Helping Yourself Deal With Depression

Diseases and Conditions No Comments

Millions of people deal with depression every year. There are some things you can do to help yourself manage your depression in order to be able to function normally in your life. One of the first things you can do is to realize you are not alone. One of the main symptoms of depression is the feeling that you are drowning in your problems and that no one understands or can help. It’s so overwhelming that you feel is no stopping at. Knowing that others can help and will understand what can be the first step to helping yourself conquer depression.

Talking to friends, or your family can alleviate the stress and help you to realize that the problems you are facing are not as insurmountable as they feel. They can also help you feel loved when you feel most insignificant. Talking out your problems to others even if you know they can’t help your particular situation often helps you to deal with it yourself.
If you absolutely can’t find someone else to talk to, they can sometimes help to verbalize your problems there by talking it out with yourself. Sometimes our fears and our worries get so bottled up that they built up in our minds to much larger problems than they really are. Talking them out even to yourself can bring things into perspective.

If you feel uncomfortable talking to yourself about your problems write them down to the journal. Sometimes it helps to write out your feelings. You might be surprised at how much you begin to write once you start letting your emotions flow out.

Above all realize that it is okay to express your feelings. It’s okay to cry if you have to, it’s okay to feel happy, it’s okay to feel sad; all of these emotions are normal at expressions of your inner feelings and fears.

Another way to help deal with depression is to look at a situation with realistic goals. Sometimes we play so much stress on ourselves feeling we have to accomplish huge and lofty goals that are above and beyond just about every mortal. Setting realistic goals can greatly reduce the stress in your life.

If you have a large cast to accomplish a can create a lot of stress and tension and bring on depression if it isn’t going the way you think it should. Try breaking up your testing the smaller more manageable ones accomplishing each to get to your larger goal.
Exercise more. Exercising releases hormones into your body that helps to deal with stress and tension and alleviates depression. Getting rid of all the junk food and caffeine can also go a long way to making yourself feel good both physically and mentally.

Alcohol and nicotine are major depressives that add to feelings of inadequacy and depression. You can work out in your own home, join a gym, take a yoga class or anything that makes you feel good. And don’t forget the importance of getting enough sleep. Sleep also releases hormones into your body that alleviates stress and tension.

If you have a hobby or a long forgotten hobby this may be the perfect time to start it back up again. Having something that you enjoy doing to take your mind off it troubles and after a while make you realize how insignificant those problems really are.

Depression is treatable. There may be times when the above methods can help you deal with your depression and you can get through it on your own. It is important to remember that if your depression lasts for more than a week or isn’t alleviated by any of the above helps to seek the help of a Physician.

There’s no reason to live with depression. You are not to blame. Others will understand. You can get through it and if you need help you need to ask for it.

The Main Steps Involved In The Rehabilitation Treatment In Georgia

Diseases and Conditions No Comments

The rehabilitation treatment in Georgia is definitely one of the most elaborate forms of addiction treatment programs in the state. This treatment program is a complete program that includes both medicinal and non medicinal approaches in order to effectively bring the person out from the addiction into a fully recovered sober life. Naturally, this is not possible without concerted efforts and a systematic plan to make it happen. That is the reason why the rehabilitation treatment in Georgia works through a well laid out plan, which makes provisions for all the important elements that a suitable treatment program must require.

Though each treatment center in Georgia has their own approach towards rehabilitation treatment and there are definitely subtle differences in the ways different treatment plans work, the basic outline is more or less the same. The three main steps that are involved in any program for rehabilitation treatment in Georgia are the intervention, the detoxification and then the aftercare. Let us see in somewhat detail how these three arms of the program work.

The Intervention Process

Some people might not consider the intervention to be an active part of the treatment program, but it is definitely a vital element and a major part of the overall rehabilitation process. Basically, the intervention program is the phase of the treatment where the patient is not yet sure that he or she requires a treatment for their condition and is not willing to consider any options for the same. An intervention helps them to realize the seriousness of their condition and convinces them to get into some kind of treatment suitable to their condition.

Mostly, an intervention is carried out by the family of the patient because they have the most capacity to influence the patient. An intervention specialist may help the family. They may guide people from the family in what they must do and say to the patient so that they can bring them out of their denial. This is done by preparing various motivational speeches and speaking them out to the patient. Being people of the same family, the intervention group must also reassure the patient that they love them and want them to become addiction-free and live a meaningful life. Hence, the family helps the patient overcome the denial through encouragement and a display of genuine affection.

The Detoxification Process

Detoxification happens usually as the first part of the total treatment program. When the patient is detoxified the main aim there is to make the body of the patient free from all the toxins that may have lodged themselves in various parts of the body because of the addiction. This is certainly not an easy thing to do. The patient is first made to totally abstain from the substance.

In some time, which will depend on the nature and the extent of the person’s use of the substance, the body will begin to react, which will mostly be a measure of how strongly the body wants the person to take more of the substance. This will happen usually in 1 or 2 days after the substance consumption has been stopped. This aggressive reaction of the body is known as the withdrawal.

One of the most important parts of the detox program is to make the body come to terms with these withdrawal symptoms. This is done through a carefully planned out medicinal therapy, which again depends on the kind of the addiction the person is into.

The Aftercare Process

This will always follow the detox program in Georgia. While the detoxification program is a program for cleansing the body of the person, the aftercare treatment program is usually to maintain the treatment and to condition the mind into giving up the substance completely. This might take several weeks to several months depending on how heavily the person has been into the addiction.

The usual components of the aftercare that follows a rehabilitation treatment program in Georgia is to make the person understand the factors that might cause a re-addiction and to help them to avoid those factors from influencing them. They are also trained in various therapies that they can use in order to keep the temptation for the substance at bay.

One more important constituent of the aftercare program in Georgia is the inclusion of the family of the patient for the counseling process. Families are coached on how they can effectively deal with the addiction treatment for the patient and how they can monitor the person’s condition after they are back home, especially paying attention to avoiding the elements that can cause a relapse.

Everything You Need To Know About Yeast Infections

Diseases and Conditions No Comments

If you suspect you’re suffering from a vaginal yeast infection then you’ll be joining 75% of women who suffer at least one infection in their lifetime. Although a high percentage of women suffer from yeast infections men can also suffer as the usually harmless Candida Albicans yeast lives in and on everyone from a very early age.

There are over 20 types of infections with the most popular being caused by the Candida yeast. And along with the many types of infections come many ways to cure yourself. Conventional over the counter drugs and medications are the most popular form of treatment, but these are slowly being replaced with natural cures as more men and women are turning their back on drugs to treat fungal infections.

Where drugs just attack the yeast, natural remedies work with your body to fight the yeast and strengthen your body’s natural defences.

The Candida yeast will usually attack a warm moist area on the human body. This is the reason why women are infected a lot more than men as the vagina is the warmest and moistest area on the body. Other areas are that are commonly infected are the mouth, under folds of skin., and feet

Babies can also suffer from a yeast infection, and this is commonly known as diaper rash. People that wear ill fitting dentures are also susceptible to mouth thrush.

The mutated Candida fungus can also infect the intestines, and if left untreated or not treated correctly this can lead to the bloodstream being infected. The mutated fungus will attach itself to the walls of the intestines in the same way it attaches itself to your skin or the inside of your mouth. The yeast will then burrow it’s way through the walls of your intestines until it perforates them and makes it’s way into your bloodstream.

Infections on the outside of the body are easily diagnosed by your doctor, but intestinal yeast infections are very rarely diagnosed as there is no know medical cure. There are also too many symptoms associated with intestinal yeast to pinpoint the cause of them.

If you suspect you’re suffering from an infection caused by the mutated Candida fungus then you need to see your doctor for a correct diagnosis. If you self diagnose yourself and get the diagnosis wrong you have the risk of another bacterial infection being treated incorrectly.

An incorrect diagnosis of a vaginal infection can lead to damage of your reproductive organs. Once a correct diagnosis has eventually been made after a number of unsuccessful treatments it can be too late.

It’s much better to be safe than sorry so a doctors appointment should be made as soon as possible.

Some Concepts On Addiction Treatment In Colorado Cleared

Diseases and Conditions No Comments

If you are planning addiction treatment in Colorado for yourself or for someone in your family, then you will probably be conducting a lot of research on the Internet to know about what options you have for treatment and how it is conducted. This is all quite well, but you must know that there are several concepts that you need to know about if you want to understand the program for addiction treatment in Colorado. This is an explanation of some concepts relating to the addiction treatment program in this state.

Difference between Substance Abuse and Substance Addiction

Most people use the words “abuse” and “addiction” interchangeably, but the fact of the matter is that there is a lot of difference between these two terms. When a person is into a substance abuse, the person is using the substance only occasionally, but on those occasions, the person is going beyond acceptable limits of usage. When the person is not using the substance, he or she is perfectly normal and even performing their tasks effectively.

Substance addiction, on the other hand, is total dependency. A person who is into substance addiction will not be able to do without the substance even for a short period of time. The entire waking hours of the person will be spent in how to acquire the substance and use it for recreation. Hence, a person who is into substance addiction will actively think about the substance even when he or she is not using it.

In that manner, substance addiction seems to be more serious than substance abuse, and it is quite right too. But the social repercussions of both of them could be the same. The person who is into an abuse might be a menace to society during those episodes when he or she is under the influence. That could be just as bad as coming from a person who is into substance addiction.

Treatment methods for people who are into substance addiction in Colorado are more stringent than those that are used for people into substance abuse. However, treatment is definitely available and needed in both cases.

Difference between Detox and Rehab

Again, these two are terms that most people think mean one and the same thing. The simple logic is that both are parts of the addiction treatment program in Colorado. However, this is definitely not the case. If you understand what these two mean, you will see that they are as unlike as chalk and cheese.

Detox is the name for the program in which the person’s body is cleansed from the accumulation of the toxins that the addictive substance might have caused. This is done by first making the person abstain from the substance which then causes a withdrawal. In order to treat the withdrawal and to make the person lose the temptation for the substance, the person is provided some maintenance treatment. A normal detox program in Colorado can last from three days to up to three weeks, which will mostly depend on the nature and extent of the person’s dependency and also on the policies of the treatment center.

Rehab, on the other hand, is a complete program that helps bring the person out of the addiction and into a sober life. This is a much elaborate program that can go on for quite a long time. It usually follows a detox treatment program. When the person has been detoxified, the rehab treatment begins as a means of aftercare. In rehab, the person will be given some sort of maintenance medication in order to keep the temptation of the substance away.

Then there will be a complete counseling program for the patient and the family members of the patient. The patient will be coached on how to deal with the cravings for the substance and the family members will be trained on how to become able supports for the patient to bring them out from the addiction and how to cope with the addiction itself. Families might have to attend a short training course too, mainly to equip them in dealing with the addiction condition.

Patients might be trained in certain meditation and relaxation methods too, which can help in answering the urge for the substance if it occurs. Most of these rehab programs will also counsel patients on how they can become an effective part of their societies once again and even take up a job if they are interested because these are the things that will actually cure their addiction and bring them into a normal constructive and meaningful life.

Addicted Or Criminal — How To Know The Difference And Help A Loved One

Diseases and Conditions No Comments

Drug addicts & alcoholics can commit crimes, even against their own family. How to know the difference between social and anti-social addiction and help your loved ones who truly deserve your help is vital. How do you monitor or test to see how to best help them?

Most addicts were and are good people. A drug addict or alcoholic can make some pretty major mistakes that cause great harm and upset to those who love them. Sometimes a drug addict will damage others property and commit crimes. Regardless of the motive, these acts are wrong.

When working with an addict who has been harming others, dealing drugs or being destructive of ones best laid plans, you have to consider several things.

A. Does this person want to get better?
B. Is this person a criminal, hiding behind addiction?

In Vancouver, BC where I live, drug addicts who commit crimes are treated like mentally challenged individuals who don’t know right from wrong. Repeat criminal offenders are given parole they don’t follow, time and time again by the judiciary who let them off from crimes against property.

In one case, a repeat criminal offender, had seen a court room over 50 times. He had been arrested over 50 times for criminal offenses and been paroled every time. He never even visited his parole officer (PO). As Vancouver hadn’t any monitoring system for parolees, no one knew.

Vancouver Police claim the majority of property crime committed in Vancouver is committed by a rather small group of repeat offenders or career criminals. I’ve had my windows in my truck smashed in many times, so a drug addict could scrounge through for the $2 in change hidden in the cab. The repair bills cost me $300 / window. I estimate $1,000s of dollars of income has been lost to these criminal acts. It makes one bitter toward criminals. But should I lump all addicts within these career criminal type of actions?

Addicts come in basically two varieties, when it comes to criminal actions.

One: those caught up in addiction and wanting to get out of their self imposed trap.

Two: people seeing their destructive actions on others and themselves, desire to numb themselves with drugs or alcohol so as to continue to destroy. The majority of anti-social acts are committed by the second group.

I’ll be dealing with the first group only. The second group actually wants your efforts to help them fail. They quietly smile when they relapse. Your success in helping drug addicts or alcoholics will be in distinguishing between these two types of people. Turn the second group over to the police.

Sometimes one can mistake those in group one with those in group two. This can cause considerable upsets in someone who is addicted. Ex. The addicted person now feels rejected by family, worthless, like garbage, etc. simply because they are addicted. These people need help, not further rejection.

Mistaking a person in group 2 with someone in group one will hurt you. They will steal from you again and again, put you through hell and make you feel like it is your entire fault.

People in group one hurt themselves and may make mistakes.

People in group two hurt everyone and will continue to hurt others. The people in group two are the career criminals, violent offenders and family destroyers. Help the police to get them out of society so they can’t harm society any further.

How can a family member see the difference between the two? Let’s focus on group one and leave group two to the police, shall we.

People caught up in addiction can commit criminal acts to pay for their addiction. The will feel considerable regret and usually cave in on themselves when they have to face you or their counter-survival actions. These small or large crimes may result in their developing a self-worthless attitude (despised).

If the people in this group are given an honest opportunity to recover from this hell they are trapped in, they will take that opportunity. Often they will need a professional interventionist to assist them to get to rehab. The addict can mistake themselves to be in that second group as well and therefore not want to place more burden on the family.

Their main objection to rehab will be because they feel worthless for the wrongs they have done. These people need your help to get them moving toward recovery.
while they are clear headed enough to understand. Simply, if they truly feel bad about their actions, there is some hope.

If their actions are cold and calculated, designed to hurt and harm, you’re looking at anti-social motivations.

Differentiating these two types of individual motivations, social and anti-social, will greatly assist you in avoiding a big mistake and gaining a very satisfactory friend for life.

How To Effectively Choose A Heroin Rehab Program in Hawaii

Diseases and Conditions No Comments

You might think that heroin treatment is of only one kind and that might be giving you the confidence for going right ahead and planning a treatment for someone in your family with a heroin addiction, but you must know that there are various subtle differences in the heroin treatments provided by different centers. You have to only look at the heroin rehab program in Hawaii to understand these differences. Each center has a different program and even if the name of the program is the same, there are differences that might make one program suitable for your condition but not another.

Hence when you are planning a heroin rehab program in Hawaii for someone you care for, you have to keep some important things in mind. Here is a list of the things that you must consider when planning heroin treatment:-

What Heroin Treatment Program to Choose?

There are two main heroin treatment programs used in Hawaii. One of them uses the methadone treatment while the other uses the buprenorphine treatment. Both these treatment programs have their differences and both of them may be good or bad for you. Methadone is a treatment mode that has existed in Hawaii for over three decades now, while buprenorphine is still becoming popular after being approved by the FDA for heroin treatment only recently. But there are differences in the ways these programs work on your body. Make sure you educate yourself well on how these programs will work and then make your decision.

The best place to find out more about these different treatment programs is not the state health website of Hawaii but a federal website on substance abuse such as that of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, National Institute of Drug Abuse or National Clearinghouse. These websites have complete sections detailing how these two forms of treatment are provided and who can benefit with what kind of program. Make your choice only after reading this.

Which Rehab Center to Choose?

A lot of how the heroin rehab program in Hawaii will progress will depend on what treatment center you choose. Since every rehab center will work in different ways and focus on different aspects, it is important for you to be knowledgeable about this. Once you have located a heroin rehab center in your vicinity through the phone directory or the Internet or by asking a counselor for substance abuse treatment in Hawaii, it is your main job to check out the website of the center. Read about their treatment program there. This will tell you how they implement their programs and whether the patient will find it suitable or not.

You have to check the licensing and accreditation of the treatment center too. Remember that it is not enough if the center has only a general license for addiction treatment in Hawaii. It is necessary that it is specially qualified for heroin addiction treatment. You have to also see who the affiliates of the treatment center are. Having more affiliates, especially those that are federally well distributed, speaks a lot about the genuineness of the program.

What to Look for in the Treatment Providers?

Just as the treatment center is important when you are selecting a heroin rehab program in Hawaii, the treatment providers at the center are also important. You have to make sure that these treatment providers are well qualified for heroin addiction treatment. They must ideally have licensing from a federal institute such as the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

You have to also make sure that these treatment providers are experienced in handling heroin addiction treatment before because mere qualifications are not enough in cases of severe addictions. Hands-on experience is vitally important. Check up on how much experience they have.

What Facilities should be Present in the Heroin Rehab Program in Hawaii?

If you have taken care to choose a good treatment center, it will have all the facilities that are needed for heroin treatment. However, there are two things that you must especially look for. The first is facility for detox treatment. Heroin addiction always needs detoxification treatment, so this facility will be there, but make sure to check up on it. The other is nursing care. Heroin treatment is definitely a sensitive addiction treatment and you need special nursing care and counseling to bring the patient out of it to a measurable degree. Find out whether you will get this at the treatment center you are choosing.

Methamphetamine And Its Addiction Treatment In Idaho

Diseases and Conditions No Comments

Over the last decade, methamphetamine addiction has risen to monstrous heights in Idaho. The program of addiction treatment in Idaho has been modified several times over the years in order to incorporate treatment for severe forms of addiction, like the amphetamine addiction that methamphetamine can cause.

Why is Methamphetamine Addiction such a Big Problem in Idaho?

It is true that methamphetamine is one of the most severely addictive drugs present in the world today. It can give an almost immediate high, which is definitely quicker than the high produced by any other substance in the world. As soon as a person consumes methamphetamine, the substance triggers the brain to release pleasure inducing chemicals, which contribute to the sense of euphoria called as the meth rush which users crave for. But the more serious aspect of this is meth can make the person totally dependent on itself. Once a person experiences the high that methamphetamine can produce, it is highly unlikely that the person will be able to feel pleasure in any other way. In other words, the person will always seek methamphetamine to create the sense of pleasure.

A bigger danger looms large with the issue of methamphetamine addiction in Idaho. This drug is mostly consumed by people of a younger age in this state. The main users are teenagers and people in their early twenties. This preponderance creates its own problems. One, because people of a younger age are using this substance, it is highly likely that they will become hardcore addicts of the substance in a short period of time. This is definitely the case because the younger a person starts with an addiction, the higher are the chances that they will sustain it forever. Also, it becomes just as much difficult to bring the people out of the addiction if they start young.

Most people in Idaho use methamphetamine in group places such as in nightclubs and parties. This is dangerous in itself. When people collectively use methamphetamine, there is a strong likelihood that they will indulge in promiscuous activities, fueled by the high that the substance produces. And when they are doing so under the influence of a very strong substance like methamphetamine, there is a very bleak chance that they will use any form of protection. As a supplementary threat, methamphetamine is increasing the risk of AIDS and other forms of sexually transmitted infections in the state.

How is Methamphetamine Addiction Treatment in Idaho Conducted?

Keeping all these points in mind, it is quite understandable why meth addiction treatment in Idaho needs to follow different patterns. For one, this form of treatment needs to be much stricter as compared to other programs. This does not mean the program has to be strict for the patients, but it definitely has to be more intense.

An example is seen in the detox program. While the other detox programs in the state are completed within a week mostly, methamphetamine detox in Idaho can go on to up to three weeks. This is because the substance will keep causing a withdrawal for a long time and the person will find it very difficult to come out of it. The traditional medicines are all not so effective in allaying the strong withdrawal that meth causes. This makes the detox very difficult.

The second difficulty is in the care and counseling program that follows the detox treatment. There are several reasons why this is difficult. The first reason is the age of the patients where it becomes difficult to explain to them why the addiction is bad and why they must be devoted to the treatment. It is not easy to bring people out of the strong feeling of false euphoria that methamphetamine creates. The solution for this is to completely isolate the patient from all kinds of familiar surroundings and people so that the treatment has effect.

Hence, meth rehab centers are different from centers for other kinds of addiction treatment in Idaho in most cases. These centers will focus on isolating the patient in an inpatient care format where first a detox program will be conducted and that will be followed with a long aftercare treatment program that will help bring the patient completely out of the addiction and into a sustainable mode of recovery. The help of the family and friends will be enlisted at a later stage, because they can be useful in administering control over the patient when they are out of the treatment center and back home.

Substance Abuse In Florida - A Mental Condition?

Diseases and Conditions No Comments

Check out the addiction treatment program in Florida and you will find how much emphasis is laid on the concept of substance abuse being a mental condition. Today, substance abuse in Florida is considered to be on par with other conventionally known mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder, anxiety disorder, stress disorder, depression, schizophrenia, hallucinations, phobias, etc. Just as these ailments reside in the mind and control the person from that dominating center, even substance abuse is believed to be a controller of the user’s body from a point within the brain.

Why is Substance Abuse in Florida considered to be a Mental Illness?

For years, various approaches had been forwarded by experts to explain why substance abuse makes a person so captivated by it the way it does. Till about a decade ago, substance abuse in Florida was still thought to be a habit, just as any other simple habit that a person might suffer from. It was believed that in a highly controlled environment, the person will be able to come out of this “habit” completely. That was the approach to addiction treatment anyway. People who were under various forms of addiction were subjected to torturous punishments in treatment centers when they were not able to keep away from using the substance because substance abuse was considered to be no more than a “habit” and the general belief was that all habits can definitely be controlled.

However, today the situation has changed drastically. Today we know that substance abuse is not a mere “habit”. It is something even larger than a dependency though we name it as that most of the time. When a person consumes a particular addictive substance, it might trigger the brain to release some pleasure inducing hormones. This is what creates the rush of emotions in the person which he or she begins to enjoy immensely.

Once this rush is produced, it is recorded in the right centers of the brain. Some time later, the brain will want to duplicate that feeling. This is when the brain sends messages that it wants more of the substance. This leads the person to obtain more of the same drug and use it to experience that heady feeling.

This is the cycle that keeps continuing now. The brain asks for more of the substance, the body provides it, the brain gets the euphoric sensation and sometime later it asks for more of the substance. If the body is not able to give the substance to the brain when it asks, it may react in violent ways, which is what withdrawal is all about.

The Dangers of Substance Abuse being a Mental Condition

The whole point here is that being a mental condition, substance abuse is much more difficult to treat. A habitual tendency can be easily controlled with some measure of strictness. But that is not possible in the case of the mental dependency that substance abuse creates. Over time, the brain will want to have more and more of the substance, and the body will be forced to give it. The person will begin overstepping the dosage and a time will come when the person will not know that amount of the substance being used is now getting in fatally deep waters. This is what we commonly call as an overdose.

Being a mental condition, substance abuse is much more difficult to treat. It is difficult to shake a habit that gets so deeply ingrained in the person’s body and mind. Also, if the substance abuse is tried to be treated earlier, there’s a much higher chance of complete recovery than later. This is, of course, another evidence that substance abuse is a mental condition.

How is Substance Abuse in Florida treated?

In the light of substance abuse being a mental condition, the treatment program in Florida for it is much stricter and focuses a lot on the mental aspect of the addiction. You can see an example of that with the dual diagnosis treatment program in which the person is treated simultaneously for the addiction as well as for an underlying coexisting condition which could very well be a mental problem. In such treatment methods, the treatment oscillates between treating the person for the addiction and for the coexisting condition.

Even in a single treatment approach, substance abuse is treated with care and counseling just as a mental condition would be handled. There is a detox treatment, but this is always followed by a lengthy aftercare program which would help the patient in really coming out of the addiction and into a life of complete sobriety.

The Real Reasons Why You’re Suffering From Acid Reflux

Diseases and Conditions No Comments

Acid Reflux ( GERD ) is a chronic ailment that has many causes. Many people continue to suffer with the symptoms for years without knowing the real cause of their heart burn, and they continue eating antacids like sweets not realizing that they could be masking a more serious problem.

Just suffering from heart burn twice a week is a sign that there is something wrong with your diet, lifestyle, eating habits and/or intestinal health. Indigestion is given the name heartburn because of the burning sensation you suffer behind the breast bone. This sensation usually occurs after eating.

There are two main reasons that acid reflux will happen to certain individuals. The first and most common reason is too much acid in the stomach. This can often be brought on by eating the wrong types of foods which is usually foods high in fat or spicy foods. The second most common reason is a weakened Lower Esophageal Sphincter ( LES ).

The LES is the muscle at the opening of your stomach that allows food and drink to flow into your stomach, and then it closes to prevent it coming back out of the top. In cases of a weakened LES the contents of the stomach come back out of the stomach and the acid causes the burning in the esophagus.

The over activity of Candida yeast in the intestines can cause access acid in the stomach, and weaken your whole digestive process. Candida is an organism that is kept under control by friendly bacteria in your intestines, but if it’s allowed to take control then problems will occur. One of those being acid reflux

Poor eating habits will contribute to the over acidity of the stomach, and will cause heartburn on a regular basis. Foods such as chocolate, spicy foods, foods high in fat and tomatoes are big causes or acid reflux.

Natural Cure For Ovarian Cyst That Get Results

Diseases and Conditions No Comments

A natural cure to ovarian cysts works excellently and is a great alternative to conventional medical treatment, particularly when the fact is that, conventional drugs often fall flat when it comes to delivering a cure. Though conventional methods are more popular, but without much positive results. However, the very pitfalls in the procedures of the treatment and its failure in addressing the basic problem have made ovarian cyst natural cures gain in popularity in recent years. Also, decades of research in natural remedies have provided confidence to the people to trust a system to work wonders with its treatment approach, particularly when treating complicated conditions such as ovarian cysts.

Understanding ovarian cysts

Ovarian cysts are seen in women who are having their menstrual cycles and this is actually quite common. In most cases, there is nothing in ovarian cysts to cause alarm, however malignant cysts can still lead to fatalities. Thus, even if the cyst does not cause much of a problem in most cases, but you should still not take a chance and opt for treatment. Often women complain that there is severe cramps and pain during menstruation; this is when and also while the pelvic region is inspected, is when ovarian cysts are mostly found out.

Ovarian cysts are formed when fluids get deposited over time, and it is surrounded by a thin membrane, found in the ovary. The cyst itself can be big or small in size, and this depends on how much of the fluid has become deposited. Also, it can be either benign or malignant. The cysts that are benign in nature go away themselves with no treatment, but there are some malignant cysts that are quite serious and in some rare cases may even become fatal. However the good news is, natural cures are available for benign ovarian cysts. Cancerous cysts are required to be removed surgically.

Ovarian cysts: the causes

There are many causes of ovarian cysts. Actually, there are quite a few contributing factors that lead to the cysts getting formed, and these factors are not only medical, but also lifestyle related and physical. Also, what actually makes them happen can vary from one person to another. Individual cases should be referred to specialists urgently, so that the treatment may proceed correctly. Some common ovarian cyst causes include insulin resistance, a weakened immune system, genetic predisposition, getting exposed to environmental toxins, and individual lifestyles.

Avail of natural cure

Luckily, there are quite a few natural cure options for ovarian cysts. Some of these therapies are done through medication and herbs, there are others that target specific problems to the individual and this is done while medicines are prescribed to the person, changes in the lifestyle, and also the diet plan. How well such cures work also depend on how severe the problem is. Treatment and prevention works best if these cysts are not cancerous. Yes, cancerous cysts can be managed with the natural approach, but it works better if applied at the earliest stage, before it becomes uncontrollable.

The natural cure may also vary depending on the treatment. Thus, it is important to decide the person to be approached, because such treatments are not static, as they are with conventional remedies. But some ovarian cyst natural cures are based more on superstitions and misconceptions, rather than being based on science.

The fact is, there are many who practice such natural cures, because they are not knowledgeable enough of the scientific means of curing the condition. Ovarian cyst Natural cures however, do not prove ideally effective in curing the disease condition. The best way to recovery lies in adding holistic approach to herbal medication.

Holistic healing

The holistic approach may indeed be more effective in case of ovarian cysts, because it goes beyond the parameters of the supplements and herbs to eradicate the cause of the disease condition. The holistic approach is not restricted when it comes to the treatment. Actually, the approach explains how to apply the treatment. And thus, it is multidimensional.

Holistic approach has no limitations that restrict the effectiveness of the other natural as well as conventional cures. The fact is, the holistic approach treats the body as a whole and delves deeper to try and identify all the key contributing factors that cause the condition. And thus, the problem solving approach is comprehensive as all these contributing factors are challenged. With this approach, the practitioner is able to identify each factor and then deal with it individually. And thus with the treatment, all these contributing factors can be brought under control or eradicated. This is why, the ovarian cyst never returns once it has been treated with the holistic approach.

Proven Herbal Treatment For Ovarian Cysts

Diseases and Conditions No Comments

Ovarian cysts are an accumulation of fluid that happen within the ovary and this is encircles by a thin wall. Any ovarian follicle that is larger than 2 cm can be said to be a cyst in the ovary. They could be as small as a pea, or as big as a cantaloupe.

In most of the cases, the ovarian cysts are functional and are basically harmless. In fact in the US, they are present in almost every female before her menopause and also in 14.8% of all females who have reached that stage in her life. Ovarian Carcinoma is a disease that is also seen in about 15 cases out of 100000 in a year. Currently, thousands of affected people are opting for herbal treatments across the world to cure their ovarian cysts.

Ovarian cysts affect women of all ages. But they occur in most cases at the stage of life when she can have a baby. In some cases the cysts give rise to problems, such as bleeding and pain and may have to be surgically removed.

How to treat them

Cysts in the ovary have today become a major reason for excessive bleeding, infertility and pain. Though they are mostly benign, but we would recommend a test for ensuring this. The most practised method of treating them is through surgery. But in some cases, surgery cannot be carried out and in fact it is not the feasible option, and it is not desirable too. Plus, there are side effects of surgery too. For example, surgery may lead to the cysts coming back again. An alternative method is the “Synthetic Hormone Therapy”. Many women are advised to go for hysterectomy as well. These days however, many people are opting for herbal treatments and there are strong reasons why they are doing so.

It takes anything between 3 months to 6 months for the cyst to be 100% removed with the herbal approach. But it depends on the size and also on the number of cysts the person has. The patient will also need to support and clean the liver when the treatment is going on because this is necessary to regulate the hormone levels; it also cleans the blood. The diet also plays an important part here. There are some food items that can make the condition worse and so they need to be avoided; this is why the diet is so crucial.

Foods

Foods that are important to counter recurrence and lessen the discomfort are whole grains, garlic, fruits, legumes and plenty of green and raw vegetables. The items that need to be avoided are processed and refined foods, red meat, caffeine, eggs, alcohol, fat, white sugar and carbonated beverages. Do physical exercise and eat a balanced and natural diet to fight cysts.

From the 2nd week to the menstruation cycle

Here is a herbal treatment that can be useful in this period. It has 3 capsules of vitex & black cohosh, 2 capsules of dandelion root & black haw, 1 capsule that has bee pollen, pau d`arco and chaparral. Take this 2 times in a day. Take this from the 2nd week after the cycle till the period begins again.

From the beginning of mens to the 2nd week

In this period you will need to take it in this combination - 3 capsules of a blue & black cohosh & milk thistle, 2 capsules of “wild yam”, 1 capsule of chaparral, yarrow, bee pollen and pau d`arco. This also has to be taken twice daily.

Please remember to supplement these medicines with vitamins A, E and C.

These therapies need to be alternately used for a period of 3 months, and for up to an year. The severity of your problem and the length of time it has continued for will decide how long you have to keep taking these. Do remember that this is just for general suggestion.

Holistic approach

The best approach however are holistic remedies. Medicines that are based on herbs work even better if the holistic approach is followed with it. It can be safely stated that holistic approach is the most effective. Actually there cannot be any parallels to it.

While in the conventional approach, diagnosis and treatment is carried out, in the holistic approach, importance is given to achieving a healthy body, mind and spirit, and when this is achieved, the cysts cannot get formed. The holistic approach also attempts to find out all the causes because of which the cysts are formed in the first place and then treats all of them. Not only is this approach more effective, is actually leads to quicker relief and that too with little medical intervention.

Education is the first and the most important step to achieving a cure for ovarian cysts. This is because only when the patient knows what the problems are she can take an active part in the healing process; researchers agree to this approach. She is reassured that ovarian cysts are nothing abnormal, particularly in the reproductive years. The fact that they are quite normal and does not cause too much harm is made very clear to her early on. The abnormalities are explained and the warnings are also discussed with the woman. The holistic approach together with herbal treatments does indeed provide the best results.

Diagnosing Ovarian Cysts Is Crucial To Your Health

Diseases and Conditions No Comments

The need to diagnose cysts in the ovary is the most important part of its treatment as it is almost impossible to find a cure id the proper diagnosis is not carried out. And their diagnosis could be difficult if the warning signals have been ignored.

The principal problem lies in the fact that women suffering from cysts could have few or even no symptoms at all. However, we would like to tell you that there are usually little pointers which should alert you to the presence of cysts in your body. The condition may also be diagnosed in different ways. For this latter, you will have to know about the various ways of diagnosis so that you can yourself asses your condition.

Why Diagnose

You need to ensure that you opt for the most effective treatment and to make this possible, you have to diagnose the cyst. And also, it is only through diagnosis that a patient can decide on the treatment to be perused in the future. If diagnosis of the cyst is not made timely, and proper treatment started, complications could arise even though generally, ovarian cysts do not cause much problems.

What many women do is try out medicines on themselves and opt for home remedies for treating the cysts without getting diagnosed properly. This is dangerous because there is no standard treatment process that is practiced by medical science for various kinds of cysts and inadequate treatment based on inept diagnosis could lead to problems. Therefore, the proper diagnosis is of the essence when treating this condition.

Self-Diagnosis

Diagnosing cysts in the ovary medically becomes much easier when the patient is mindful of the ovarian cyst symptoms in then beginning stages. Actually, many women visit medical practitioners because they feel that there are possibilities of cysts having formed within them, after having taken stock of their condition through a process of self-diagnosis. Such cases of self-diagnosis can be carried out based on some symptoms that commonly occur among people who are victims of ovarian cysts.

Some commonly seen symptoms are

1) Irregularity in menstruation: Those who suffer from ovarian cysts often have menstruation cycles that are not regular. Sometimes the periods get deferred by months and sometimes there is either too much blood or very little of it.

2) Pelvic Pain: For no reason the pelvic region may pain constantly: this is another symptom.

3) Infertility: If a woman is infertile, this may be a symptom of cyst in the ovary. Many women carrying the cyst may become temporarily infertile. There may also be miscarriages.

4) Body Structure Change: Cysts in the body affect hormones and this leads to side effects such as obesity. In many women there are rapid changes too.

5) Hoarseness in Voice and Facial Hair: Some hormones may lead to this when there are cysts in the ovary.

6) Affecting The Bladder: The cysts may pressurize the bladder and this may lead to regular urination and even the desire for it.

7) Other Symptoms: Pain while having sex, nausea, vomiting, tenderness in the breast, cramps, acne, pain, weakness and dizziness are some other symptoms.

Sometimes, self diagnosis of the cysts is not possible as they are not accompanied by any symptoms whatsoever. In such instances, diagnosis is done accidentally. It takes place usually during a routine examination using ultrasound or a pelvic test of the person. But final diagnosis can only be confirmed once the diagnostic and the scientific tests have been carried out. Then again, the symptoms may not be the same for everyone so anything that is not normal in terms of your gynecological situation should be checked always.

What to do once the diagnosis is done

After ovarian cysts have been diagnosed, the treatments have to be started immediately. However in many cases, the cyst will improve without any medical intervention. But in many cases, extensive medical help is required.

Conventional medication is of course, always an option but this type of medication does not necessarily succeed in properly tackling the condition. This happens because conventional medication is not equipped to tackle all forms of ovarian cysts. They cannot totally eradicate the reason why the cyst gets formed, and so you will continue to be troubled by it because it will not be defeated completely. It is essential therefore that, once diagnosed, you try out alternative treatment forms to get a cure fast.

The holistic approach has been very successfully in curing ovarian cysts. Once the cyst has been diagnosed, you will need to consult a holistic practitioner who will then tell you what the real causes are. The practitioner is able to go deep into the subject and know the nature and the characteristics of the formation. This done, he can then suggest the correct treatment. Being multidimensional, the holistic approach can effectively remove the cyst and prevents any recurrence too.

The Correlation Between Mental Illness And Substance Abuse In Rhode Island

Diseases and Conditions No Comments

If you check out the health website of the state of Rhode Island, you will find that there is a very strong correlation between substance abuse and mental illnesses. In fact, substance abuse in Rhode Island is considered to be nothing more or less than a psychiatric problem and as you read further on their health website, you will find that even the treatment program chalked out for it is in accordance with this belief. Treatment for substance abuse in Rhode Island is of a similar form and manner as it should be for some kind of mental illness. So, how far is this consideration valid?

Is Substance Abuse a Mental Illness?

For this, we need to analyze the way the body works when a person starts using a substance for recreational purposes. This is how most of them work:-

When a person consumes the substance, the substance will send triggers to the nervous system of the body, which will then increase the secretion of some chemicals that are important for the feeling of happiness that the body experiences, most notably dopamine. The main draw during the initial abuse of the substance is this production of dopamine. The person is consuming the substance actually to condition the mind to release dopamine so that that feeling of pleasure can be experienced.

Now, as the person begins consuming more and more of the substance, the mental system of the person gets immunized and does not secrete as much dopamine as it did in the earlier instances. Consequently, the person begins stepping up the dosage of the substance. This is the beginning of the unbroken cycle of addiction; the person consumes a drug to make the mind happy, but the mind is dissatisfied with that particular amount and asks more of it.

If you consider this now, you will find that the urge for consuming the substance occurs right in the brain of the person. Though the person is physically consuming the substance, the part of the body that is asking for it is the brain and the nervous system. Hence, it does seem quite logical to pair substance abuse with mental illnesses.

So how is the Treatment for Substance Abuse in Rhode Island carried out on These Lines?

If substance abuse in Rhode Island is considered as a mental illness, it is quite understandable that the treatment will be done in a similar fashion too. That is indeed the case and it is quite a helpful one at that, considering that it becomes more effective at the overall treatment. Consider the following points:-

1. The detox program, though very prominently present and used for most kinds of addiction in Rhode Island, is not the end of the treatment program. In fact, if you check out the patterns on substance abuse treatment in Rhode Island, you will find that detox is merely the beginning of the entire treatment program. While the detox aims at cleansing the body of the person from the accumulation of the substances in it, it is the later part of the treatment program that is the most relevant part. This is the part where the person is taken into a counseling therapy. The counseling is targeted at helping the person come out of the tendency of using the substance. This is definitely a method of treating the mind rather than the body.

2. If you were to check out the various therapies that are taught during the relapse prevention program in any rehab center in Rhode Island, you will see that there is definitely a focus on treating the mind. People are taught meditation and relaxation exercises to free their mind from the shackles of the addiction. In fact, in a residential treatment center in Rhode Island, you will find that the major bulk of the program consists of treating the patients in this manner.

3. There is actually a program that deals with treating the body and the mind together during substance abuse treatment in Rhode Island. This is the dual diagnosis program. Basically speaking, the dual diagnosis treatment program is meant for the treatment of coexisting conditions, but in the realm of substance abuse treatment in Rhode Island, it is mostly applies to the treatment of mental illnesses that occur along with substance abuse (which incidentally is also a mental illness). Here, the patient will be provided psychiatric counseling and the treatment for both conditions will be done on an almost simultaneous footing. This is a clear example of how substance abuse is considered to be a mental illness in the state treatment program in Rhode Island.

Understanding The Detoxification Treatment In Delaware

Diseases and Conditions No Comments

Detoxification is one of the most important elements of the entire addiction treatment program in Delaware. Detoxification treatment in Delaware is all about cleansing the body of the person from the various toxins in it that may have collected during the addicted phase of life.

These toxins are usually the metabolic products of the addictive substances and they may remain in specific organs of the body or they can spread out all over the body. For example, when we speak about alcohol addiction, the toxins are various products that alcohol can cause in the body and it can collect in special areas of the body such as the kidneys and the liver, though a measureable amount will be present in the bloodstream of the person also.

The main function of the detox treatment in Delaware is to remove all these toxins. Let us now see the various aspects of this treatment program.

How is a Detoxification Treatment in Delaware conducted?

Whether the addiction is of alcohol or of methamphetamine, the first step in detox treatment in Delaware is to make the patient abstain completely from the substance. This is done in a controlled inpatient setting to ensure that the person does not take the substance on the sly. When the person is genuinely abstaining from the substance, the body of the person is bound to react. This reaction is due to the strong urge for the substance that will be created in the body. The person will find an uncontrollable desire to have the substance again and several aggressive physical and mental symptoms might be observed.

This condition sets in within 24 to 36 hours of abstaining from the substance. It may take longer if the addiction is at a mild stage. This is the condition known as withdrawal.

The treatment providers now have to control the withdrawal and lessen the discomfort the person is feeling so that the person may keep on abstaining from the substance. This is done by providing specific medication to the person (specific because it depends from one type of addiction to another). Most of this medication, such as methadone in heroin treatment, is used to suppress the urges of the substance of addiction, while a few of them could be nothing more than antidepressants and painkillers designed to reduce the withdrawal symptoms. The detox treatment in Delaware continues till all the withdrawal symptoms subside.

What are the Uses of the Detoxification Treatment in Delaware?

Cleansing the body from the addiction is definitely the primary use of the detox treatment. But there are some other things that it targets too.

When the body has any trace of the substance present in it, it is very difficult to bring it out of the addiction. As long as the addictive substance is present in the body, there will always be an urge for more of it. This can cause the body to stay within the addiction and will make it very difficult for the person to recover completely. The treatment providers understand this. Hence in cases where there is a strong form of addiction, they will try to remove the substance from the body completely so that it no longer feels the urges for the substance and can come out of the addiction effectively.

There might be other ways to stop the person from using the substance or at least to come down to using it to an extent that might be considered as within reasonably healthy limits. However, even with that, it is necessary to remove the substance from the body. If that is not done, then even years later the accumulated toxins can cause serious health complications. This is seen in the case of alcohol addiction where cirrhosis of the liver is known to be caused even years after a person has managed to cut down the alcoholism habit to an acceptable level.

Detoxification seems to be the only way to help the body come out of these problems.

Is the Detoxification Treatment in Delaware a Complete Program?

Though the detox treatment program in Delaware is clearly a very important program, it must be noted that it is not a complete program within itself. What the detoxification will try to do is to cleanse the body from the addictive substance, but for the addiction to really go away, it is necessary to take the temptation for the substance away from the mind. Though the detoxification can help in part to achieve this, it is not a treatment format that’s targeted towards that end. For that reason, the detoxification treatment in Delaware is always followed by an extensive aftercare treatment program.

Visit detoxification treatment in Delaware in order to read more on this subject and others related to addiction treatment in the state.

Two Recent Studies Released About Oral Care

Diseases and Conditions No Comments

Do you feel like you have a lot of stress? If you’re like most people these days, you claim to be over stressed due to work, kids, bills, and more. We all know that stress affects our overall well being, but did you know that being even more specific, stress affects our oral health care as it leads to tooth loss and gum disease. Great, just one other thing to stress about right!

An article published in the Journal of Periodontology last summer, states there is a direct link between stress and periodontal disease, issues like bleeding, sensitive gums, and receding gums. In addition, other psychological factors such as depression, anxiety, and loneliness also cause periodontal disease.

You may be asking, how does stress lead to bad oral health? Well, the stress hormones cortisol is the issue. It is released by the adrenal glands and is necessary for many functions such as glucose metabolism, insulin, blood pressure control, and for inflammatory response and proper immune function.

High levels of stress equate to increased levels of cortisol production. And increased levels of cortisol are linked to an increase deterioration of gum tissue and the bone that supports the teeth. This leads to a list of other oral health issue such as tooth decay, gum inflammation, and tooth loss.

Behavioral factors may also be a contributing factor. It’s common for over stressed individuals or those suffering from depression to disregard normal day-to-day oral health care. They brush and floss their teeth infrequently. Additionally, high stress leads to increased alcohol and tobacco usage, both of which create an environment friendly for bad breath, germs and gum disease.

It’s very important to find healthy activities the relieve stress. Regular exercise does wonders in lowering one’s stress levels. Also, a well balanced diet adds even more balance.

Another study recently released in the journal of Microbiology shows that over 900 different types of odor producing oral bacteria were found in the throat and tonsil areas. This is a startling find, as most people think that by simply brushing your teeth, including your tongue, you get rid of bad breath.

Most traditional oral care products only cover the smell of bad breath. They don’t actually get rid of it. There are very few products on the market that actually destroy the bad breath producing bacteria. These products, such as Therabreath, use a rich oxygen based formula for destroying the bacteria, as these bacteria don’t survive in an oxygen rich environment. So next time, when looking for a mouth wash, read the label and sees if it contains and oxygen based formula.

Ovarian Cysts: Causes, Risks And Treatments

Diseases and Conditions No Comments

Ovarian cysts are small sacs which consist of fluids and get developed in female ovaries. Most of these cysts are harmless but some may create problems by causing pain or rupturing or bleeding. One method of ridding yourself of ovarian cysts is to have them surgically removed.

Physiological ovarian cysts

All women of child bearing age who are not on pills have certain cystic structures in their ovaries, which continuously come and go. Such structures are essential for the development and subsequent release of the egg. They are referred to as “physiological” as they constitute a part of the general function of the ovaries.

A maturing egg is carried to the surface of the ovary during the earlier half of a normal 28 days cycle. It is carried there by a cystic structure known as “follicle”. This follicle carries out the dual task of not only getting the egg transported but also of manufacturing estrogen. The hormone that stimulates uterine lining growth is known as estrogen. The start of intrauterine helps the implantation of the fertilized egg and the growth of the embryo.

During ovulation, the follicle is the size of an olive. The egg is released when the follicle gets ruptured. The fluid of the follicle which, till then, had been clear, is replaced with blood which accompanies the rupturing process. Progesterone begins to be secreted after this and a substance, which is yellow colored, is formed during this time.

If the woman doesn`t get pregnant at this time, the yellow substance becomes somewhat scarred and the cystic structure thus formed is called “corpus luteum”. The structures are generally small in size, but this process, at times, tends to carry on longer than necessary. The physiologic structures get filled with follicular fluid or blood and get enlarged to the size of say, a tiny plum. Such cysts may or may not turn out to be painful. But the primary side-effect that accompanies these cysts is that the menstrual cycle becomes irregular. It is quite a possibility that the cysts will leak or that they will twist the ovary resulting in the patient experiencing pain or severe tenderness. And, if an ultrasound shows that there is an enlarged cyst, there will have to be a surgery carried out.

Pathological Ovarian Cysts

Cystic structures, developed in the ovary, but which are not parts of the ovulation cycle are termed as “pathological ovarian cysts”. They are also called “tumors”. Such tumors can be basically divided into two categories: those which are malignant or cancerous or those which are benign. There are various kinds of pathological ovarian cysts. There are those which are made up of mucous and those which are made up of old blood.

It is not uncommon to find cysts such as these in women who are young and who happen to bear tissues of a wide array in a disordered manner. Such tissues can be found in fat, teeth, bone, thyroid gland and hair. Pathological cysts have a problem and that is that there is no scope of any regression in these types of structures. The fluid can accumulate at a tremendous rate. And, as fluid forms the principal and really only component of the cyst, it can grow very rapidly. It could enlarge in a couple of weeks or maybe months.

Reasons behind ovarian cysts

If you look at ovarian cysts through ultrasound, you will immediately realize that they resemble bubbles. As we said earlier, fluid forms virtually the only component of a cyst, and it is surrounded by a slim wall. A cyst such as this is known as a “Simple Cyst” or “Functional Cyst”. If however, it is the follicle which has failed to rupture and release the egg, the fluid remains and it is likely that it will form a cyst in the ovary. Because of this, one of the two ovaries gets affected. It happens sometimes that tiny cysts may be present in a normal ovary while the follicles are being formed.

Adverse Effects

Women can get affected by ovarian cysts at any age, and doctors have pronounced these cysts to be either physiologic or functional. This basically means that such cysts are not carriers of diseases and most of them are benign that is to say they are not cancerous. Also, many of these disappear by themselves within the space of a few weeks.

Cysts appear in women who are of child bearing age and they fall into the categories of cancerous growths or non-cancerous. It is strange that while ovarian cancer has shown the presence in it of cysts, ovarian cysts themselves represent a normal process or a harmless condition. Ovarian cysts can be of various types and include Corpus Luteum cysts, Dermoid cysts, Follicular cysts, Hemorrhagic cysts and many others.

Holistic Approach

A large number of medicinal methods are being used nowadays to try to cure ovarian cysts but none of these are able to guarantee full success. The only way that a woman can rise above ovarian cysts is through the holistic approach. And it has the added advantage of having no side effects and being wholly trustworthy.

The holistic approach believes in the saying “Forewarned is Forearmed” and tries to eradicate ovarian cysts by its very roots. The holistic approach tries to create fitness on the mental, spiritual as well as the physical level. So it basically persuades you to face ovarian cysts with courage and not to run away from it.

Ovarian Cysts And PCOS Link Revealed

Diseases and Conditions No Comments

There is, in most cases, a link between Ovarian Cysts and PCOS. The full form of PCOS is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and it is basically a condition where the ovary develops a number of cysts. So, as one can see, there is similarity between Ovarian Cysts and PCOS except that, in the case of PCOS, the cysts developed are more than one.

The principal reason why PCOS form is thought to be because of irregularities that occur during ovulation. When such irregularities occur the normal body cycle generally becomes disturbed, causing either a surge or a drop in certain hormone production processes. This is what leads the ovaries to develop multiple cysts.

When PCOS or Ovarian Cysts form in a female, she has to contend with several problematic conditions. The primary one could be lack of ovulation but this is also accompanied by conditions where there is a disruption of the menstrual cycle; where there is an abnormal sprouting of hair; also baldness, acne or obesity. These conditions are almost always caused by an upsurge in the androgen level. Androgen is commonly referred to as the male hormone. Another unfortunate though temporary situation which arises because of PCOS is that the concerned woman is rendered infertile.

PCOS and ovarian cysts which form in older women or those who are menopausal, tend to be cancerous so it is strongly advised that slightly older women undergo regular checks to detect traces of cancer.

Causes for Ovarian Cysts and PCOS

What exactly causes PCOS is not known for sure, but studies indicate that they are caused when follicles containing the immature ovum get damaged. This usually happens when women are exposed, in some way, to toxins that are chemical in nature and which are referred to by the term xenobiotics. These chemicals do more than just cause damage to the egg follicle. They drastically affect the process of production of female hormones or progesterone.

Cure for Ovarian Cysts and PCOS

Doctors generally prescribe certain medicines to people suffering from PCOS or ovarian cysts. However, these medications, for the most part, are only prescribed for balancing hormonal levels and are themselves made up of chemical hormones. So the moment you stop taking these medicines, there is a good chance that your ovulation will become irregular once again. A holistic approach to the treatment of these conditions should therefore be worked out.

It is precisely with this in mind that many doctors these days suggest a dietary plan to their patients. We share with you some elements of the diet prescribed for sufferers from ovarian cysts and PCOS.

1. It is suggested that you should keep away from fatty foods. But that is not to say that you should cut down your intake of fats or carbohydrates drastically. Your diet must contain 20-30% of fats.

2. Choose foods of a high quality and do not eat food that has been chemically treated, preserved foods or foodstuff which is fabricated. It is always better to consume foods which have been grown naturally and organically.

3. As much as is possible, try and eat raw vegetables and stay away from starchy vegetables. See if you can cut down your intake of soy and dairy products and also of food grains.

4. Be careful to see that if you are eating seafood, it is not contaminated in any way and that it is the fresh water variety. As for meat, experts advise you to eat organic meat from animals fed on lean grass.

5. Do not overindulge on vegetables and fruits which are sugary. Again, you should stay away from preserved or tinned varieties and try to eat freshly cut vegetables and fruits.

There are other factors as well which you should consider while working out your diet plan for keeping PCOS and ovarian cysts at bay. But whichever diet you adopt, consult your doctor first. This is important especially if you suffer from other medical conditions apart from PCOS and ovarian cysts or if you happen to be allergic to anything. Do also take care to see that you and your doctor work out the treatment method according to the holistic approach so that the root cause of the PCOS and ovarian cysts get treated ensuring their permanent cure.

As a matter of fact, diet is an important component of the holistic form of treatment because this school of healing believes that dietary conditions which are not good can be a root cause for contracting ovarian cysts and PCOS. But diet forms only a portion of the treatment and other root causes which may be there must also be treated. These could be toxin collections in the digestive and body tract, obesity, genetic causes and an immune system that is weak, among other things.

Therefore, all such causes will be tackled while dealing with PCOS and ovarian cysts in the holistic approach to their treatment instead of simply increasing levels of any particular hormone.

Ovarian Cysts And Pregnancy: Protect Your Health And Fertility

Diseases and Conditions No Comments

Women get very nervous about going through a term of pregnancy when they have been diagnosed as having ovarian cysts. But it is not an uncommon phenomenon and many women have to learn to go through the experience. It is pointless to try and console them by giving those statistics because they will still worry and be tense about this mixture of ovarian cysts and Pregnancy. However, such a state of mind is not desirable during pregnancy and women with such tensions should try and sort out their fears with their gynecologists or counselors.

It is extremely essential for pregnant women with ovarian cysts to understand everything about their condition so that recovery is hastened and also so that they receive the correct treatment for their cysts during their term of pregnancy.

Complications of Ovarian Cysts

There are two varieties of ovarian cysts which can be found during pregnancy. The benign variety and the malignant one. Benign cysts are not a cause of worry, but the malignant type could be dangerous during the delicate stage of pregnancy. So what you should clarify right at the beginning is the sort of ovarian cyst you are carrying, along with your baby.

Ovarian cysts treatment will depend on the type that they are and the severity of the complication pertaining to them. There are even cysts which get cured by themselves. But you must be careful to monitor the state of your ovarian cysts so that complications such as the rupture of a cyst during pregnancy do not occur. Sometimes a complication manifests itself quite suddenly and unexpectedly, so even ovarian cysts which are benign should be monitored with care during pregnancy.

Ovarian cysts and pregnancy forms a combination which is quite dangerous, so you must seek to get treatment for it of the highest order. It is not uncommon for an ovarian rupture to result in a miscarriage and large cysts could cause all manners of problems. So it is essential that medical intervention is made in a timely manner. In order to get the optimum level of treatment, you should consider all options available to you for the medical treatment of Ovarian Cysts during your term of pregnancy.

Treatment

Ovarian cyst treatment during pregnancy will not be the same as normal treatment because some of the drugs that are usually prescribed and some forms of treatment could pose a threat to the child not yet born. It would therefore be unwise of you, during pregnancy, to use over the counter drugs; painkillers in particular. Also, you will have fewer options to fall back on if your preferred form of medical treatment is the conventional one. In fact, whichever form of treatment you decide to follow, if it is from the conventional stream of medicine, each will have its own hazards.

Some of the methods of treatment followed by conventional forms of healthcare, as for instance surgery, cannot be used during pregnancy. This is why; it is always safer to pursue alternative treatment streams which cure naturally, when trying to combat ovarian cysts at the time of pregnancy. Amongst the alternatives, the best way to cure your ovarian cysts during pregnancy is possibly through the holistic approach. The Holistic Approach will definitely be good for you as it hardly creates any problems during treatment even during a patient`s pregnancy. Other advantages include:

1. No other treatment is as safe as the Holistic Approach one. There is no hassle in using this method even during pregnancy and both mother and the unborn child remain completely safe.

2. It helps to root out the basic cause of the illness and that ensures that there is no recurrence of the problem even in future. This contrasts sadly with the treatment you get through conventional medical systems which may say anything, but are only able to address the symptoms. So you may find yourself in a situation where the original condition again arises during critical moments of your pregnancy because it has never been fully eradicated. The holistic approach, on the other hand, is more successful in actually curing the ovarian cysts during pregnancy rather than just giving you temporary relief.

3. Natural techniques used while treating this condition are efficient while not being as aggressive as the conventional treatment forms. The multidimensional aspects of the holistic approach ensure that it does not restrict its activities to treatment forms which are hackneyed but rather explores different treatment avenues which helps it succeed.

4. It stops any further complications from arising during pregnancy on account of the ovarian cysts. There are some real threats which can crop up because of this condition, such as ruptures. But the holistic approach allows the patient to get over these threats by keeping control of the medical situation. Thus, even women suffering from ovarian cysts can go through a safe pregnancy.

Another point to note is that the holistic approach can help relieve anxiety and stress in women during their pregnancy because it helps them face the problem of ovarian cysts on the emotional level. The practitioner will relieve you of your doubts and fears by acting as your counselor and advising you on options for treatment. The confidence you will gain from the light and jestful interactions with him will not only ultimately cure your ovarian cysts but will help you have an enjoyable pregnancy.

Holistic practitioners will review your condition relating to ovarian cysts and pregnancy and will treat you accordingly. But what you have to definitely do is to consult him before you embark on any method of treatment so that all risks are avoided and the recovery process is speeded up.

Ovarian Cyst Medications Do Not Work In The Long Run

Diseases and Conditions No Comments

Most ovarian cysts are asymptomatic, disappear without medication and cause no harm. Medications for ovarian cysts, whenever prescribed, alleviate pain and pressure in the pelvic region and prevent the forming of more cysts by stopping the process of ovulation if it is a chronic problem. The best way to stop ovulation is to take birth control pills.

Initial medications for ovarian cysts

Since most ovarian cysts disappear within a couple of menstrual cycles, the medical practitioner might not prescribe any medication and keep the patient under observation to see if the ovarian cyst is getting bigger or disappearing on its own. An examination of the pelvis might be recommended after a few months to record any variations in size.

After a few menstrual cycles if the ovarian cyst still does not improve, the doctor could carry out tests to see whether any other type of growth in the ovary is causing this problem. At such times over the counter medication to relieve pain and the application of heat could reduce some of the annoying symptoms.

Ongoing medications for ovarian cysts

An ovarian cyst which persists through more than two menstrual cycles should be checked out. If an ultrasound shows the there is something amiss or you start exhibiting symptoms of cysts in the ovary, treatment has to start on you through medications or through surgery. Your gynaecologist could suggest that you keep using birth control pills for some time so that more cysts do not get to form.

Surgery as a Medication

If, despite medical treatment, an ovarian cyst which is functional but is causing a good deal of pain, refuses to go away, a surgery (cystectomy) through the use of laparoscopy (causing an incision which is small) could have to be done to remove it. However if an ultrasound brings out something unusual or the gynaecologist feels that there could be a risk of ovarian cancer, a surgery by way of a bigger incision in the abdomen through laparotomy may require to be carried out.

Surgery could also be needed to confirm the presence of ovarian cysts. And if ovarian cancer is suspected, surgery will also be required for gauging the state of ovarian growths. You must realise however that surgery does not provide a permanent solution in the matter of ovarian cysts. It can only work if it is used to remove the ovaries altogether.

What would require surgery are situations where the cyst or the ovary have been ruptured or twisted (torsion), where there is severe pain or bleeding, where the cyst is more than 3 inches or is pressing on some of the other abdominal organs, the cyst not going away although two or three months have elapsed since its detection and where these months have covered a couple of menstrual periods and finally, where the ultrasound has discovered something suspicious.

But although the application of surgery could prove effective for the treatment of ovarian cysts, some studies have also shown that it could lead to complications as well. These complications could include problems of access, of operative procedures and physiological complications involving pneumoperitoneum.

Surgery Choices

Whether the incision is small, such as in Laparoscopy or large, such as in Laparotomy, a cut will have to be made on the area of your stomach. Laparoscopy could be used for confirming the presence of ovarian cysts in women of child bearing age. And, at the time of the Laparoscopy, large, painful ovarian cysts could easily be removed, even though they might not be cancerous, without taking out the ovary.

Laparotomy, on the other hand, might have to be used if the cysts are too large to manage through Laparoscopy. Laparotomy would also have to be used if the woman has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer or some problems relating to the abdomen or the pelvic organs occur. If indeed cancer has been detected, the larger incision allows the surgeon to observe the affected area closely and, where necessary, remove the affected portion of the abdomen.

Factors to be thought of

A major consideration in the treatment of ovarian cysts is whether the woman concerned is menopausal or not, because the risk of cancer in the ovaries increase significantly in such women. So it is necessary to be extra careful when checking the ovarian growths of women past this stage.

In fact, many doctors would immediately suggest that the ovaries be removed i.e. oophorectomy if they find that cysts have developed on any ovary of a menopausal woman. However, the current trend of thought in medicine is not to perform surgery on women past menopause if the cysts are small and simple. Among cysts which are dangerous are the Unilocular cysts which are housed in compartments and have thin walls. These could be cancerous after menopause.

Holistic approach

The holistic approach is simple and causes the least amount of pain amongst the various forms of medication used to cure ovarian cysts and all sufferers would be better served if they followed this approach from the initial stages of discovery of these cysts. What the holistic approach believes in is “Prevention is better than cure”. What this means is that the holistic approach lays stress on the approach which attempts to root out the problem of ovarian cysts at the very nascent stages. This is done by stressing on a person`s physical fitness and an increase in his optimism. The holistic approach has given a new meaning to ovarian cysts medication.

Ovarian Cyst Symptoms: Timely Diagnosis Is Crucial To Your Health

Diseases and Conditions No Comments

Because ovarian cysts hardly produce any detectable symptoms, it is difficult to lay down a list of what ovarian cyst symptoms are. In most cases, such symptoms come to light when the woman concerned is going through a routine physical examination or sometimes by chance on ultrasound, which might have been performed for totally different reasons. In any event, let us take you through some of these symptoms.

Prominent symptoms

Prominent ovarian cyst symptoms include abdominal pain or pain in the lower pelvis which might be sharp and sudden and also very severe; irregular periods; a feeling of fullness or pressure in the pelvic or lower abdominal regions; long-term pain on the pelvic girdle which extends to the lower back during menstrual periods; pain in the pelvic region after sexual intercourse or strenuous exercise; pain or a feeling of pressure at the time of bowel movements or urination; nausea and vomiting; vaginal blood spotting or pain in the vagina; tenderness of the breasts and gaining of weight.

However, it must be noted that the ovarian cyst symptoms which we have quoted above are all quite generic and may be caused by conditions totally unconnected with ovarian cysts such as endometriosis, ectopic pregnancy or inflammatory disease of the pelvis or some other illnesses. So what you need to do is visit your doctor if you have any of the above mentioned symptoms to obtain an accurate diagnosis as to the presence of ovarian cysts.

Serious cases

In cases of a more serious nature, where ovarian cysts turn hazardous to the patient`s health, symptoms of their presence in the body is exhibited by dizziness or light-headedness, severe abdominal pains, fatigue, fever, rapid breathing and/or shortness of breath and other symptoms also. If you happen to be facing any of the problems mentioned above, consult a doctor immediately. With medical sciences having reached such glorious heights, medication is bound to be available for curing all manners of ovarian cysts.

There are a large number of treatments available nowadays for the curing of ovarian cysts, but most women prefer to rely on home based remedies which includes a number of steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin (ibuprofen) and other medicines which tackle narcotic pain. It might help if the patient restricts all strenuous activities as that would reduce torsion or cyst rupture. But it is a recognized truth that the best way of treating ovarian cysts in an effective manner is through the Holistic Approach. The monitoring of the cysts is carried out through what is called endovaginal ultrasound or ultrasonic observation.

Complications

A very large ovarian cyst is likely to cause abdominal discomfort, and if a cyst which is sizeable presses against your bladder, you are likely to urinate quite often as the capacity of your bladder will get reduced. Some women develop cysts which are of an uncommon nature and do not produce any symptoms. But their doctors will find out about these cysts while carrying out a pelvic examination. Ovarian cysts which form after a woman reaches menopause could be cancerous, so it is very important to take medical checks on your pelvic region regularly. You can now understand why it would be wholly incorrect for you to ignore any of the symptoms that have been mentioned here.

A word of caution

It would of course be unwise to depend only on the symptoms to come to the conclusion that you are suffering from ovarian cysts because you might not exhibit any symptoms at all. Even if you do show symptoms, there is a likelihood of these symptoms being the same as those exhibited by other illnesses such as the pelvic disease relating to inflammation, ovarian cancer, endometriosis, or ectopic pregnancy. Also, diseases such as appendicitis and diverticulitis can produce symptoms which mimic the symptoms of ovarian cysts which have ruptured. But despite these uncertainties, it is imperative to keep a careful watch on symptoms or changes in the body to ensure that nothing serious is taking place.

If indeed you are suffering from the problem of ovarian cysts, the symptoms we have enumerated in the two paragraphs at the beginning will help you in diagnosing this disease. Symptoms which call for immediate medical attention include those relating to pain followed with vomiting or feeling feverish and also shooting and severe pain in the abdominal or pelvic regions.

Holistic Approach

The holistic approach is being preferred nowadays in dealing with all forms of diseases and this also holds true for ovarian cysts. Holism as a “Health Concept” has been in existence for many years. But it is only recently that the holistic approach has begun to be integrated with the mainstream system of health care. This approach will not only help counter the problem of ovarian cysts completely, but will also provide a patient with physical and mental peace.

The holistic approach should not be misunderstood to mean that it is a form of treatment. What it is is an approach which explains the way treatment should be applied. This means that if a sufferer gets to detect the symptoms of ovarian cysts soon enough, the holistic approach can work wonders.

“A Healthy Mind In A Healthy Body” is the principle on which the holistic approach works. This approach can help prevent ovarian cysts from even appearing and, if they do, it can cure this condition. The primary step of the holistic approach is to deal with the diet. It believes that a balanced and wholesome diet is essentially what will give a person a sound physique and build her resistance. The diet which it considers as balanced includes fruits, minerals, leafy vegetables and proteins. What have to be avoided strictly are fatty substances as well as excessive amounts taken of carbohydrates.

If the body and also its surroundings are maintained in a proper state of cleanliness, ovarian cysts will cease to be a cause of worry and ovarian cyst symptoms will not prove troublesome anymore.

The Dual Diagnosis - One Of The Most Sensitive Forms Of Drug Treatment In Iowa

Diseases and Conditions No Comments

There are several kinds of addiction treatment program in Iowa, each one differing from the other in the kind of addiction they treat and the policies that they adopt. But none of these programs is quite as sensitive as the dual diagnosis form of treatment. Let us check out how dual diagnosis drug treatment in Iowa works.

As the name suggests, the dual diagnosis is a method of treating two coexisting conditions in the person’s body at once. These two conditions are mostly mutually influencing conditions. One of them affects the other, and hence their treatments are also interrelated.

Consider the example of the dual diagnosis program for drug treatment in Iowa. Here, the patient has a drug addiction that may be complicated by several other conditions, which could include a mental or a physical problem. Usually, people who check in for dual diagnosis drug treatment in Iowa are suffering from a mental condition, so let us restrict our discussion to that.

The mental condition might play a very important role in complicating the treatment process. What is the most important attribute for a person to come out of an addiction? It is most definitely the resolve of the person to do so. However, when a person has a psychiatric problem, this becomes difficult because the person is not able to make the mental resolve necessary to stay away from the addiction. The weak mental nature of the person does not allow him or her to understand the extent of the problem they are in and for that reason they can go into a much stronger process of denial than other people.

However, this denial definitely needs to be removed if the person has to be brought out to a proper channel of treatment. This is done through the dual diagnosis method. A simultaneous method of treatment is conducted to treat both the addiction and the mental condition that is making it more complicated. This way, there is assured treatment for both conditions, since the mental condition impedes the treatment of the addiction and most surely, the addiction too impedes the treatment of the mental condition. The only way to treat both these things at once is to provide a treatment method that allows treating both conditions in an alternating fashion.

This is how a typical dual diagnosis drug treatment in Iowa would be conducted.

There is no phase of overcoming denial in such treatment for the simple reason that it would be very difficult to motivate patients to come out of their usage of the substance, keeping their errant mental condition in mind. For that reason, these people are directly led into a detox program.

The detox program will need to be different than the normal detox treatment that is conducted in Iowa. One of the main reasons for this is the underlying condition of the mental sickness that will make it much more difficult for the person to sail through the withdrawal. It will become difficult tot keep the patient focused on the treatment. Hence, the detox is carried out almost forcibly by the treatment providers. It will take longer than the normal detox treatment too. While other detox treatments are completed within one week at the most, the detox treatment for a person who is suffering from a mental condition could take even up to three weeks or more because the mental condition will keep on impeding the progress of the treatment.

The detox treatment is said to be over when the person does not feel the craving for the substance again and the person is out of the withdrawal process. Of course, complete recovery cannot be expected all at once, and in people with a coexisting mental condition, this is quite a tall order to achieve. But even when there is a sustainable degree of removal of the patient from the conditions of withdrawal, the detox treatment can be considered to be completed in such cases.

After the detox treatment, the person is led into a psychiatric counseling program. Here a psychiatrist would deal with the person, first through interviews and then through treatment. The interviews are important because the person has to be assessed for the extent and nature of the mental condition. Once that is gathered, a treatment program in chalked out for the person. This treatment program will answer the needs of the person’s addiction as well as try to bring a solution for the inner mental condition that the person is suffering from.
