Ten Fastest American Cars.
No. 1 SSC Ultimate Aero.
Base Price: $654,500.
260 to 273 mph
No. 2 Saleen S7 Twin Turbo.
Baseline Price: $555,000.
240 to 260 mph (estimated)
No. 3 Evans 387 and 487 (tie) Base Prices: $175,000. (387); $170,000 (487) No. 4 Ford GT
No. 4 Ford GT.
Base Price: $141,245.
205 mph
No. 5 Chevrolet Corvette Z06.
Base Price: $65,800.
198 mph
No. 6 Dodge Viper SRT-10.
Baseline Price: $85,745.
190 mph (estimated)
No. 7 Mullen M-11 with V-8.
Baseline Price: $69,950.
180+ mph
No. 8 Panoz Esperante GTLM.
Base Price: $121,325.
180 mph
No. 9 Chrysler 300C SRT8, Dodge Charger SRT8 and Dodge Magnum SRT8 (tie) Base Price(s): $42,695 (300C), $38,095 Charger) and $37,995 (Magnum.)
165 to 170 mph (estimated)
No. 10 Cadillac CTS-V. Base Price: $51,395.
Top Speed: 163 mph
And what does Forbes have to say about the Corvette’s performance,
“The newest Corvette is also the fastest Corvette ever. Recently released, the Z06 has about as low a sticker price as a car with 505 hp can have. The Z06 performs like a race car or supercar, but is also a perfectly acceptable ‘daily driver.’ Consider its fuel economy: 16/26 city/highway mpg–hardly typical for a race car.”
Considering the SSC Ultimate Aero costs ten times the price of a Chevrolet Corvette Z06, but only delivers 60 to 73 more mph. The Z06 really does get you more go for your dough!
The Z06 seems to be middle of the road, of the top ten fastest, but if you look at the numbers, you are paying 20k less for a Z06 than the Dodge Viper SRT-10, commonly mistaken as delivering more speed.
With a price tag that leaves a few dimes in the pocket and a speed threshold that threatens to tear those pockets off your designer leather pants, the huge demand and popularity of the Corvette Z06 proves that the era of the Muscle car is not over.

Years ago, the idea of being able to pay your bills online was absurd. Getting your paycheck automatically deposited into your account through a computer was foreign. And the idea of having a live conversation with someone via typing at a keyboard in another state or country was crazy.
Now it seems crazy that it was considered crazy. Almost everything is done via computers these days: communications, finances, and buying/ordering stuff. In the past, the easiest way to read a magazine was through going out and buying one. The easiest way to subscribe was to fill out a card in the magazine and send it in. And the hardest part was waiting for it to come.
As the world’s technology grows, so do its options in almost every facet of life. Magazines are distributed mainly per location: where they’re most likely to get sold. A farmer magazine is not likely to sell in New York. A surfing magazine is not likely to sell in South Dakota. Hence, certain interest groups are not likely sold in certain places. What if someone in New York was or wants to be a farmer? How do they get a farming magazine? Online!
Not only do your options for which magazine to get open up, but also the convenience of ordering it is far easier. You don’t have to go out to a grocery store or bookstore and look through all the magazines to find the one you want. You don’t have to order through a pushy telemarketer. You don’t have to send out a card. You just have to turn on your computer and browse in the comfort of your home. Ordering your magazine subscription online is fast, easy, reliable, and often cheaper.
Beyond subscriptions, you can usually search for, find, and order back issues, special editions, and old issues of magazines!
If you know what magazine you’d like to order, it’s as easy as a few clicks away. If you’re unsure of what magazine you’d like to subscribe to, it’s easy to find recommendations, other people’s opinions, or browse by topic until one catches your eye. The resources are limitless online!

When sunglasses were first invented they were not to help protect your eyes or even for their good looks. They were actually invented so a roman emperor could watch gladiators. Another early use of sunglasses was for interrogations in China over 500 years ago. Also, judges in China wanted to hide their facial expressions so they would wear shades so the witnesses could not see their reactions.
In the 18th century sunglasses saw a change. James Ayscough began experimenting with tinted lenses in spectacles. When Sam Foster introduced the shades to America in 1929, they became an instant hit.
Different from their predecessors, these glasses were designed to protect their wearer’s eyes from the sun. Lens polarization soon followed thanks to Edwin Land who utilized his panted Polaroid filter to make sunglasses. Sunglasses sure came a long way from the Roman and Chinese roots.
So what is the Big Deal about Polarized Glasses?
Upon striking the water or any reflective surface, light becomes polarized. Nearly all of the light waves in polarized light move in one plane. Normal light waves move in many planes, while polarized lenses allow only light in one plane to pass through the lens. Thus polarized glasses nearly eliminate the glare.
Although sunlight is not polarized, water’s surface reflects and transmits the separated components. The light literally breaks into the vertical and horizontal component, with the horizontal component reflected first. To nearly eliminate the glare, engineers designed a vertically polarized lens. The sun’s height also affects polarization. Fishermen often wear polarized glasses with filters to help block the light reflected by the water’s surface. Thus they can see under the surface of the water.
Can polarized glasses really work against the sun and get rid of all reflections?
No, these sun glasses eliminate parts of the reflective light and thus reduce the glare.
Should people who like to fish think about purchasing polarized glasses?
Reflective surfaces, like the water, reflect a great deal of light, and thus the bright spots can distract the fisherman or even hide objects, like the fish. Good sunglasses will eliminate the glare with polarization. Natural or artificial light can polarize. Anytime you look at a lake or river, you are seeing naturally polarized light. The reflected glare off the water is the light that doesn’t make it through the “filter” of the water, and thus you cannot see anything below the surface, even when the water is clear.
Polarized light results from light striking the surface of the water horizontally. Fishermen wear polarized lenses that allow vertically polarized light to enter, and thus he can see into the water and spot fish and structure.
How do polarized sun glasses and normal sun glasses differ?
It is important to buy glasses that you feel comfortable with. You should not purchase polarized glasses just because they say they are better. But the truth is that normal sunglasses merely decrease the intensity of all light passing through their lenses. Polarized light also decreases light, but it does so selectively. Thus the polarized lenses selective eliminate the reflection from the light off the water’s surface.
Polarized glasses are great for a variety of outdoor sports and projects. They are great in the winter, summer, fall, and spring. You really do not need to buy any other sun glasses if you own a pair of polarized sun glasses.
If you are interested in purchasing a pair of polarized sun glasses the Internet is a great source of information. You may even find a few good sites to make your purchase from.

eBay is one of the largest auctioneer sites on the Internet and literally millions of people use it to either buy or sell items. It is a particularly favorite site for collectors. No matter what you collect, be it cuckoo clocks, antiques, sports memorabilia or jewelry of every kind, you can find it there. This site is also great for sellers because whatever they are trying to sell, they can usually find a buyer for it.
Buying Collectibles on eBay
It’s easy to find whatever it is you collect on eBay. Just choose a category and start searching. If you’re looking for a needed part to finish restoring your vintage vehicle, be it an ashtray or a side view mirror, you can find it. You might be looking for a certain chair to complete the set of your antique dining room furniture, or earrings to match the vintage necklace that you own. All are available at this one site. The best news is, because it’s an auction and you are bidding on items, you have an excellent chance of getting what you want at an affordable price. This site saves you not only money but time as well.
Now you don’t have to prowl antique stores, or secondhand shops to find what you are looking for. Because of its convenience, eBay can become very addictive and you might find that you have too many items. This might make you want to get rid of some of the things to free up space or to make room for more valuable collectibles that you find. That won’t be a problem because, the same way you buy on eBay, you can sell items as well.
Selling Items on eBay
Selling items on eBay is easy and is a good way to get rid of things that you no longer want. Before you throw something away, remember the old saying that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. It might seem valueless to you, but to someone else it might be a collector’s item. You can make some extra money on the side by listing things like your mom’s old rolling pin. Believe it or not, there are people who collect vintage kitchenware.
How about those old clothes that you saved from years ago and have finally given up on ever fitting them again? Vintage clothes are a hot item on this site. Sell the old ones and take the money that you make and get some new ones. Many people start a side business doing this. They prowl garage sales and buy things that they resell on eBay. You might find an old vase that you pay a next to nothing for and make a big profit on it by auctioning it off.
Whether you are a collector or you just want to clean out your attic, eBay is the best site to save you money or bring home a tidy profit.

Gift giving is a way to show you care. During the holidays people become more aware of those in need around them. The urge to give gifts is natural but it doesn’t have to break your budget.
There are many in need throughout the entire year although most people only think of giving to them at Christmas. There are many ways to give without spending a lot of money.
One of the best and most inexpensive gifts is your time. Helping deliver meals to shut ins, feeding the homeless, or even babysitting your neighbor’s child are all examples. Many food pantries and shelters are overwhelmed with people at this time of year and would always welcome an extra set of hands. Anything from clothes to blankets to food is sometimes needed to be delivered to those in need.
Another inexpensive present to give is kindness. It may be a meal to an elderly neighbor or a helping hand to that tired looking mom in the grocery store. Kindness is often overlooked as the best gift worth giving. The best part is the fast return, better than any money market account. You will feel the joy instantly.
Using the skills you already have is a great way to give a present. If you can build offer to help fix something for someone. If you sew, make a warm sweater for the person you see living on the street. If you cook take a fresh cooked meal to someone in need like the person you watch buying only bread and potatoes from the store every week because they can’t afford anything else. If you can read go to a school and volunteer your time, read to the kids who can’t read. If you can listen, sit by the elderly woman on the bus who has no one to talk to. If you can write then write to a soldier in Iraq, then write to his wife and children in the US spending the holidays alone.
The holidays are also a good time to remember those serve others the rest of the year. Try giving a card to your doorman, garbage man, policeman even the minister. You can make a card using stamps or writing in calligraphy. Many people deserve a thank you card such as gas station attendant or the waitress who brought your food, even the bagger at the grocery store. A thank you note or letter will brighten their holiday.
There are many gifts that a person can give that don’t cost anything. The only thing they cost is your time, energy, compassion and heart. During the holiday season you can give an inexpensive present that is worth more than all the money you have. Look around and then get busy!

People love shopping on eBay, especially collectors. There, you can find just about anything you collect including items you can’t find anywhere else. There are tips you can use to make buying your collectibles there easier and more affordable.
Categories
EBay lists their items for sale in categories and subcategories. For example if you collect dolls, search under that main category. If you collect only a certain type of doll like cultural dolls or dolls of specific ethnicity, you can search under the subcategory. EBay also allows you to save your favorite categories, so every time you visit the site it will be easy to go right to the category of your choice. You can also save it in “Favorites”, located on your Internet browser
Description Errors or Omissions
Another way that can help you save money is by looking for description errors or omissions. Chances are that if you have been collecting something for a while, you can look at a picture of it and identify its value. Many sellers’ don’t know how valuable their merchandise is and list it in general terms. You can contact the seller and with just few questions, confirm if that item is more valuable than he is selling it for. This will allow you to get it at a good price and either keep it or resell it to make a profit.
Beware of Descriptions.
Many sellers describe their merchandise, as “rare” and this might not be the case. Don’t hesitate to contact the seller to get more information about it. You can research the item and find out if it’s rare or not
Keep Track of Your Favorite Sellers
As you continue to shop on eBay, you will probably find several sellers that you like to make multiple purchases from. These are the sellers who consistently offer quality items at good prices. The site has a “favorite sellers” category, so you can keep track of them and what they are selling. You can also add them to the “Favorites” on your Internet browser.
Be Willing to Walk Away from an Auction
Don’t be afraid to walk away from an auction if the bidding becomes too high. New items are listed everyday and if you don’t get the one you want at one auction, you can pretty much be sure that you can get it at another. This helps you to avoid overbidding.
Shipping Prices
Some sellers offer free shipping, while others make you pay for it. Not all of these sellers charge just the actual cost to ship the item. Some also charge handling fees, so you might get the item for a good price and then pay too much for the shipping. If you’re going to buy several items from the same seller, check to see if they will combine the shipping fees, to save you money.
Shopping on eBay is fun and by following these tips, you can make it affordable as well.

Because the main reason that fruit trees die is due to misunderstandings and common misconceptions, caring for a fruit tree not only requires responsibility, but also semi-extensive research.
Leaf/fruit/twig diseases may weaken the tree and reduce the overall fruit quality, but the tree usually survives these diseases. It is damage to the trunk, crown, and roots which generally causes the death of a fruit tree, and many of the reasons these damages would occur can be accommodated with a little bit of knowledge.
If the soil is not properly attended to, the roots will not develop and your plant will lack nutrition, which will result in poor fruit quality and give your tree a potential death sentence. Note your area, climate, and tree type, and explain these conditions to a nursery employee, and you will almost definitely receive a fertilizer which will nurse your tree into a long life, which will produce healthy fruits for years to come.
Healthy Branches
After the fertilizer is in use, your tree should begin to develop. Many people think things develop at the speed they are meant to, however, this is not always true: fruit trees sometimes begin to develop fruit before the branches are sturdy enough to support the weight. The result: snapping branches. The solution: putting boards under the branches to help support the weight, or tying the branches up to something higher up.
As your tree begins to grow, do not make the mistake that many people make, which is that it must need excessive amounts of water to continue to grow at a healthy rate. Why? Because it is not true: too much water can be worse than not enough! If you notice your tree is starting to wither, do not assume it is because it needs water. Rather, look online, or talk to a nursery employee, and go from there. If lack of water is not the problem, over-watering will only add to the real problem.
Branches
If you notice unhealthy branches or leaves in your tree, you should remove them. The reason: the tree is probably still sending nutrients to this sector, and therefore, taking away from the other, healthier branches. Chop off unhealthy looking branches at first signs of deterioration, so your plant can focus on the healthier parts and therefore continue to flourish.
As your tree begins to produce fruit, it also begins to open up an invitation for unwanted insects or disease, if you do not take care of your tree at this stage. You must pick the fruit from your tree (even ones you do not want), so it will not rot. Also, pick up fallen fruit from the ground.
The joy of watching your tree flourish into a healthy fruit-bearing asset will surely make you grateful for all the time, research, and care you put into helping it past its vulnerable stages.

People have different reasons for wanting to play golf such as for enjoyment or for their career. Some people play with their colleagues, clients, or boss to help further their career, or make a good impression. The reasons you have for golfing does not change the fact that it can be quite expensive. This is the reason that even though it has grown in popularity, it is still an elite sport.
It costs money every time you want to go golf. You either have to have a membership to a golf course, or pay a fee every time you want to go. If you are a beginner you may need to pay for lessons. Even if you are not a beginner you may want to take some lessons to help improve your game. You also need to take into consideration the clothes that will be needed. You will need comfortable pants and shirts that you can easily move in. You will also need golf shoes. Sunglasses or some type of sun protection for you eyes is usually recommended. You will need to buy golf balls, golf clubs, and a golf bag.
Before you go out and purchase the necessary equipment you may want to ask people you know for advice. You can ask your boss or close friends or relatives who play the sport what they like to use when they golf. They will probably be able to tell you which brands are better than others. By asking more than one person you can get a better idea of what to look for when you go shopping.
You may want to do some other research in addition to asking friends. You can look in golf magazines or online and get information on golf equipment. The Internet offers you a huge selection of information to choose from. Magazines may have a list of what was the best seller for the previous year. There are plenty of articles available from other golfers giving advice as well. With all this information you should be able to make an informed decision.
When you actually go to purchase your equipment you have a couple of options. You can go online and find a set of clubs, or you can go to a retail store. There are a couple of advantages to going to a retail store. If you go to the store you can try the clubs and get a feel for them before you buy them.
You will have a salesman there who can help you find exactly what you need. Salesmen usually have a pretty good idea about which equipment will work best. Do keep in mind that they are salesman and they like to sell their products. Taking a friend who is knowledgeable about the sport would also be beneficial. Your friend can make sure you really get what you need and are not drawn in by the sales pitch.
Also remember that no matter how great your equipment is you still need to know what you are doing on the golf course. You can’t expect to go out on the course and be great your first time, it takes practice and a basic knowledge about the sport.

In 1907 a wonderful new candy made its debut, Hershey’s Kisses. This smooth sweet candy was shaped in a teardrop and hand wrapped in foil. Although the origin of the name is unknown, it is believed to come from the way it is formed. The chocolate was dripped while in the process of manufacturing. Originally the kisses were individually hand wrapped but in the 1920’s machines were created to take over the task.
Since the introduction of the Hershey’s Kiss the wrapping process has remained relatively the same. The little flag coming from the top of the chocolate was added in 1924. Today machines can wrap approximately 1,300 of the delicious candies per minute.
In the last 80 years the shape and style of the popular candy have remained relatively the same. There have been a few variations tried over this time but none have sufficed the way the original has.
There have been a few tries to compete with the formula but none since 1931. Sweethearts, Silvertops, and Silverpoints may be recalled by the older generation as similar but still not the same or even close enough to compete.
In 1942 production of Hershey’s Kisses was interrupted due to rationing for the war. Production was halted for seven years while silver foil was rationed during and after World War II. Three million military ration chocolate pastes were produced using Hershey’s molding department and their mixing ingredients.
The original candies were previously wrapped only in silver foil; however in 1962 colored foils were introduced. This began a trend over the following years to match the color of foil of Hershey’s Kisses with the current holiday. There were red, green and silver foils available during the Christmas season, pastel pink, blue and green foils available for Easter, and finally red and silver foil available for Valentine’s Day.
Until 1990 there were no additions to the chocolate itself in the Hershey’s Kisses. At this point Hershey’s franchise introduced almonds into the Kisses. These quickly became popular and have been here to stay. A few short years later a new candy mixed with white chocolate was introduced as Hershey’s Hugs. These were miniature in size and have since arrived in mini and full size. There are now variants of the Hershey’s Hugs available with dark chocolate and milk chocolate, peanut butter and milk chocolate and also caramel and milk chocolate.
Beginning with hand wrapped candy chocolate Kisses in 1907, Hershey’s Kisses have remained a favorite in the simple silver foil. There variants are pleasant but they have never been equally competed against. The sweet, smooth chocolate flavor has remained relatively unchanged in almost 100 years. The foil Kiss is known worldwide and instantly recognized by adults and children alike as one of the simple pleasures in life.

You’ve got a new baby and Christmas is around the corner. How will you make this unique Christmas. Yes, the baby cannot tell the difference between it and any other day, but you do know that your baby won’t remain that way for too long, and the satisfaction of having memorabilia of his or her first Christmas is always a great experience. There are a host of ways of marking it. You can make a home video, or take still pictures, or have a painting. The list of possibilities goes on and on.
Books are great baby gifts. Babies grow very fast and that’s no new discovery. You baby will soon know enough to identify it as his/her personal property. Perhaps it such a great gift because it helps you achieve your ulterior motives: teaching him/her read as early as possible. There are fine selections for you to pick from. I won’t make any recommendation since there are very many great options.
Another gift idea is to start a personal Christmas collection for your baby. Greeting card companies also make special Christmas items for babies. This is so great because by the time your baby is old enough to set up his or her own Christmas tree, there will already be a enough personal items to adorn it.
Stuffed animals are also great gift items especially for girls. They will soon learn to cuddle it. And if you have just a kid around, your baby will have a companion she can feed, tell stories, play and do all those baby stuff with.
There are baby wears with special writings on it to show it is your baby’s first Christmas. If you want to take this to another dimension, you can have customized writings on any selection of your choice. There are artists that specialize in writing and painting on clothes.
And taking this idea of stamping your baby’s personality on items, you can do that on other items like clocks, baby blankets and furniture. This is not an exhaustive list and what you can do to customize any of these is only limited by your personal imagination. Another good idea is items that will last for years to come. Those can become special treasures that your baby may sometimes keep to adulthood and hand over to a younger sibling, cousin or even his/her own child.
This is not where to shop for the lowest prices. The cheapest certainly won’t be the most durable. And remember, your baby can only have one first Christmas even if he or she lives to be a hundred years. So be willing to spend a little more for something that will last.
From piggy banks that will teach your baby to be thrifty to sports gifts items for those who believe they have a future sports talent, the selections available are quite huge. You know what is best for your baby. You know what will make for fonder memories. Go make this something you’ll be proud to associate yourself with.

Any time that you think that you may want to make a larger purchase such as a house or a vehicle it is wise to make frequent checks to your credit score. Even when you are not thinking about making large purchases you should check your credit score about every year or so.
When you are making large purchases though lenders look at your credit score and make decisions as to whether or not they will extend your limit or grant you an incentive. By checking your credit score often you will be able to avoid any possible hidden problems.
What does your credit score consist of?
Payment history-35%
Shows if you have been paying your bills on time
It is important to have a good payment history
Liable amount-30%
How much do you owe
What type of account have you taken
Appraisal longevity-15%
The longer the history the more points you accumulate
Indicates how long the accounts have been used
New credit-10%
New accounts that you have opened
How long it has been since you have opened them
Overall mix-10%
The whole of your report and includes:
Credit cards
Installment loans
Mortgage applications
Also look at the amount of your salary to make sure you will be making enough money to cover any future credit purchases.
The Fair Isaac Corporation (FICO) is the one that developed the most widely known software calculator in the 1960’s. This calculator is used to calculate your credit score. It is found to be the most accurate, however, it is not perfect, so as with anything errors can occur which is yet another reason that you should stay on top of your credit score.
It is beneficial to keep up to date on your credit score not only can mistakes happen but you are being compared to thousands of other people with calculations following of a future appraisal risk specifically about you. By keeping a close eye on your credit report you will be able to tell if a mistake has been made more than likely.
Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian are three major United States agencies that use FICO. By checking on your credit score these agencies can determine if you are a good “risk” for them. In other words, they can decide if they will get their money back if they should loan you some. The more points that you have the more likely it is that you are a good risk. It is also more likely that they will offer you more perks. The perks can include lower interest rates.

Spain is a beautiful and vast country. It is a combination of the tropical, serene, and scenic, beaches and countryside and bustling vibrant cities full of wonderful architecture, history, and exciting flea markets.
Spanish culture is rich, and we the British people love Spain and it has become somewhat of a home from home for us, as it only takes approximately two and a half to three hours to fly from the UK to Spain, which is far less time than it would take to drive from say Newcastle to Cornwall or Devon, which are two of Britain’s favourite holiday destinations at home.
Generally, a holiday in Spain is very cheap, and there are many first-rate resorts, hotels and provinces to stay at, visit and enjoy. A holiday in Spain can make for a brilliant holiday for any person, whether a young couple, old couple, a group of friends, sole traveller, grown up family or a young family. Spain really does offer a great variety of entertainment and activities to keep everybody happy, which is really why it is so popular.
Spain is known to be the party capital of Europe and thousands of Britons are drawn there to party and rave every year. Whilst this has courted much bad publicity due to the minority of reported incidents involving thuggish behaviour by Britons there, this really is an absolute minority and is generally blown out of all proportions by the media, and you are very unlikely to encounter any such troubles statistically, which is worth noting should you be considering such a jaunt.
Car hire in Spain is perhaps one of the most important aspects of holidaying in Spain. For some people, staying at the resort throughout their entire holiday is more than fine, but for others whom may wish to venture further a field and have other ideas, a car will be needed to get you around. Your travel agent, as they will usually have a good knowledge of the local facilities and services, ought to be able to recommend a reputable car hire service which you can utilise in the local area you are going to be holidaying in. It is also important to remember Spain is a very hot country, and a car with air conditioning is going to be essential. Sure, it will cost more, but it will really help to cut down the chances of you suffering from heat stroke and exhaustion if you are able to keep the heat at bay.
You are welcome to visit our website for more information on Car Hire in Spain.

For more ideas on inexpensive wedding gifts, you can search the Internet. Many businesses cater to doing small gifts for special occasions at a very low price. You can also buy magazine subscriptions, many couples never think about giving the magazines but many say that would be an excellent gift.
By going to the registry the couple has listed at stores you can find the gifts they really need. If those gifts are too expensive they will at least give you some ideas to get you started in your search.
Candles are a gift that is in style and not too expensive either. They come in many different fragrances and women enjoy them a lot.
Another inexpensive gift that you won’t go wrong with is a gift card to a local store. Then the couple can pick out what they want or use the card as part of payment for another more expensive item. Either way the couple will enjoy your thoughtfulness at the gift.
Regardless of what kind of gift you would like to give to the couple, weddings are an expensive party to be invited to. Gifts are generally expected from all, but they don’t have to cost a lot of money. If you keep in mind the couple will be glad you were there and not worried about what was given to them.

If you want to shave a few strokes off your score but don’t want to pay a lot to do it then a good pair of discount golf shoes could be the answer. A good pair of shoes designed for the game of golf can help on the course as they grip the grass better than regular shoes and cause much less slippage. Staying balanced is key in golf and a good pair of discount golf shoes can keep you on the course instead of slipping all over it.
One good place to find them is sporting good stores which specialize in shoes. Many times, just like regular shoes, they have sales and also carry older pairs to other selections that have been upgraded. These type stores usually have many pairs of discount golf shoes.
Along this line specialty golf stores also can have many pairs to choose from whether they be on sale or older models. An advantage of this type of specialized store is that generally they will have salespeople that are more knowledgeable about the sport of golf and can steer you in the right direction no matter what you are looking for.
Golf is such a popular sport that in many discount malls and outlet malls there are usually sporting goods stores or golf specialty stores. These are great places to pick up some discount golf shoes. Many times they are newer models but if it is an outlet establishment then they are generally overstocked with them and therefore are less expensive.
No matter where you go the best time to buy anything golf is in the dead of winter. If where you live is too cold to play golf in the winter then to make up for lost revenue sporting goods stores and specialty golf stores will have big sales and slash prices on merchandise. You may not break out the discount golf shoes for a while but you will save some money in the process.
It seems as though you can find just about everything you need on the Internet these days. You can buy an entire set of clubs along with a nice new golf outfit all from your computer. Discount golf shoes can be bought this way too. Be careful though as you do not have the option to try them on first, and golf shoes especially need to be comfortable for walking around the course. A good option can be to go to a store that has golf shoes and try some on and see if you can find that type on the Internet. Even though discount golf shoes can be had on the Internet you don’t want to be looking over a birdie putt worrying about your blisters.

Prepaid phone cards have become a godsend for long distance callers in recent years however, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing with the phone card industry smeared to a certain extent by scammers and fraudsters.
Legitimate phone card companies and sellers have had to ride amongst a tide of unscrupulous operators who in many cases do provide a card, but generally they are not worth the paper they are printed on. So how can you protect yourself against pre paid phone card fraud? There are several precautions you can take to safe guard yourself against losing your money.
Four Security Tips
1. Check to see whether the company brand phone card has a point of contact. Very important particularly if you intend to be a long term user. Having a customer service base gives customers greater peace of mind in the knowledge that there is somewhere they can go if things go awry or to just simply seek further information.
2. Read the terms and conditions before purchasing your phone card. This has become a big issue recently where some customers have had no come back against less than fair practices. For instance, you want to clarify that there are no hidden fees or other costs involved with the card. It may look a cheap buy on the surface but is there something “unsavoury” lurking below the surface. You want and are entitled to full disclosure on all terms and conditions in most cases.
3.If buying a traditional phone card, be sure to check that it hasn’t been tampered with. Check the pin and be sure everything is intact.
4. Generally, be satisfied in your own mind that everything seems to check out. Experienced prepaid phone card users often will test a new service by purchasing a token subscription and then trying out the card. This way, they can see just how user-friendly the service is and more importantly, if there is a service at all.
Is It Worth The Effort?
You may be thinking why bother using a phone card if there is so much due diligence to perform before purchasing. In reality, there isn’t, when you compare shopping for a phone card to most other consumer goods. Performing some rigid checks isn’t all that time consuming and can prevent you from losing money unnecessarily.
The advantages of using a prepaid phone card generally outweigh the disadvantages with extremely cheap call rates allowing people to communicate on a regular basis, not just state-to-state, but country-to-country. Once you become a little experienced at using a card service, the due diligence aspect becomes a breeze to perform.
Another tip… when you find a company that meets all the requirements you’re after stick with them. Avoid the temptation to jump services because there is a slightly cheaper deal elsewhere.

People compare their published books to eBooks all of the time. They are pretty much the same until you compare what they do. Both the printed version and the eBooks on line have text and pictures on them. But when you compare them to what they had to do in the olden days, which was use stone for their books, then we come to a totally different conclusion.
We have come a long way from the old days. They used to carry around stones, then scrolls, and then what we know today as books. So as the years went on the ways in which we saw the text became lighter and a lot more convenient for us readers. Even since the time of books things have gotten a little easier. When books were first being published they had to be written by hand, but now we have the printing press which can publish books faster than writing the books out by hand. Now even in these days we can access books on the internet for pretty much any thing that we need them for. So as time goes on we have made many advancements in how we publish books.
Why make things more complicated than they already are?
Which format should you publish your book in? This is a very important question to ask your self if you are thinking about publishing a book of any kind. The smart thing to do would be to publish your book on eBook. Why you may ask? Because most people use the internet to find what they are looking for these days so you may end up making more money if you publish your book on eBook.
Are cattle and eBooks similar?
Cattle and books have some things in common that most people do not think about. They both have to have some sort of mark on them to show who has written it or owns it. Not only do you do this to show others that it is yours, but also so that people will know your mark on certain things. There are of course some people out there who will try to remove your mark from your items and try to sell them as their own. But if people know your mark they will know that it is yours and will do something about the person trying to sell it as their own.
Why are the lights off?
There are basically two ways you can advertise, passive and aggressive. If you choose to do the aggressive advertising you need make sure that you have a catchy slogan that people will remember. After you have come up with a catchy slogan it is time to start the passive advertising. This is done to inform the people about the branding of your product.

My son is a Marine in Iraq right now and I am in the Air Force Reserve. I have been a cop for over 18 years. I wear body armor every day. Over the years the only time I have worn the best armor on the market is when I paid for it myself. Whenever the Government issues it, we get issued armor that is sub standard to the latest Technology. We can never seem to find out who makes the final decision on what we finally are issued. Strange isn’t it.
I as well as my son have been issued the Interceptor Armor, which blows my mind since for a couple of years now everyone has known the superiority of Pinnacle’s Dragon skin. My son is getting shot at with Ak47’s, and 7.62 type rounds. The whole vest should stop these rounds not just where the added SAPI plates are. The current Interceptor unless hit in the SAPI plates only stops a 9mm round. I want my son to be wearing the best and nothing less.
Helmets are also being manufactured with better ballistics and suspension systems that reduce the concussion pressures from blasts and impacts. Why do we issue the next best thing? Because the idiots who are in charge don’t have to wear it and someone is making a Buck.
The Military Intelligence thinking is not to allow soldiers to buy their own body armor BUT allow after market armor to be added to soft skinned vehicles. In 2005,I saw plywood walls filled with sandbags stacked 3 to 4 feet above the center of gravity and overloading the steering gear. How many people died in single vehicle rollovers caused by after market armor vs. people that died from privately owned body armor?
As if this is something that was not being told to the military before. Why does it take so long to “investigate” such a high priority situation as this? My best guess is that the contractors of DOD materials pull a lot of “political strings” to keep supplying inferior products at the cost of soldier’s lives. Do a search on “dragon skin” here on M.C and you will see many previous articles on the military making soldiers shed their DS armor for the less effective crap they were supplying. Follow the money and as Morpheus said, “The truth will set you free.”
Well, I am not sure if you are pointing your finger at the right entity here.
MI does not make policy regarding purchasing Privately Owned Armor. I am thinking that this issue goes higher up the food chain. Now, if you are talking about specific MI units not allowing these purchases, then I can understand where you are coming from.
And yes, I have seen locally manufactured armor (like the plywood contraption you are talking about), but that is not after market armor, it is locally manufactured armor. After Market Armor are off the shelf, readily available armor that has been tested and does/or does not pass MIL Spec requirements.
Having crappy armor is a leadership issue. If your leaders are going to sit there and allow us to go to war without the proper equipment, then it is a serious lack of leadership on the part of people who are paid to make those decisions, but instead are nurturing their careers and waiting for that retirement check.
Don’t rock the boat you know.
I guess I am in a pretty cool Guard unit (lot of LE in it). And my leadership will not prevent me from using the best equipment available. I am not going to theater ever again with crappy armor.
I started with the Flak Jacket (about protection level 0 for rounds), bought an interceptor vest from a crooked Active Duty soldier (since we were not getting ours issued), put untested Iraqi Plates, bought some Israeli made ones and then, got some stand alone level IV from a Canadian manufacturer.
Next time I deploy, I am taking Dragon Skin, no matter what anybody says. I can take the court martial, but I cannot take the pine box.
