Choosing an SEO Company to Suit Your Needs

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

As more and more of the business marketing companies are turning to the online sector for promotion, more and more SEO and internet marketing cowboys are popping up onto the scene. Making it harder for not only small businesses but a selection of the larger businesses to actually work out the good from the ugly. So I have put together a few tips which may help in eliminating this problem.

Firstly you should check to see how long a company has been around. If they have been around for say 5 years or more, then you know that they must be doing something right. Also a great tip is to check how many employees they have because a company with only 1 employee that has been around for 5 years is quite an easy achievement. But if infact they have 10 or 20 employees, each would have to get a wage therefore the company would have to be bringing in legitimate money to last 5 years.

Next I would ask them to show me some results of any previous clients they have worked with, if they come up with an excuse such as we can’t as we don’t list our clients results, then I would be quite precautious. Also ask to speak to some of the clients directly to maybe get a few good references.

A lot of SEO companies promise the world and fail to deliver, or they just lye to you from the beginning. You should never believe an SEO company that guarantees results within 30 or 60 days nobody can guarantee anything, what a legitimate SEO company can do is apply there knowledge both onsite and offsite to improve overall rankings and drive targeted traffic and conversions into a website.

You should be on the look out for companies that want you to sign a long lasting contract, as if you do this you may have to pay the company month in and month out, while they are not doing anything to help your sites rankings. Finally you should try to discuss what the steps will be with an SEO company, SEO is not a quick win solution, it cannot be completed within a day or two, it should be an ongoing process for the rest of your websites life. You should beware of companies that promise too much as they may be breaking the search engines guidelines which will ultimately result in your sites demise.

Make Money by Picking Great Keywords

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

If you are going to be successful in making money on the Internet, you will need to become proficient in picking keywords. Keywords, if used correctly, are the sign posts that will direct visitors to your site. And what is even better is that they will come for free.

The first step to picking the right keywords is to gather and study keywords and phrases that pertain to your website’s subject matter. One of the best tips is to find out directly from your customers (if you can) what words they are searching for and what they are hoping to find. It is always good to look at any business through the eyes of the customer rather than the owner because it is the customer that ultimately has to be satisfied. Try to find out what your customers want and what they are looking to do or buy. Your customers may have a different need than you thought.

When you have gathered as many phrases and ideas as you can from your customers, it is time to add your own. Once you have this complete list in your hand, it is time to start studying and evaluating it. Your goal is to find phrases that will bring in the highest number of highly targeted visitors to your website. “Highly targeted visitors” means those visitors that are looking specifically for what you have to offer and to make a purchase if you are selling.

There are many different paid software programs and free ones as well that will help you pick word phrases that may be suitable to your goal. You need to find word combinations that people use and are highly relevant to your site. You also have to find combinations that do not have too much competition or it may be difficult to compete with the high number of other sites also targeting those keyword.

Selecting relevant keywords that will effectively bring visitors to your website is not a skill that is learned overnight. It is difficult enough that along with that software you can buy are many professional companies that can help you as well. Picking and targeting correct keywords is something that takes a large amount of patience and lots of trial and error. If you expect to learn slowly and not get frustrated by the many possible failures you might heve, you will do well.

Make Money With Your Search Engine Rankings

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

If you are going to be successful on the Internet at making money, you will need to pay close attention to the search engine rankings of your website. A high ranking on the search engines for your targeted words or subjects is the difference between total failure and a successful website.

More than 80% of the people on the Internet find what they are looking for by using search engines. The top search engine by far is Google, followed by Yahoo and then MSN. If you can get your website’s pages on the first page of Google you will most likely get a steady stream of visitors. That is what everyone is trying to do and that is what is called SEO or search Engine Optimization.

SEO is as complicated as you want to make it but it doesn’t have to be that way. The title you use on your blog or website is the most important of all. Make sure you use the important keywords or phrases you have chosen in every title as this is the first thing the search engines see. Your title should be carefully thought out to say and target exactly what you want your visitors to be searching for.

Your websites content is also very important. Search engines cannot read pictures and graphics so keep in mind that although a picture or two can make your site look better, it does nothing to tell Google what your page is about. Make sure you repeat your keywords every so often but try not to put them too many times on one page. This is called “keyword stuffing” and may end up upsetting the Google gods if you do it.

After you have written quality targeted content on your site, it is time to think about links. Another way Google determines what your site is about is by looking at the links that link to your site. If everyone links to your site using the words “fast cars” then Google will determine your site is about fast cars and not “tall trees”.

The number of incoming links and what their anchor text is (”fast cars” would be the anchor text) helps Google decide not only what your site is about but also how important it is. If your site has 10 incoming links about fast cars and another has 100 of the same type of links, Google will decide that your competitor’s site is more “important” than yours and most likely list that site ahead of yours. This is why you need to be forever obtaining incoming links to maintain and improve your website’s search engine rankings.

In the end, websites with high search engine rankings will make more money than those with low rankings. They will get more free visitors and if properly positioned, those visitors will translate into dollars. The Internet marketing game is a complicated game that anyone can play but only those that know what they are doing will be successful.

The Importance Of Time In Search Engine Optimisation

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

Undoubtedly if you are in business you will have heard the term search engine optimisation being bandied around. For those embarking on an online business strategy the optimisation of your website is a vital constituent to achieving success. For the uneducated it is important to recognise that SEO and search engine optimisation are one in the same. Understanding this however does not make you an expert, while you may know that optimisation will eventually lead to success, understanding the process is a different matter all together. Ultimately you want to use SEO to improve your natural search engine rankings.

Fundamentally search engine optimisation will include using keywords in your website that the search engines will like. Your keywords let the search engine know what your website is about and hence should be relevant to the information contained on your page. It is not just the on page information however that needs attention when optimising. Another vital part of the process is to build links to your website, this will improve the natural rankings as search engines place emphasis on the number of links that a site has.

These two elements; on and off page are the two used in the world of optimisation. Understanding them can be difficult, but with basic knowledge it is possible to apply yourself and improve your rankings. Generally more rankings means more traffic to your site and hence, greater business as more people are visiting your site.

On page optimisation involves using the keywords you have selected in your content. It is important to construct your content in a way that it is quality; illegible content simply packed full of keywords will look spammy to search engines. This process is however ongoing, content should be updated regularly, always including your keywords. Natural listings will take time to arise, but by following this advice and being patient you should be able to achieve them eventually; the time it will take however is dependent upon the competition for your keywords. Naturally a word like insurance will have more competition than a key term such as tan leather chairs.

The general rule of thumb is that the fresher your content, the faster you will achieve good listings. It is important to realise that you can overdo the process of refreshing content. Ideally you want to change your content fortnightly or weekly, any more than this and you will be changing too much and will not be seen as stable by search engines. Ultimately you do not want to rush the optimisation process, those in the know realise that this simply is not possible, you need to be patient and keep the efforts up, and listings will follow eventually.

As previously stated building links is the second facet to the optimisation process. Search engines have a preference for websites with many links. These links do however have to be relevant, having thousands of links pointing back to your site that have no relevance are not held in the highest regard by search engine algorithms. By building as many links as possible and constantly pursuing this tactic listings will once again become apparent.

In the same way as refreshing you content you do not want to do this too fast. If you build the links back to your site too quickly search engines may notice your efforts and penalise you for this. Penalties can include removal from listings so it is vitally important to undergo this process slowly.

By following this advice you should be able to achieve the listings that will bring your business success. This is in no way a comprehensive list however of the tactics employed by SEO specialists, there are other methods, both on and off page that can achieve great rankings. Most important is to realise the time it will take to achieve natural rankings, optimisation is not a fast process, patience and adherence to your efforts are both vital elements in SEO success.

Internet marketing expert Thomas Pretty looks into the importance of patience when pursuing a search engine optimisation strategy.

Parts of a Search Engine and Your Internet Marketing Company

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

One of the first things that you should do if you are thinking about launching an internet marketing company is research. Researching the field you are going into is the most crucial part of building a successful business. Developing a successful and profitable internet marketing company can be difficult, but if you take the necessary steps it is definitely something that you can do.

The thing that will be your best friend in building an internet marketing company is a search engine, which is why it is so important to understand the different parts of it. There are many different ways to organize content on the web, but every search engine has the same basic parts: a crawler, and index, and a search interface. A crawler or a spider is exactly what its name implies; it scours the web by following links, updating pages, and even adding new pages when it sees them or comes across them.

You will learn that every search engine has certain periods for deep crawling and other periods for shallow crawling. Each engine has an internal mechanism that works like a scheduler by preventing a spider from overloading servers and it tells them which documents to crawl next and how often to do it. You can compare this to an assistant or a daily planner because ultimately, it has the same basic functions; it tells you what to do and when to do it.

Any documents that change quickly or ones that are very important are the ones that are most likely to get crawled very often. How often something is crawled does not have too much to do with the search relevancy, but it does help to keep only fresh content in the index of search engines.

The index of s search engine is where all the data is stored that the spider collects. For instance, when you type in something and click search in the engine, you are not actually searching the web, but rather the cache of the web that is provided by the index of that particular search engine. Almost all search engines organize their content is something that is called a reverse index. The job of the reverse index is to sort all of the documents by words. So, this means that when you search something on Yahoo or Google and it returns 154,000 results, that means that is the approximate number of pages on the web that contain the words you searched for or have inbound links containing the words.

This is just a brief introduction into the parts of the search engine, but it is definitely a step in the right direction in preparation for building a successful internet marketing company.

SEO 101: Understanding Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

For success on the web, you have to have a clear understanding of search engine optimization, or SEO, and how you can put it to work for your website. Search Engine Optimization is rather simple, and is one way to bring targeted and plentiful traffic to your website. This method does take time, but will definitely help you bring your website the traffic and success you want to see.

The first concept that must be understood is how search engines rank their pages. Pages are ranked according to their relevancy in relation to the specific keywords that are used when people search for information. The more backlinks, or links that a site has from similar sites that lead back to it, the better the site will rank. Additionally, the more relevant and useful the information on the site is, the higher it will rank for those specific keywords. The power behind SEO is in making sure your articles include the right amount of appropriate keyword usage and carefully crafted tag boxes and letting the readers do the rest, plain and simple.

When web-surfers search the Internet, they are not usually interested in those pages whose rank number is in the hundreds. In reality, they are probably not even going to make it past the first few pages, leaving those other sites in the dust. The idea behind SEO is that through search engine optimization, you can move your site up the ranks with fresh, keyword-filled content that will attract the targeted traffic pouring out of search engines. This is so powerful for your the success of your site because, in turn, the more traffic you generate, the higher you will be ranked in the listings.

Secondly, keywords that are used frequently are going to have a lot of competition. Due to the enormous number of websites on the Internet, searching bland keywords and keyword phrases, like wine or red wine, will invariably result in hundreds of thousands of results. When you are targeting your site for a keyword, you must choose a path of least resistance- something that is specific enough to encompass your article but not too complicated to lose searches. The key here is determining which keywords are popular, but not highly competitive. This allows you to find the comfortable medium between keyword phrases that are over competitive and those that are not that profitable, allowing for maximum click-through.

Finally, you will want to begin by choosing keywords or keyword phrases that are easy for you to compete for. You will then want to build pages that are based around these keywords and that will receive traffic, but have less competition. As you produce these sites, you will want to begin building up pages that reach higher, more competitive keywords. Eventually, you will be building a ladder that allows you to exchange links with relevant sites and then use their keywords as an anchor in your sites. Simple, yet effective, SEO is the best technique to generate organic search engine traffic and money in your pocket.

Setting Up Wordpress Permalinks to Maximize Search Engine Rankings

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

Wordpress has become one of the most popular content management systems and blogging platforms for many people in today’s connected world, rivaled only by Typepad (another content management system) because of Typepad’s mobile blogging capabilities.

Among the features that make Wordpress so popular are the simple interface and secure environment, but when it comes to making money with your Wordpress blog you are going to want to rely on plugins and additions in order to maximize traffic, search engine rankings and revenue potential.

What you are going to learn in this article is the concept of a permalink as it relates to your Wordpress blog, as well as how you can tweak this feature in order to gain more control over the way your page address is displayed, the way that a search engine spider will rank each individual page, and even how you can use keywords properly in order to serve the highest paying contextual ads (using Google’s Adsense program for example).

First, what is a permalink? Well it is just like it sounds, it is a permanent link to a post on your blog. In order to understand the concept behind permalinks it is important to understand exactly what a CMS does and why this can be so much easier than running a traditional HTML website.

In a nutshell, the purpose behind a content management system (CMS) is to completely separate the content from the page layout, as well as to provide a simple interface where it is easy to add new content. It is also important to note that the structure of a blog is different than a traditional HTML site; whereas in traditional sites new content will be added via ‘deep linking,’ new content on a blog shows up directly on the front page. This is why permalinks are important, because your post will show up on the front page of your blog only temporarily and it needs to have a permanent link as well.

There are many different criteria that you can use when setting up your permalink structure, and this is where search engine optimization and relevant high-paying Adsense ads come in to the picture. One of the biggest factors in search engine algorithms and contextual ad serving technology is filenames, and so it is important to create a permalink structure for your Wordpress blog that will include relevant keywords that are prechosen for your title.

The default permalink structure (depending on your version of Wordpress) will either be simply numbering each post sequentially or it will be the date of the post. This does not tell a search engine spider any relevant information about your post, and as such your pages will usually rank lower in any type of hypertext-based search engine.

What you need to do to make your Wordpress posts search engine friendly is to make your permalinks display the post title and possibly category title, and then choose post and category titles that include keywords relevant to your topic. You can optimize your pages for higher paying Adsense ads by determining which keywords pay out the most per click and then using those keywords in your post and category titles.

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

In order to have success with your website, you have to generate traffic using exposure to your website. Getting web exposure requires being indexed. By simply submitting your sites, you are guaranteeing yourself a place in the inventory of websites search engines direct traffic to. The key to getting noticed quickly is to get your sites link on a highly ranked page. This works so well because highly ranked pages get spidered more often than those websites who are not as highly ranked. If you are linked into one of these pages with higher rankings, then the search engines spiders will move into your site as well as through those links. Getting there is the most important part, as well as the part that pays big.

To get linked into one of these sites, one option is purchasing advertising space. You can spend $10-$30 and get placed on their site, which will then index your site due to the fact your link is on that highly-ranked domain. After your advertising time is over, you can either continue or terminate your purchase, but will enjoy being indexed very quickly, regardless. This strategy is a strong option if you have the extra cash available to spend; otherwise, there are other free options.

The second way to get noticed is to join a highly ranked forum and leave posts about various pertinent topics. Leaving useful posts, most forums will allow you to then include a signature with your website address in it. You can also leave comments on popular blogs and include similar tag boxes. While making such posts, be sure that you do not use no follow tags, otherwise you are just leaving a comment that will go unnoticed by the search engines. Making sure your signature links back to your website, as this is what increases your search engine optimization.

In the world of the internet- search engines are king. When building a website, making your way into the highly-ranked pages of these search engines is the ideal way to generate targeted traffic and being it to your website in droves. High levels of directed traffic will help you increase sales- the more people you attract, the better your chances are of selling your products and services. Another great benefit is the ability to build lists of prospects- mailing lists are a great way to keep traffic informed about your site.

Finally, you have increased opportunity to expose your brand and your sites popularity- the more people know about you (and the more they can pass on) the more people are going to know about your site. With all of these strategies working for you, it is easy to say how, combined, they can prove to be a force to reckon with when it comes to getting streams of traffic to your site. These methods are simply a couple of ways to get links to your website on highly-ranked pages. There are several other methods you may use as well.

1. The first way to start optimizing your site for organic SEO traffic is to do link exchanges. You will want to find other sites whose content is of the same or similar theme as yours. SEO Methods - Get More Traffic

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

Ever wondered why your website hasn’t been getting much traffic to it? If the answer is yes then maybe you need to take a closer look at the SEO methods that you are using to get traffic to your website. SEO or search engine optimisation is the term given for methods of optimising your website in order for it to rank highly on search engine results pages, and without good SEO a website can be poorly ranked and never get any visitors.

SEO can make all the difference if you are looking to get your website a first page ranking and increase the amount of traffic that it receives on a daily basis. But what is SEO and is it difficult to achieve? Here are a few things that you should know about good search engine optimising and getting it right for your website.

* Know your keywords and key phrases and make sure that you have a good knowledge of the keywords that relate to your website. You can find these out by using one of the many online tools for this. Some search engines have their own that you can use. Once you have your keywords and phrases you can put them into the text on your website. This is by simply inserting them in a natural way into your content. Be aware however that too many keywords is seen as stuffing and can have a negative affect on your websites ranking.

* Have quality reciprocal links; by using links to and from good websites you will increase your traffic and ensure quality visitors. Do not be tempted to link to and from just any old site however as this will reduce the quality of your site and too many poor quality links can result in your site being suspended or even banned from some search engines.

* Submit your website to search engines and when you do this the search engines spiders will crawl through your website looking at the links and keywords and this will then be indexed. When a person uses the search engine and enters any of these keywords in it sites that contain relevant keywords and links will be returned in the results pages. In order for a site to be ranked highly it must be highly relevant to the search that has been conducted. Some search engines will allow paid inclusion onto their index and this is a perfectly ethical way of getting a high ranking on a results page, however as this ranking is often purely economically based high ranking websites are not always the most relevant to a particular search. Google does not allow paid inclusions.

* Do not use black hat SEO methods - black hat SEO methods are doing things such as keyword stuffing or putting keywords in the background of web pages but in the same colour as the background. These keywords cannot be seen by a visitor but they can be seen by spiders and are frowned upon. Black hat SEO methods more often than not result in a website from being banned from search engines or suspended for a certain period of time.

So if you want to have the best SEO for your website you need to take a look at it and make sure that you are following the guidelines that are set out above. If you can afford it you might want to think about paid inclusion or employing someone to write the content for your website to optimise it effectively. Which ever SEO methods you choose one thing is for sure - you will be getting more traffic.

How To Find The Right Keyword OptimizationTool For Fast Profits

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

Choosing the right keywords to pull traffic into your website is one thing but making sure that you are successful in ranking well for these keywords is quite another. After all, you can have as many pages as you want on the Internet but unless you’re ranking well in the search engines with those pages, you are simply not going to be successful. You also need to make sure that the phrases for which you are ranking are actually being looked for by real people. That is why it is important to use a keyword optimization tool in all of your search engine optimization efforts.

Unfortunately, keyword research is an area of search engine optimization that many webmasters tend to overlook. The simple fact of the matter is, unless you are targeting specific keywords you are not going to be as successful with your online business. After all, it would do little good for us to try to pull in traffic and if nobody was searching for what we were offering. Always make sure that you are targeting something specific and you will be happier with the results. The best way for you to be able to do this, of course, is by using the proper keyword optimization tool. Make sure that you always have one of these in your marketing tool belt and you would be surprised with how quickly your business will grow as a result.

There are several different things that a keyword optimization tool is going to do for you. First of all, it is going to help you to analyze your competition and to make sure that you’re going to be able to outrank those that are leading the list in the search engines without too much difficulty. After all, the last thing that we want to do is to waste unnecessary time trying to rank for impossible keywords and then not spending any of it on converting our traffic over to sales.

By helping you to have the proper on page optimization factors as well as any off page factors that are necessary for you to rank well, the keyword optimization tool is going to cut out any unnecessary steps that you might be taking along the way. The best part about it is that anything that is possible to automate will be automated and this can go a long way in helping your business to thrive for the long term.

Why It Is So Important To Learn About Keyword Research Software

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

In order to pull free traffic into your website, you need to use the proper keyword research software and then make the most of the keywords that you find. Unfortunately, it’s not just as simple as looking for what people are typing into the search engines, it goes much deeper than that. Although that certainly is the first step in any good search engine optimization campaign, there are several other steps that need to be put into place. Understanding the basics of search engine optimization is going to go a long way in helping you through the process but it is often necessary for you to employ some keyword research software to speed up the process and to make sure that you are not skipping anything important along the way.

This is where using the keyword research software is going to come in handy. Not only will it help you with the initial step of finding the keywords, it will do such things as making sure that the keyword phrase is going to be easy to rank for, identifying the competition and seeing what methods they are using in their search engine optimization and bringing you up to speed on anything that is necessary to make you come out on top. Any good keyword research software is going to walk you through this, step by step on each project that you decide to run. It is going to take a lot of the guesswork out of the equation and help to make sure that each of your projects is successful from beginning to end.

Whenever some people look for keyword research software to take care of these things, they end up with a bunch of little tools that only do one or two jobs each. Although it certainly is possible for you to complete every step of the project, one at a time, most people find this to be cumbersome at best. There are some tools that are available which will take care of every step of the process which can help you to get your SEO campaign up and running in the shortest amount of time possible. By having an all-in-one system, it will interact internally and make sure that everything works in conjunction with the other. All that is really necessary for you to do at that point, is to put the keywords to use and then to watch the traffic come in.

Keyword Marketing Research Made Easy

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

In order to truly make your website successful, you need to not only understand how to get people to it, you need to understand your competition. This is really the basis of any keyword marketing research that needs to be done and unless you’re doing it properly, you are simply leaving money on the table.

The entire process is commonly known as search engine optimization, often shortened to the letters SEO. Many people consider search engine optimization to be an art form but the simple fact of the matter is, it can be broken down into rather simplistic terms. Understanding the basics of SEO is extremely important if you’re going to be successful at it. Fortunately, it really only takes a little bit of time to understand the basics and to be perfectly honest, a lot of it has to do with research.

The first step in the process is doing the keyword marketing research and looking for keyword phrases that you can rank well for in the search engines. There are several different tools that are available to help you do this keyword marketing research, WordTracker and the Google keyword tool being told the most popular. You should make sure that you are using one of these tools because they will help you to identify what is actually being searched for and take all of the guesswork out of the equation.

After identifying the keywords that match your market, you need to do some competition research in order to find out if those keyword phrases have relatively low competition in the search engines. There are several tools that are available to help you do this automatically, as typing each one of them into Google can be quite monotonous and time-consuming.

When you have identified the keyword phrases that you plan on using, it’s time to check out the competition in the search engines to see what they are doing to rank well for those phrases. Checking things such as backlinks, on page optimization and the age of the website are all things that will help you to identify how easy it will be to outrank them.

Although keyword marketing research can take a good bit of time, by using the tools that are available you can keep this time to a minimum. This will help you to be able to pull in this traffic in the shortest amount of time possible. After all, that is what is going to make your business successful.

How to Improve Search Engine Ranking

One of the most common questions that Internet marketers have is how to improve search engine ranking for their websites. It doesn’t seem to matter whether the marketers are new to the Internet, or seasoned veterans. The lure of free search engine traffic is strong, and the secret to high rankings is mysterious.

Part of the problem with improving search engine ranking is that the techniques that work well one year, don’t seem to work well the next year. As a result, search engine optimization is a moving target. If your strategy isn’t right on the money, your website simply never receives any visitors.

However, there is a straightforward way to improve search engine ranking.

It combines “evergreen” strategies - that is, strategic elements that have always worked well and will continue to work well - with the latest twists that Google, Yahoo and MSN are looking for.

First, remember that the purpose of search engines is to return useful, relevant results for keywords that are searched-for. Always remember that. Anything that deviates from providing this fundamental element of value will ultimately be defeated by the search engines.

So, how does the search engine determine what pages to display?

The first thing to consider is what keywords are being searched-for. If search results are displayed as a result of keywords being typed in to the engines, then it stands to reason that creating your pages around certain profitable keywords is vital in order to appear in the search results.

So, step 1 is to find a list of keywords that your customers are typing in to the search engines. You then need to go through that list and choose only the keywords that have a relatively small number of competing websites. (Like under 1000, and certainly not more than 100,000).

Step 2 is to subdivide your keyword list into groups of keywords that are all thematically related. That is, that all match a certain theme. This is one of the newest elements that search engines are looking for now: strong theme relevance. So, having small sub-groups of keywords related to certain themes is vital.

The next thing to consider is the content on the web pages. We already know that the pages have to be created around certain keywords. Ideally, one main keyword should set the “theme” for each page. However, the content on that page needs to provide some value.

The content needs to be something the search engines would be “proud” to return in their list of results. That may sound corny, but the truth is that weak content or content that is automatically-generated or stolen from other websites tends to make the search engines look bad. And when they look bad, they lose visitors, and that’s bad for business. So they are going to be motivated to get rid of weak content in their results list.

So, step 3 is to create a website with good content, but one that is constructed carefully in order to preserve the “theme” of each page. In other words, when you create your website, the main index page should link to a small number (like less than 10) main theme pages, and each of those pages should link to some number of thematically-related pages (from the sort of keywords we discussed in step 2). Each of those thematically-related pages can link to each other or another one of the same theme.

At all times, the theme must be kept “clean”. That is, there should not be any links on any of those pages to pages that are not within the established theme. If you do link out to non-theme-related pages, these links dilute the strength of the theme and this causes your search engine ranking to suffer.

Finally, step 4 is to gather inbound links to your main theme pages from reputable, relevant websites. Link exchanges are somewhat useful (although reciprocal (2-way) links are less useful than they once were), but one-way inbound links are idea.

You can get inbound one-way links in a number of ways, but three exceptionally useful ways are by writing and distributing articles with links to your theme pages, by creating and submitting press releases with links to your theme pages, and by submitting your website to directories.

And that’s all there is to it. There are really only those four steps to be concerned with, and they’re not terribly mysterious.

Let me quickly recap:

Step 1 - Find keywords that are not too competitive
Step 2 - Subdivide keywords into theme groups
Step 3 - Create website with good content and theme-focused linking
Step 4 - Gather inbound links to your theme pages

That really is the extent of it, and it really does work. When you set out to improve search engine ranking, the most important thing is that you get started. Plan your strategy according to the four steps we discussed here, but then get started. It takes a bit of time before the search engines index your site, but when they do you’ll be delighted with the steady flow of free traffic to your website.

SEO On A Dime

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

Seo for those with small budgets will take some time and should be a long term effort, but the benefits are many. If you don’t have the cash to manage using a service or one of the alleged experts, don’t worry. You can do this!

And even if you could afford an expert, you should know some basics. Otherwise it’s like hiring and accountant and not being able to add. You need some SEO knowledge even if you are outsourcing the job, to know how to shop for an expert, and what to look for and expect in a service.

SEO for your pages

Begin your SEO with your home page. Give it a worthy name. No, welcome will not do. What does that say about your page. Welcome is plastered on pages all over the internet and doesn’t do a thing for setting your page apart for many many others.

Give your home page, and all the pages of your site a worthy title based on your keywords. Get your page started off right by telling search engines and visitors right upfront what your site is about. The SEO benefits will be far reaching!

The same goes for your domain name. Whatever your site is focused on, find the best keyword and get it into your domain name. This may take a little work. You will find many names you want are taken. Don’t despair. Get your grey cells working, rearrange words, seperate with hyphens, do whatever is necessary, but find a way. This will further optimize your website and when links come in from just your site name think of the SEO benefits you will be getting with no further effort on your part.

Meta tags are being pooh-poohed these days, but put them in anyway. Yes some of the search engines will not read them, but others will and since search engine traffic is targeted to you keywords don’t turn down traffic even in small numbers. Small numbers interested in what you have to offer, beat large numbers that land on your site accidentally or with no interest.

Another advantage to good meta tags is that they are used by a lot of directories. You will find that when submitting to a number of directories they will automatically pick up and use the description you have entered in your meta tags.

Good website navigation and sitemaps are another way to further your on page SEO. Add both an html sitemap and a google sitemap. If your sites gets very large this could be of great benefit in helping the bots find all of your pages.

Simple, easy to understand navigation and inter-linking between pages is just sensible in helping visitors get around your site and the inter-linking will help out with backlinks.

Good original content is very important to SEO. Search engines look for original content and value it more than duplicate content. Make sure your site contains a large percentage of original content, and the more content and pages the better. Add pages on a regular basis, and update pages occasionally to keep the spiders coming back.

SEO off page

SEO on page is the foundation, and you need it, but off page SEO is even more important.

You must get links. You can begin your off page SEO with two way link which are easier to get. Two way links are easier, and they have less value, but they are a starting place and a piece of your optimization strategy.

Look for sites that add something to your website, and give value to your visitors. You don’t want to link to direct competition, but related resources. Check each site first and be sure it is a good website, has link pages that are categorized with a small number of related links per page. Avoid link farms that have hundreds of unrelated and uncategorized links on a single page, and sites that are totally unrelated to yours. These will take away from your SEO and could even do harm.

Submit to directories. You will find many directories that are free and will not require that you link back.

Write articles. This is one of the best SEO values on the internet right now. If you write and submit articles yourself, this can be done completely for free. As you budget has more room, you can automate this process. In the meantime, frequent article submissions will bring you lots of incoming links.

Write a good bio box in the third person. Include anchor text that points visitors and links to different pages on your site. This is one way you can use SEO and direct links and traffic where you want. Put some time into writing bio boxes. This is time well spent.

Forums, blogs, email signatures, and social bookmarking are other off page SEO methods that will enhance your SEO efforts and you should educate yourself on all of them.

Circulating free viral reports is another SEO method that can be accomplished free or for little cost and bring big rewards. There are many more methods of off page SEO that you can use and tweak to get better results. Always consider if there is a new way you can twist and old method to get better SEO results.

Find The Perfect Location For Your Search Engine

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

Depending on what your web site is focused upon, search engine placement can be vital to getting traffic, hits and even sales. The higher you rank on a search engine, the more likely you are to obtain new visitors on a daily basis.

Search engine placement will depend a lot on the type of search engine potential customers use. Some search engines rely on advertising to drive their top spots. Others rely on the number of hits, or visitors, a site receives. Still others, scan relevant terms on different sites and rank their placement based on what a search engine user is looking for.

When it comes to search terms that help with ranking, the words are vital. Sites that successfully use popular key terms are generally placed high in the rankings, while those that don’t barely rank at all. The problem with this is figuring out how to use words to your advantage while setting up a web site. When this is done search rankings can be high.

To ensure you get decent rankings for your site, either pay to advertise it high on search engines, or consider keyword rich content that changes out from time to time to help improve your listings. Keyword rich content can be more cost effective than advertising, but it’s important to make sure your content is relevant and doesn’t try to hard sell.
To help improve placement, content should be:

* Relevant to the search. A web site that’s predominately dedicated to chicken, for example, shouldn’t have fifteen articles about dogs just because that happens to be a popular keyword search at the time.

* Content should be keyword rich, yet well written. Articles that are written simply to weave in keywords won’t generally get the best search placements. Keywords are those words that are commonly used by Internet users to seek out sites like yours. If you sell gifts online, for example, some of your keywords might be online shopping, online gifts, holiday gifts and so on.

* Content should make sense. Gibberish with keywords thrown in won’t get you a good placement. The content on a web site should make sense, be useable or valuable to readers and relevant.

* Content should be original. It’s important for your site to stand out from others on the same topic by offering fresh, interesting information. Don’t use plagiarized documents on your site and don’t just throw anything out there.

Search engine placement depends a lot on the search engine being used. But, when it comes to search engines that scan content for keywords, it’s important to make sure the content on your site is well written, keyword rich and relevant. The more attention you pay to your content, the better. You might be able to slide through some search engines for good placement, but most will reject articles that are not relevant, don’t make sense or are simply drafted to over saturate keywords.

Search engine placement is important for driving traffic to web sites. The more attention that goes into the creation of a site and the quality of its content, the better.

Search Engine Optimization Reviews - The 4 Techniques That Work

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

Despite the aura of mystery that surrounds search engine optimization, ranking high on the search engines is not nearly as hard as many SEO firms would like you to believe.

In fact, by the end of this article, you will know the four key techniques that work every time in the world of search engine optimization. This in turn will enable you to either (a) find affordable SEO services by knowing how to evaluate their services, or (b) do it yourself by knowing the secrets of how it’s done.

So without further ado, here are the four steps or techniques for SEO success:

1. Choose keywords that are popular, yet specific and attainable.
2. Create site structure that preserves theme and link goodness.
3. Create original content that is keyword and latent-semantic-indexing (LSI) friendly.
4. Acquire inbound links using articles, press releases, and directory submissions.

The first step of keyword selection is fundamental to search engine success. If you choose keywords that are horribly competitive, you will have a difficult time out-ranking your competition. Stands to reason. And if you choose keywords that are horribly general, any traffic you do happen to get will be untargeted and unlikely to be interested in anything you’re selling. Luckily, “general” and “competitive” tend to go hand in hand. So your best bet is to avoid them and choose specific keywords instead.

The only unfortunate thing is that very specific keywords have fewer people actively searching for them. This means that in order to ramp up the number of people who visit your website, you need to compete for more of these specific keywords.

But that’s okay. That’s the model that works. If you compare the website traffic that comes from one competitive keyword ranked on page 3 or 4 of the search engines to one low-competition keyword ranked on page 1 of the search engines, the low-competition one wins every time. Why? Because nobody ever sees the page 3 or 4-ranked keyword. The popularity of the keyword is irrelevant. If your rank is too low, you get no traffic. None.

So, specific keywords win every time. Your job then is to create more web pages, each of which target a specific keyword.

The second step of website structure is one that is frequently done incorrectly. It is not okay to have a “random link-anywhere” linking structure if you want to rank well on the search engines. Instead, you must have a hierarchical linking structure for the first one or two levels of pages on your website.

Your main index page should link to your “main” or “top-level” keyword pages - that is, the pages you would ultimately like to rank well for. Each of these pages can then in turn link to more specific keyword-focused pages. However they should not link to other pages on your website that are not “sub-pages” of the same top-level keyword page. The objective is to preserve the theme set by each top-level keyword page and only link to other pages within that theme.

This is not to suggest that visitors to your website have to be constrained to only click within a certain theme. You can indeed link anywhere you want as long as you use a “rel = nofollow” tag inserted into the link html. This tag instructs the search engine spiders to ignore the link, which preserves the theme and all the search engine “goodness” while still allowing your human visitors to browse your entire site unrestricted.

The third step is to create original content, focused on the keyword of each page. This content needs to be original, but the frequency (or density) with which the specific keyword appears on each page is less important now than it used to be. What matters more now is the existence of other words that are related to the theme of the keyword. In other words, if your page is about dog training, the search engines expect to see related words like obedience, treats, sit, stay, leash, collar, etc. in addition to the word “dog training.”

This type of indexing is called “latent semantic indexing” or LSI, and the idea behind it is that any article about dog training is bound to make reference to certain other related keywords. If no othe related keywords are present on the web page, the search engine spider is likely to conclude that the page is a “spam page” and its ranking will suffer accordingly.

The fourth step involves acquiring one-way inbound links from authority sites to the individual pages that you want to rank well on the search engines. When it comes to inbound links, there are three elements that matter: (1) the source of the link, (2) the page that is linked-to, and (3) the anchor text of the link.

The source of the link needs to be a respected third-party site, such as an article site, a news site, a directory site, or any other web site that the search engines already respect. Links from poorly-respected sites such as link farms will do nothing to help your search engine ranking and may in fact hinder it.

The page that is linked-to and the anchor text (the text that is blue and underlined) of the link matter a lot. Broadly speaking, the more “good” links that a page has to it, the better it will do on the search engines. In addition, the more times a particular keyword appears in the anchor text of “good” links to a particular page, the greater the likelihood that page will rank high for that keyword on the search engines.

And that’s all there is to it.

There is not a lot of mystery associated with good search engine ranking, regardless of what the SEO “tabloids” tell you.

So, armed with this knowledge, you can now assume a strong position to review and evaluate any search engine optimization services you consider hiring. Furthermore, with a little bit of initiative, you can take on the SEO tasks yourself and maintain complete control over your search engine marketing strategy. The choice is yours.

9 Things About SEO That Your Scared To Believe

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

If you own your own work from home business then you may be in need of some clarification. Below are nine things about internet marketing that you need to know if you want to achieve success.

1. Speak up

Its time to get heard, you may have been taught to stay in the foreground but this is the internet, and nows not the time to hide behind pages and pages of text. Get an audio up. One of the easiest ways to deliver content that will be remembered is to use an audio. Let your website do the talking.

2. Get outside the box

Every site needs traffic but not all methods of traffic generation are suitable for every business. If your getting traffic in but their not staying long enough to find why they should be doing business with you and if your website is producing a hi, oh wait, goodbye effect then you may need to adopt a different method of traffic generation instead of sticking with the conventional search engine optimization method.

3. Get a professional personality

Your website maybe focused on a hobby but it needs to have a professional voice. All the scripts, e-mails, seminars etc, should be presented in a professional and precise manner. Your presentation should always be compelling, memorable and unique.

4. Technology - Communication

Its not about technology, its about communication. You use the internet as a means to develop your business but at the end of the day its how you communicate yourself thats important. Your customers have to be able to understand you and feel connected.

This is not done with an excessive use of fancy gadgets; its done with good solid communication skills.

5. Linking out of business

Would you ever invite people to leave your website? Thats what you are doing when you have a lot of outbound links on your website. Does it make sense to get a visitor simply to have them leave seconds later?

6. Turn on your visitors, not off

A lot of websites have boring text. You want to seduce your visitors with an entertaining, imaginative, informative and memorable content. You may be the one writing it but someone else has to read it so dont waste their time with boring or self-prompting text.

7. Stop going keyword crazy

Content is one of the best ways to optimize with search engines. All your text gets indexed and search engines look for keywords. So what do people do? They repeat the same thing over and over again
because they are so focused on search engine optimization. You got your message across to the search engines but your readers are probably
confused and bored.

8. Avoid playing SEO catch up

Everyday it seems some tech wiz finds a new way to beat search engine algorithms. When search engines catch on they change their criteria. Good for the wiz kid, but not so good for you. You spend so much time playing SEO catch up that you lose focus on actually building your website.

There is such a thing as too much.

9. Did you get rid of all your images and multimedia and replace it with pages upon pages of text because you were worried about search engine optimization and load times. Did you stop and consider who is actually going to go through all that text.

Free Website Traffic in 90 Minutes

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

Here is a website traffic strategy that takes less than 90 minutes to implement, but generates free website traffic on an ongoing basis - potentially for years.

It operates on the principle that “long tail” keywords have very low competition, so your ability to rank on the first page of the search results on Google, Yahoo and MSN is not only easy, but fast as well.

Here is how you do it:

Use a keyword research tool like Wordtracker.com to research keywords related to the topic of your website. Use their “competition search” function in order to find out the number of competing websites on Google. (For more details on how to do this, click the link at the end of this article for a free resource guide.)

Browse through the keyword results and look for keywords with a predicted 24-hour search volume greater than 10, but with a “google” competing pages count of less than 1000.

Why a competition rate of 1000? Isn’t that a lot? Well surprisingly enough, the number of supposedly-competing pages is not really representative of the true number of pages actively trying to rank high for any given term.

The number simply represents how many web pages happen to contain the particular keyword phrase we’re looking at. In fact, taking any given competition number, probably as few as 1% of those web pages are actively trying to rank high for that keyword. That means that if there are 1,000 web pages bearing a particular keyword, only perhaps 10 of them are actively competing for it.

Thus with fewer than 10 active competitors, the prospect of ranking on the first page (i.e. the top 10) of search results is very good.

Let’s look at an example.

Suppose we do some keyword research for the keyword phrase “dog food.” Wordtracker shows that there will be a predicted 1358 searches every day for that term. However, there are 1.6 million competing web pages. For sure, ranking on the first page for that term could be a “home run” in terms of traffic, but there would be an enormous amount of competition for that first page. Even 1% of 1.6 million is still 16,000 active competitors.

The chances of outranking 15,990 of them are slim to none. This is a polite way of saying that shooting for that particular term is a gigantic waste of time. The predicted search volume of 1358 searches per day is a red herring. It’s distracting. It’s irrelevant. It only matters to the top 10 web pages, and that isn’t going to be you. So don’t let it sway you into wasting time targeting that keyword.

Instead, consider some of the “long tail” keyword phrases, their predicted daily search volume, and their competing web pages:

“top ten dog foods”, 88 searches/day, 1040 competing web pages
“hypoallergenic dog food”, 86 searches/day, 539 competing web pages
“best dog foods ranked”, 86 searches/day, 1010 competing web pages
“best dry dog food”, 70 searches/day, 511 competing web pages
“dog raw food diet”, 68 searches/day, 333 competing web pages
“recipes for homemade dog foods”, 67 searches/day, 110 competing web pages

And the list goes on. And on.

So, just for these 6 terms alone, there are an estimated 465 searches per day. If you could rank on the first page of the search results, how much traffic do you think you’d get? Well clearly it would depend on whether you were in the first one or two spots, or lower down the page. But assuming just 10% of the searchers visited your website, that’s still 46 visitors per day just by targeting 6 achievable keywords.

Think how much traffic you’d get if you targeted 60. Or 600.

But before we get too carried away, we have to talk about two more steps. Knowing what keywords to target is crucial, but actually doing the work to compete for them is what makes everything work.

First, you need to create a web page on your website that caters to the desired term. Your best results will come if you “theme” your website, so that all the web pages that talk about dog food, for example, link only to other pages that talk about dog food, and not to any other topics or websites.

Then on the specific page in question, you need to create some content. Not necessarily a huge amount - but some. You need to include the keyword phrase you are targeting in the Title tag of your web page, and again a number of times in the text on your web page. Don’t over-do it, but just write naturally using your keyword whenever it makes sense to do so.

Don’t over-think your web content. It’s important, but not critical. The really important bit comes next.

Write an article. Make it 400-600 words and write it “about” whatever keyword phrase you want to target. At the end of the article, you have a “resource box” in which you can place a link back to your website. Instead of merely linking to your domain name, link directly to the keyword-specific page you just created. And when forming the link, ensure that the keyword phrase appears in the text of the link (called the “anchor text”).

Then distribute your article to article sites around the Internet. You can submit it to sites like ezinearticles.com and isnare.com for good exposure. You can also sign up for a service such as articlemarketer.com for maximum exposure.

Over the coming weeks, your article will be picked up by dozens - perhaps hundreds - of websites, all linking back to your new web page. It won’t be long before your new web page rockets to the top of the search engines.

So, how much of your time does this whole operation take? It depends. Probably less than 90 minutes. Keyword research takes about 10 minutes, writing web page content about 20 minutes, and writing and distributing a short article about an hour.

Of course, it won’t be long before you’ll want to hire out the task of article and content writing. This way you’ll get far more web pages done because you’ll have other people doing the work. Elance.com or rentacoder.com are excellent venues to find writers who will create content and articles for you for between $5 and $10 per article.

This strategy is tremendously scaleable and can bring you an enormous amount of free website traffic. It has brought success to many an Internet marketer, and it will for you too if you simply follow it. There are new keywords and phrases being used every day as new products are invented and new ideas become popular. This means that the supply of achievable “long tail” keywords will never be exhausted and you can have as much free website traffic as you want.

SEO For The Starving Marketer

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

Hiring an expert for SEO is not a possibility if you are starting your internet business on a shoestring.

Consider learning SEO yourself as an advantage

Why do I say this? Because learning SEO yourself will get you grounded in your business. You need to know your internet business inside and out if you want it to be a moneymaking business.

The other reason is to prepare you for the future when your internet business takes off, expands and you have the funds to outsource some of your tasks as well as the need to do so. Once your business expands you’ll need to outsource some things so you can free up your time for the creative and income producing elements.

Your business needs to be managed and overseen by you. If you have grounded yourself, learned SEO and how it works, you will be better able to choose and oversee a service or indiviaual who handles SEO for your business.

You will need to inter-act with your SEO service so you know what measures they are taking in behalf of your business. There are techniques that can bring short and lucrative rewards to an online business, but that can come back to haunt you later on. You will need to understand what the SEO expert is doing, and why, and be able to evaluate the long term effects for yourself.

SEO is not an exact science

Knowing about SEO is a matter of testing and observation, as opposed to just having specific rules and facts for a basis.

The search engines only impart a small amount of information about their inner workings. They do publish some guidelines, but much is unknown, and the search engines like to keep it that way. They also change things periodically just to make it more interesting, and confusing.

In my wildest moments of thought I often wonder if the people working at the search engines aren’t in much the same situation as the people who worked on the atom bomb. I see them in their own seperate work cubicles, and each only allowed to work on so much of the puzzle, and sworn to an oath of strict secrecy. Not totally far-fetched.

SEO is about observation and testing

We all, as babies, learned to walk by observing what worked and trying it ourselves. We tested. Sometimes we fell on our behinds. We observed some more and tested again until we got it right.

Do know the hard and fast rules of the search engines, so you don’t get in trouble. Then observe and test. Which SEO methods are working for others? What are successful sites doing in terms of SEO? Read some ebooks on SEO. Visit some of the forums that specialize in SEO. Evaluate what you read and hear.

Not everyone at a forum is an expert in SEO or anything else, but when you hear the same thing over and over, there may be something to it.

Do learn SEO for yourself. Go to the search engines and see what they have to say. By all means read what they do not allow. Visit some forums, do some reading, and tweak and test until you find the SEO techniques that work well for your internet business.

Uncomplicated Website Search Engine Positioning

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

The greatest thing about getting high ranking positions in the major search engines is that it’s 100% free. This is also the reason why it’s difficult to attain the top positions in markets outside of very tight niches.

Search engine optimization can seem a very complicated process and if you want to make it that way, you can. You can spend a lifetime studying the search engine logarithms and every little keyword trick to position your website higher, but the problem is - the major search engines, like Google, keep changing the rules.

Anything I write here may not even apply 6 months from now but what I have learnt from my own experience, getting top search engine placement is a simple process. That’s right - Simple!

Simple does not mean that you do not have to do any work. Like most of my other online strategies I have to work hard to gain top placements. Also my experiences apply to only Google. I really don’t care about the others at this point as Google provides high quality traffic and the lions’ share of it too.

I have proven through my own methods that only two things matter - 1. The title of your page. 2. The backlinks to your sites.

I would even go as far to say that the title does not even matter all that much. The backlinks are the things that drive you up the search engines more than anything else. If you concentrate on this area above all others, you will do well.

When I refer to backlinks, I mean one way backlinks. Reciprocal linking used to be the main thing but I have found that this strategy has lost much of the power it would have had a few years ago. I still use reciprocal linking BUT my main concern are links from site where I do not have to link back.

A backlink with your keyword phrase in the linkback text is worth it’s weight in gold.

I have taken many of my sites to the top of Google with numerous highly competitive keyword phrases. I have not optimized the main content of the pages, nor have I messed with the title much either, other than to put some keywords in the six word title tag.

So it can be done, and it works. If I could put images in this article I could show you the top postions that I have achieved. Feel free to get in touch with me and I can show you proof.

Apply the simple process of getting one way backlinks in a niche market and the strategy becomes all the more powerful and rewarding.

You can believe that search engine optimization is for the elite only, and never get started. Or, take the jump now and do some testing for yourself. You will find that the only things that search engine experts are doing that you aren’t is putting in the hours. There is nothing complicated about it!

Quality Keyword Analysis

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

Extracting good keywords can mean the difference between mediocre to poor results or Real Success to your online business. Keywords are what drive the search engines and are the Key to having people find your online business.

How are we supposed to find Great keywords?

What is a great keyword? (550 Words In Just The Article)

Well, Depends on your use of keywords but I am assuming that you want your site optimized for the search engines. Search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Microsoft Network (MSN); provide 90 to 95 % of the traffic to websites.

Commercial website owners want traffic to their sites for different reasons. Some want to sell a product or service right there on the spot. Others want to Pre-sell a product and then send the visitors to a sales page. Some website owners want traffic so the people will click on advertisements on their site and this will generate income for the site owner.

So, keywords are critical to success for the site owners. Keywords can be one word or a string of words, e.g. “books” and “book binding methods” are two keywords. One is a single word long the other has multiple words to it and represents the way most people type in search terms to find information.

Few people would type “books” into a search engine; the result would be overwhelming and very broad.

But someone might type in “book binding methods” because that could represent a real interest of theirs.

So, specific keywords are usually more valuable than broad keywords since the subject is more targeted to a particular niche audience.

Now, here is where we start to get to the basics of quality keyword analysis.

If you were to optimize your site using high traffic keywords you would probably be buried back in the search results. The high traffic keywords are very hard to get decent ranking with.

To get your site in the first 10 to 20 search results in the search engines you need to use less competitive keywords for your site topic.

Take “health insurance” as an example. That keyword probably costs advertisers big bucks to use and to have a website that ranks in the 1 to 20 range at the search engines is costly. Lots of people search using that keyword and the competition to get that traffic is extremely fierce.

So smaller websites, without deep pockets want to find keywords that are not as competitive but still draw a decent amount of traffic.

With “health insurance” you might want to try “health insurance for 40 year olds”. That is very specific and is probably not worth the big boys going after it so you could stand a good chance of ranking highly for that keyword!

I like to have a list of quality, high dollar, high traffic keywords to use on my websites and in my articles. My website has Google Adsense ads that return a good income when people click on the ads. Google will pay me, as a website publisher, a portion of the revenue of the ad if someone clicks an ad on my site.

I don’t worry about competition for the high traffic keywords because I drive traffic to my sites by submitting articles to article directories and not from search engine optimization.

Number of Keywords on a Page

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

One of the most accepted ways to catch the eye of a search engine spider is to optimize the number of keywords on a Web page. By keywords, we mean the core subject described on the Web page, or a particular word or phrase a person wants the search engine to find in cyberspace.

For the best SEO results, the keywords must be repeated at least three to four times within a page of text. There are no defined limits to the number of times the keywords can be used, but ideally they must not be used too often or too infrequently. For keyword phrases (combinations of several keywords), you must take care that the keyword phrases are repeated several times throughout the text, with each of word in the phrase appearing in the exact order every time. Additionally, each word in the keyword phrase must be used often and independently elsewhere in the text.

For example, if the keyword phrase is “SEO optimization,” the whole phrase should be used a number of times in the text body, and the individual words “SEO” and “optimization” should appear spread throughout the text independently a number of times. As a rule of thumb, if the key phrase “SEO optimization” is used 10 times, the individual word “SEO” can be used 7 times and “optimization” can appear 5 times. This is not a set pattern, but it represents the general picture of keyword/key phrase distribution.

Another way to describe the number of keywords on a page is the term “keyword density.” In fact, this is how Web designers explain the arrangement of keywords on a Web page. Keyword density denotes the frequency of times a keyword appears in the given text. It is usually expressed in percentages. For example, a keyword appearing 6 times on a page of 100 words has a keyword density of 6 percent.

Paying attention to keyword density is important because if the keyword density is too low, search engines pay scant attention to the page. Likewise, if a keyword density that is too high could invite trouble if the search engines regard it as spam and activate the spam filter for that particular Web page. If the latter occurs, Google will penalize the Web page and demote the Web site’s ranking. Very simply, maintaining keyword density is like a tightrope walk, with very little room for error. It is hit or miss at its very best!

For optimal search engine response, keyword density on a particular Web page must ideally hit between 5 and 7 percent. In the case of keyword phrases, the total density of the individual words in the phrase must also fall within these limits. Anything more than 7 percent could be counterproductive, as it is detrimental to your SEO success and also spoils the readability of the page’s content.

Another aspect of keyword use that could ratchet up your success with search engine response is the number of keywords used intelligently at the start of the page or in the headings. Search engines generally place more weight on keyword density at the upper portion of a Web page. Also, keywords used in the title tag, those in strong/bold font, and keywords or key phrases featuring links to other pages could influence search results phenomenally.

To conclude, keywords are vital for improving the rankings of any Web page. But you must use caution to use them often enough to positively affect the search results, but not so often that the spiders consider them spam. Once Google or other search engines penalize a Web page for its contents or ungentlemanly behavior, it becomes very difficult to regain the lost ground

How to Get Top Search Engine Rankings

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

The methods used to increase your search engine rankings may seem like rocket science to you, so you have probably avoided dealing with optimizing your site. I am here to tell you - the time has come to face your website!

A high search engine ranking for your website is so essential that if you have the slightest desire to actually succeed in your business, there is no way you can continue to avoid this issue.

At least 85% of people looking for goods and services on the Internet find websites through search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN. The idea of optimizing your pages for high search engine rankings is to attract targeted customers to your site who will be more than likely to make a purchase. The higher your page comes up in search engine results, the greater the traffic that is directed to your website. That’s what search engine optimization is about.

You can immerse yourself in all the technical information available online to figure out how to optimize your web pages to achieve higher rankings. Or you can look at a few simple items on your pages, make some small adjustments, and most likely see improved rankings quite rapidly. The first item you should examine is the title bar on your homepage.

The title bar is the colored bar at the top of the page. Look at the words that appear there when you access your home page. To increase search engine rankings, the words on your homepage’s title bar should include the most important keywords or phrases, one of which would include your
company name.

Then click on all your links and examine the title bars on the pages you access. Each title bar on every single page of your site should contain the most important keywords and phrases taken from the page itself. However, avoid very long strings of keywords, keeping them to six words or less. Avoid repeating keywords more than once in the title bars, and make sure that identical words are not next to each other.

The next item to put under your microscope is your website content. Search engines generally list sites that contain quality content rather than scintillating graphics. The text on your site must contain the most important keywords - the words that potential customers will be typing into search engines to find your site.

Aim to have around 250 words on each page, but if this is not desirable due to your design, aim for at least 100 carefully chosen words. If you want to achieve a high ranking on search engines, this text is essential. However, the search engines must be able to read the text, meaning that the text must be in HTML and not graphic format.

To find out if your text is in HTML format, take your cursor and try to highlight a word or two. If you are able to do this, the text is HTML. If the text will not highlight, it is probably in graphic form. In this case, ask your webmaster to change the text into HTML format in order to increase your search engine rankings.

Next we come to what is called meta tags. I know this sounds like something out of science fiction, but it is really just simple code. Many people believe that meta tags are the key to high search engine rankings, but in reality, they only have a limited effect. Still, it’s worth adding them in the event that a search engine will use meta tags in their ranking formula.

To find out if your page is set up with meta tags, you must access the code. To do this, click the “view” button on the browser menu bar, and select “source.” This will pull up a window revealing the underlying code that created the page.

If there are meta tags, they usually appear near the top of the window. For example, a meta tag would read: meta name=”keywords” content=. If you do not find code that reads like this, ask your webmaster to put them in. This may not do much for your search engine rankings, but any little boost helps.

Lastly, we come to the issue of link popularity. This is a factor that is extremely important in terms of search engine rankings. Almost all search engines use link popularity to rank your website. Link popularity is based on the quality of the sites you have linked to from your links page.

If you type in “free link popularity check” in a popular search engine, the search engine will then show you what sites are linked to your site. In the case that there aren’t many sites linked up to yours, or that the sites that are linked up have low search engine rankings, consider launching a link popularity campaign.

Essentially, this entails contacting quality sites and requesting that they exchange links with your site. Of course, this requires checking out the rankings of the websites you want to link up with. Linking to popular, quality sites not only boosts your search engine ranking, but it also directs more quality traffic to your website.

Search engine rankings are extremely important for a successful Internet marketing campaign. Before you go out and hire a search engine optimization company, try taking some of the simple steps listed above, and see if you can’t boost your rankings yourself. Don’t ever ignore this all-important factor in Internet marketing.

Remember, the higher your search engine ranking, the more quality customers will be directed your way.

Keywords And How To Use Them

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

What are keywords and why are they so important in optimizing your website?

Keywords, basically, are the words or phrases that are most associated with the subject of your business. These are the terms that people will most likely use to search for information about the topic of your website.

For example, your website is dedicated to the general subject of “cat care”. The keywords that are applicable for your business should be:

cat care
care cat
care of a cat
cat care clinic
cat care society
care of my cat
take care of my cat
take care of a cat
cat health care
to take care of a cat
how to take care of a cat
care for a cat
care of cat
care for cat
care of your cat
to care for a cat
how to care for a cat
taking care of a cat
cat dental care
persian cat care

There are more, most definitely, but these examples should give you a good idea on how to come up with the most effective keywords for your online business.

You could manually think of 1000s of applicable keywords, but such would be a brain buster. Instead, check out the tools found on the following website:
https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordSandbox

The features on this site will give you a lot of suggestions for possible keywords which you can use. Once you have selected your keywords, it’s time to put them to good use. Here are the things that you should do with them:

Populate your website’s content with the keywords. Try to insert 2 to 4 keywords per 100 words. This will give you a 2 to 4 percent density level, which many experts believe is the optimal amount of keywords to attract the attention of the search engine spiders without compromising the logical integrity of your content.

Remember, just because you use the keywords in your content, doesn’t mean that the readability of your content should be sacrificed. Always keep in mind that you have to keep your content informative.

Insert the keywords in your meta tags. Meta tags are HTML codes that help the search engine spiders to identify your web pages. Simply include the following tag in your source code:

Please Note: In each of the HTML instances below, to create PROPER html tags you will need to replace [ ] characters with HTML tags.

[META name=”keywords” content=”(place your keywords here with each term separated by a comma)”]

Meta tags should also be present for your title, with the use of the tag [title], as well as your headlines, with the use of the tag [h1], [h2], [h3] and so on and so forth.

Here’s an example of a title tag for your source code:
[title]An Introduction To Cat Care[title]

And here’s an example of a headline tags:
[h1]Why Should You Care For Your Cat?[h1]

[body](the appropriate part of your content goes here)[body]

[h2]How To Start Caring or Your Cat[h2]

[body](the appropriate part of your content goes here)[body]

Use your keywords in your ALT tags. ALT tags is the alternative text that appears every time the mouse cursor passes over an image. It is advisable that you have a working knowledge of HTML for this, though most HTML editors like Microsoft Front Page and Macromedia Dreamweaver have features that will make this easier.

It is important to note how search engine spiders read your website. Once they have pinpointed your page, courtesy of the meta tags in your source code, the search engine spiders will read your content from the uppermost left part of the page going to the extreme right, and back left in the next line, much like how a web surfer will view your site.

It is therefore essential that the uppermost left portion of your webpage contains your keywords. This can be done by including the said keywords in your title.

Your first paragraph is critical. Make sure to include your keywords in the very first sentence, and also try to mention your keywords at least twice in the rest of the paragraph. Succeeding paragraphs need only mention your keywords at least once.

Divide your content into paragraphs, and introduce a shift in subtopic with a sub-headline. The sub-headline should also include your keywords.

Lastly, about the bottom-most right portion of a web page, many people are actually having a hard time figuring out how to include the keywords in this section. Here’s a simple trick. The bottom-most right portion of a page is usually reserved for your copyright notice. In our running example of a business involved with cat care, where “cat care” are the primary keywords, you could use the copyright format below:

“Know Thy Enemy” and Then Thrash Them at Their Own Game

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

Much as I would love to say that your success solely depends on how you build your business, I cannot. You see, much like in real life, you will need to compete to attain success. In Internet marketing, you will have to compete against the greatest and most innovative competition anywhere online.

The fact that Internet Marketing is so competitive is the reason for the massive growth in niche marketing where the competition is less fierce. In such a competitive market and even in the smaller markets you need to adopt a particular strategy to make sure you stand a good chance of getting your message seen at all by interested prospects.

The trick? You must beat your competition at their own game, of course. And the only way to do that is to “know thy enemy”.

There are a number of ways to do this and resources to make your job a lot easier. Time is the most valuable commodity you have and if there is a way to save time by investing a little cash then I suggest you do this.

Run a search of your more popular keywords in any search engine. The results will reveal the number of websites targeting your market. Each and everyone of them is your competition. The ones at the top 10 in the first page of the results should be your targets. Your goal is to topple them from their position.

And you WILL be able to accomplish this by first knowing what they’re doing right.

Try to visit their website and observe the way of how they do things. How are their keywords positioned? How are their pages designed? How is their content laid out? How is their information presented?

At the top of your browser click “view” then “source” this will show you the inner html workings of the page you are on. Have a look at the alt tags in the page, are they laden with keyword phrases?

What keywords are your competitors targeting in the meta tags?

One of the most important things you need to know about your competition is which, and how many websites are linking to them. I use Brad Callen’s SEO Elite to find out this info.

With this info in hand your task then would be to get the same linkbacks and more. It is unlikely that the top rankings in your determined keyword phrase are all linking to the same websites. So take the top 10, find out all their link partners and beat their link popularity by swapping links with a greater number.

Especially target those link partners with high Google ranking. The aforementioned tool will give you all the required info. Google rankings of 0 PR should be ignored.

The golden rule in beating your competition is by copying what works for them and improving on the same.

Retain what works and discard what doesn’t.

I hope you found this article helpful.

Do-It-Yourself SEO: How to Get Started

Search Engine Optimization No Comments

Search engine optimization is the top way that visitors find websites today. So how do you optimize your website?

Selecting Keywords
Keywords are the terms that you expect targeted prospects will use in search engines to find your company.

Choose Keywords Associated with Your Company’s Focus
When selecting keyword, start by selecting keywords that best describe your company’s focus. For example, if your company sells athletic shoes, keywords like “athletic shoes” or “tennis shoes”.Be sure to account for plural versus singular versions of keywords, such as “shoe” vs. “shoes” as Google currently treats plural and singular versions of keywords as two different words.

Avoid Broad Keywords
Don’t choose terms that could be considered too broad in scope. For example, the keyword “shoes” would be too broad for an athletic shoe company. A searcher who enters the keyword “shoes” in a search engine query may be looking for a variety of shoe types, such as “horse shoes” or “nursing shoes” — items which an athl
