How to Get a Free PlayStation 3

Computer Games No Comments

In a fury, the public greeted the latest craze in gaming consoles as the Playstation 3 hit the entertainment world. Through a series of huge Sony marketing schemes, you could not go anywhere without hearing or feeling the anticipation for a product that promised better graphics, color, sound, and other exciting features. The popularity of the Playstation 3 also made it possible for Ebay resellers and independent retailers to markup the price of owning one of these units, especially in time for the Christmas season.

The desire to get a hold of this popular gaming console drove the public deeper into their pockets, so when the chance to obtain a free Playstation comes about, many will jump at the opportunity. To further the interest in the Playstation 3, Sony held a slew of local and national promotions offered both on the Internet and offline. Others caught on to this particular idea as a way to tap into a lucrative goldmine, offering their own giveaways. Below, you will find some of the ways people may acquire a Playstation at no cost:

Radio
Disc jockeys use promotional giveaways as a common technique to keep radio fans listening. If you periodically check your favorite radio station, you may find a contest involving Playstation 3. For country, jazz, or classical music fans, you might want to linger a bit on radio stations geared towards pop, rock, and hip-hop, which are more likely to offer a free Playstation as an incentive.

Television
News stations often offer giveaways for loyal viewers. It never hurts to see what type of contest or promotional gimmick they are using to increase viewer-ship. Do not feel like catching the news? Pay a visit to their website where contests are also advertised. Most often, you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire in order to participate.

Internet
Although there are numerous websites offering a chance to win a free Playstation through a variety of promotional giveaways, it is important to check the legitimacy of sites. There are tons of impostors, who wish to gain your personal information and will do anything to lure you to the bait. Offering a Playstation at no cost is just the thing to tempt the unsuspecting.

Charities & Fundraising
Some students have been able to win fun items, such as a free Playstation when participating in fundraising and other charity functions. Whether it is selling the most Girl Scout cookies or collecting the highest amount of canned food, some organizations offer prizes for the most productive participants.

Giveaways
Malls, department stores, and especially electronic stores are known for giving away popular gifts or products through a wide range of contests. Sometimes kiosks situated in a store or shopping mall will capture the attention of the public, enticing them to fill out forms for a prize drawing. Since the Playstation 3 is such a popular entertainment system, the chances of encountering such an offer are pretty high.

Participation Reward
On the Internet, there are many opportunities to win prizes through participation. For instance, when you fill out a survey, your personal information can be entered into a prize raffle or drawing. Some websites will increase the number of times your name is entered into a giveaway according to the total amount of surveys you fill out.

With so many places to get your hands on a free playstation, you should go out there and try your luck.

The Most Popular RPG Computer Games

Computer Games No Comments

The introduction of computer games has changed that early fact significantly. Computer games have added a fresh dimension to the way in which both children and adults play either individually or collectively.

In addition computer games such as World of Warcraft Gold (WOW Gold), Guild Wars, Final Fantasy and Dungeons and Dragons have also broadened the perspective of players by introducing them to a scenario whereby resources, supplies and a variety of strengths and weaknesses of available manpower and weapons perform to create a strategic environment in which the skill and mastery of strategic thinking becomes necessary in order to win.

War has always been one of the most popular games played by children and no self-respecting male adult will likely have grown into adulthood without possessing a few fond memories of his toys soldiers. Computer games have added the dimension that was always missing with toy soldiers by bringing to life the characters that once required human imagination to conjure with. Computer games also provide realistic landscapes, strategic maps and an assortment of weaponry that begins with a club and continues into a future that can only be speculated. Coincidentally that speculation is the result of the imagination of an inventor who themselves probably have fond memories of toy soldiers and who simply wanted to go one step further and provided the virtual reality in which to do so.

Today strategic or role playing computer games are a dominant feature found inside every computer games store. Importantly computer games have come of age in that they are no longer played on a one to one basis i.e. human player versus computer. Today we have the Massively Multi-Player Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) which allows for a large number of players to interact on a virtual world.

The most popular MMORPG computer game on the planet is possibly not the one most people automatically expect - WOW Gold is certainly hugely successful with around 8 million players world-wide while Everquest a 3D fantasy game attracts around half a million players. It would be remiss not to mention the long time favourite Dungeons and Dragons which has attracted more than 20 million players world-wide and is recognized in the industry as the game that triggered the mushroom of strategy games that now surrounds us.

However the most played game on the planet is none of these. In 1998 a game called Lineage entered the market and since then has attracted in excess of 30 million players world-wide. Lineage originates from South Korea and is a medieval fantasy strategy based game that utilizes elves, knights, wizards and prince/princess characters. As an MMORPG - Lineage has proved very successful and its development into Lineage II has progressed with new updates and expansion packs every six months. Lineage II was introduced into the United States in 2004 and by December of that year the “Chronicle II: Age of Splendour” update/expansion pack arrived. By September 2006 “Chronicle 5: Oath of Blood” was being marketed. However the next update is being marketed under a new banner as “Lineage II - The Chaotic Throne” and is referred to as Interlude.

Don’t Just Role Play, MMORPG It!

Computer Games No Comments

When role playing games were first introduced in the mid-1970s, they had a relatively small market, just small groups of high school students meeting in the cafeteria with pencils and dice in hand. Today, with the increased popularity of computers, participation in role-playing games has exploded with literally millions of people all over the world and from all walks of life enjoying the excitement of RPG’s.

Role Playing Game Basics

Simply put, an RPG is any game where players take the roles of fictional characters and organize to tell a story together. Of course, this is an admittedly broad definition. Nonetheless, it captures the idea that storytelling is what role playing games are really all about.

Not surprisingly, given how broad the above definition is, and the natural flexibility of RPG’s, there are many different types of games covering a host of genres. The very first role-playing games centered around fantasy stories with wizards and dragons, knights and elves roaming across of mythical landscape. They quickly expanded to include science fiction stories with aliens and ray guns. Today, RPG’s centered around historical situations, espionage, military actions, and horror can be found.

Different Role Playing Games

There are three broad types of role playing game: traditional RPG’s, live action RPG’s, and computer RPG’s.

In traditional role-playing games, participants sit around a table and act out the story verbally, with one person taking on a role similar to a narrator. Usually dice are used to determine the outcome of specific actions.

Taking the game away from the tabletop and into the wider world, many adherents believe that the best way to really inhabit another character is to get up and try to be that person. Thus the development of live action role-playing games, some with rules as strict as traditional role-playing games, but most with a more flexible structure. Whereas traditional role-playing games can be thought of as story telling, live action role-playing games more closely resemble theater.

Role-playing games made the jump to computers relatively early. At first, however, computer role-playing games just tried to simulate traditional role-playing games; in a sense, the computer was just used to make things easier for the players. With the development of network technology, computers allowed participants to play with each other regardless of physical distance. Live action role-playing gamers have also used computers to help develop a flexible rule-free style of play.

Role Playing Games and MMORPGs

The increasing popularity of massive multiplayer online role playing games, commonly known as MMORPGs, has been the most significant development in role playing games in the last decade. Today it is estimated that as many as 15 million people worldwide are playing MMORPGs. In MMORPGs, participants, as in all other role-playing games, take on the role of a character. What makes MMORPGs significant, however, is that thousands of participants can interact in a virtual universe, a universe that keeps going whether an individual user is in the system or not. Like traditional role-playing games, MMORPGs are situated in a variety of universes, from fantasy to science fiction.

RTS Video Game Supreme Commander Is A Step Up

Computer Games No Comments

There once was a time when RTS games were archaic and simple, which was not that long ago to be quite frank, but things have changed quite dramatically in a very short time. Real time strategy video games for your PC are starting to move up in quality allowing the players to wage all out war on the web with large scale battlefields and impressive graphics. Of course, some games are better than others, but there is a new one called Supreme Commander that is a level above the rest.

When it was released on February 20th, 2007 by Gas Powered Games, Supreme Commander was received with great expectations. The long-awaited release has finally arrived and it has proven that this RTS video game is everything it was promised to be and more. Players can engage in multiple land, air and sea battles at the same time as they transport troops via large aircraft, send devastating air attacks with bombers, descend upon their enemies with tank divisions or even wipe out an enemy position with a nuclear weapon.

Just a decade ago RTS games were still in their infancy. The internet was something that could only be accessed via relatively slow telephone lines. Real time interaction was slow and primitive. Early games just did not have the benefit of advanced technology such as fast computers and broadband internet connections.

Although early RTS video games were fun, they were not very impressive in terms of style. Technology just could not keep up with the creative concepts of the designers of these games. The earnest players of these early games did not mind though, because they were just happy to step out of the pre-determined format of Playstation, Nintendo, and Xbox games.

In the beginning RTS games offered a new format where you could actually be part of the game as well as the process of the outcome. Gamers were just glad to be doing something new, different and challenging. After all, these were games that you could access on the internet and do battle with people from all over the world! That alone was impressive for the time.

Until recently, RTS video games were more about doing battle with economics and tactics than they were about using complex strategies to wage war on a large scale. Supreme Commander is a whole different story for it gives PC game players a game with incredibly large scale battlefields.

While it is set in the far-away future, Supreme Commander uses modern warfare tactics and strategies to wage war. There are three factions of humans left and they are all fighting for something different. The United Earth Federation believes in order and empire, the cybernetic Cybran group is fighting for independence and the alien-enlightened Aeon group is seeking to liberate the Universe.

In the past, bigger is better has not always been the idea in mind for the developers of RTS video games. But that has changed now that technology has improved greatly.

Supreme Commander embraces the idea of vastness like a Park Ranger in Alaska. There are large scale battlefields that average 20km x 20km in size, and some that are an incredibly large size of 81km x 81km!

This game does offer somewhat complex strategy possibilities, but it is first and foremost about scale. Players can devise plans that involve creating large armies that can fight simultaneously across huge areas. While it is mostly about size, the challenging gameplay has a variety of victory scenarios along with exhilarating multi-player action that plays out like a Monopoly game with lethal weapons.

With all the recent publicity that Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 have received regarding their impressive new technological advances, it is good to see that real time strategy video games on the web are keeping pace with them. While some games are better than others Supreme Commander is at the top of the list. The large scale battlefields this game offers is quite impressive as it allows the players to wage all out war with multiple armies at the same time.

Size is the most impressive aspect, but it also offers complex gameplay with multiple scenarios for victory. Also, the fast pace in which the action plays out will challenge even the most adept cyber warriors.

Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games

Computer Games No Comments

Since the birth of the internet, online games have been keeping thousands of people entertained worldwide. No matter what type of game you love - the World Wide Web has you covered. From Bingo to Checkers, there are hundreds of opportunities to connect with others and play twenty four hours a day. Recently, a new form of internet pleasure has become one of the most addicting and entertaining games of the year. For many, MMORPG and MUD games have taken over the industry.

For those who do not know, MMORPG actually stands for Massively-Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games. In simpler terms, this means that hundreds of users role play and are able to virtually interact with one another. Fortunately, there are dozens of different types of MMORPG games on the market. Many of these virtual role playing worlds include the ability to not only compete with other players in different countries, but to also personally get to know them. For many game addicts, it is an entirely different world - one that is much more peaceful and interesting than the one they live in. Generally, these role playing worlds tend to resemble a fairytale, complete with dragons and princesses.

While these games are widely popular today, they actually have been alive for many years. In the early 1970’s, two gameaholics named Richard Bartle and Roy Trubshaw created a role playing game through early multi user domains. Many of these games were accessed by a Telnet service. Through this client, users were able to play as many role playing games as they’d like. As a result, more games began to appear around the world. The first mainstream product was sold to the public in 1984. The game, Islands of Kesmai, was extremely expensive, and the graphics were anything but impressive. However, as the market grew, hundreds of different services popped up. For instance, Meridian 59 was released in 1996 and created a massive following. While it was one of the first internet games, it actually allowed users to pay a subscription fee, rather than pay by the hour. This change in gaming made thousands of people switch to this form of MMORPG. Due to its uniqueness and customer satisfaction, the network actually still exists today and has more users than ever.

Since the early 1990’s, MMORPG and MUD games have been swamping the internet. However, in the new millennium, technology has taken a giant leap in the gaming industry. With successes like Final Fantasy XI and Lineage II, users are able to not only see the game through the character’s eyes, but have an entire experience with the world. It is incredible for a game lover to be able to fight dragons and other characters with other role playing users. With the constant evolution of games and the internet, it is not impossible for this particular industry to climb even higher and become even more successful. Soon these role playing games will turn into virtual reality havens; places for users to meet other users and characters on an entirely different level. The opportunities are certainly endless for every type of MMORPG.

12 Smart Trading RuneScape Tip

Computer Games No Comments

When you play RuneScape trading is everything! Here are twelve smart RuneScape tips to give you a significant edge over other RuneScape players.

1. Never buy anything from a RuneScape shop (unless it’s stackable) because it will be more expensive than trading with a RuneScape friend.

2. Don’t get scammed! There’s no worse feeling in the world than knowing you just lost a few million RuneScape gold to some stupid guy with a stupid idea.

3. When you play RuneScape, don’t scam yourself! Just like in real life, always know about the RuneScape item you’re buying or selling to get a fair deal.

4. There are a lot of honest people out there playing RuneScape but there are always a few people that will scam, cheat or lie for a few RuneScape coins.

5. Scammers often come up with creative ways to con you at RuneScape like pulling an item at the last minute hoping you’ll click “Accept” fast or telling you they are Jagex staff to get your RuneScape password.

6. When you spot a RuneScape scammer, the best way to deal with him or her is to completely ignore them.

7. Don’t feel obligated to do anything when playing RuneScape!

8. Many people like to try to “befriend” lots of higher-level RuneScape players. Of course, a lot of the advanced RuneScape players are genuinely nice people. However, beware of RuneScape players that cozy up to you, act really nice and do you a few small favors but then turn around and ask for something really big (like a RuneScape party hat) just because they did a couple of little things for you while playing the game.

9. Remember that all RuneScape trades are not equal. You might feel guilty about not giving people anything in return, which is perfectly normal. But if what another RuneScape player asks for is ridiculous, just tell them no. Period.

10. If they bully you or keep demanding an unfair RuneScape trade just remove them or block them.

11. When you play RuneScape, don’t let anyone take advantage of you or manipulate you into doing something you don’t want to do.

12. It is very important to know the value of the RuneScape items you are trading because you can scam yourself out of a lot of gold simply by not knowing what a RuneScape item is worth! This simple RuneScape rule may mean a little extra work on your part. But if you’re committed to being a top RuneScape player, this one tip alone will save you lots of trouble.

For example, another RuneScape player could have something you really want like a rune scimitar and they are right in front of you selling it for 35k! You think to yourself “I can spare the money. They might sell it soon and I’ll lose my chance to buy the RuneScape item.” Sound familiar? But if you buy it without knowing the fair market price you could also easily be scamming yourself out of precious RuneScape gold.

Seriously, if you don’t know the price of a RuneScape item, there’s a good chance the person selling it does and is looking to make a profit at your expense. So don’t take the chance: always check prices before you buy or sell anything while playing RuneScape.

Runescape 2 Thieving
Thieving is a very useful Members-Only skill in Runescape 2. To make a lot of money you will need at least 50 Thieving. Use the following steps to increase your level in Runescape 2 Thieving level.

* Level 1-10, pickpocket Men in Edgeville 145 times.
* Level 10-30, steal cakes from the Baker’s Stall in Ardougne 764 times.
* Level 30-50, pickpocket Al Kharid Warriors 3,384 times.

Now you will be able to pickpocket guards easily and get good amount of Runescape 2 money or gp.

* Level 50-70, pickpocket guards 13,684 times to steal 410,500gp
* Level 70-80, pickpocket watchmen to steal 364,520 Runescape 2 money and 9,113 bread
* At level 80, pickpocket Paladins to make 100,000gp an hour

Runescape 2 High Alchemizing
In Runescape 2 to use the High Alchemy magic spell, you need at least 55 Magic. Firstly, decide what you think may be the quickest for you to make. If you have a high enough Mining and Smithing level, you can smith Steel Platemail. Someone who has a high Fletching level can make Yew or Magic bows.

Runescape 2 Mining
Mining is one of the most vital skills in RuneScape 2. You should have at least 40 Mining. At a 40 Mining it is easier to mine Coal. Even though you only need 30 Mining for Coal, it would be much more difficult to mine it at that level in Runescape 2. You should also buy either an Adamantite or Rune pick.

For Members, a great place to mine coal is near Ardougne, and a bank is nearby. Free-Players can mine in the Dwarven mines, but in Runescape 2 there is no bank close to the mine.

* Mine 4,731 coal and sell for around 100-150gp each
* You should be at level 60 Mining to enter the Miner’s Guild. Mine 59,598 coal and sell for around 100-150gp each
* Now that you’re level 85 Mining, you can mine Rune in the Wilderness, or from the Heroes Guild. Each ore sells for around 10,000-15,000gp!

Runescape 2 Smithing
Smithing in Runescape 2 is quite a good way to make money, but you need patience as it takes a while. As non-members, steel plate bodies (at 48 Smithing) is a good item to make. They high alchemy for 1,200gp each, and can sell to other players for 900 to 1,000gp each. Rune axes, scimitars, battle axes and kites are the better items to make and sell in Runescape 2 as they are high in demand. As members, an extra bonus is the well-known Cannonball. After doing the Dwarf Cannon quest, you can get your hands on what is known as an ‘Ammo Mould’. Cannonballs are worth 150gp to 200gp each, and one Steel Bar makes four. That’s 600 to 800gp per bar.

Runescape 2 Herblore
It is a very hard skill and requires a lot of time, effort and if you do not have Runescape 2 money to start with. The potions which sell well are prayer, fishing, agility, ranged, anti-fire and Super sets (Super Attack, Super Strength and Super Defence) and the rest are slightly harder to sell.

At 25 Herblore in Runescape 2, there is a herb you can identify called Ranarr Weed. This is a very popular, in-demand herb. When IDed, these herbs sell for 3k to 4k each. Once you reach 38 herblore, you can make one of the most popular potions is the Prayer Potion. Prayer potions in Runescape 2 sell for 5k each, so you could buy ranarrs, and then sell the potions at 1k to 2k profit.

Sony PS3 vs Nintendo’s Wii

Computer Games No Comments

Of the three consoles competing for market dominance in the latest generation, the PS3 and Nintendo’s Wii are the most distinct from each other. While they are certainly both powerful systems, and similarities can be easily drawn between them, they have arrived on the market through very different design philosophies, with marketing strategies to suit.

On one hand, the PS3 is pushing every technological limit it can. Using an ambitious processor architecture, top-end graphics acceleration, and large stores of memory, the PS3 is one grunty system! It also includes a range of technologies that are either still at the bleeding-edge prototype stage, untested in mass production, such as the CPU that behaves like an eight-core chip and Blu-Ray Disk drive, or are considered the high-end of two alternatives, in the case of using licensed Bluetooth in favour of generic wireless technology, and the full HDTV support, HDMI output, and full 7.1 surround sound, rather than mere 5.1. If the E3 screenshots of the announced games are anything to judge by, graphically, they will challenge even the best-looking PC titles, which is rare for console systems.

Retailing for prices upwards of US$600 significantly higher in some countries and for pre-orders the PS3 is a truly extravagant system.

Sitting in defiant contrast to PS3’s whole design philosophy is the Wii. Nintendo opted not to simply load their system up with enough grunt to blow every competitor out of the water in fact, their approach was to not even try. Nintendo have opted to instead take a prudent path, by offering a well balanced system, not ridiculously overpowered, yet perhaps still on par with a medium to high-end PC gaming rig.
Like with the PS3, they have produced a system that is highly backwards-compatible with legacy games and accessories, includes Bluetooth support, which their innovative motion-sensitive controllers make use of, again like the PS3. The console has legacy memory card, Flash card, USB, and ethernet support, allowing for LAN and Internet use. It’s the choice of games on offer is the first indication that this is a different sort of system. Certainly some of the same demanding titles are in the list, but it’s populated more by simpler platformer and parlour games, which both attract their own significant fan-bases.

The controllers, including the Wii Remote, and Sensor Bar, have been a huge hit with E3 and TGS attendees, already well-received by the gaming press. The main indicator to distinguish the Wii from the PS3, which may well give it the edge it needs to outperform the superior system in the marketplace, is its price. It starts at a much more manageable US$250, with the highest prices outside North America only reaching $100 more. So marked is the price difference, that Microsoft and Nintendo reps quietly put the word out at 2006’s E3 Expo, that people would be better served by buying both an Xbox 360, AND a Nintendo Wii, rather than a PS3. To compound The Case Against Sony as their critics may well be phrasing it supply problems have recently caused delays for the launch of PS3 outside Japan, USA, and Canada, giving the Wii launch window three or four months with only the Xbox as competition.

When it comes to PS3 vs Nintendo Wii, the Wii does not compete on any technical level. It certainly has respectable system specs, but the PS3 is simply a more powerful system that will deliver better performance. Whether this translates to more fun is clearly a choice for each individual to make, because Sony has no short of critics saying that it does not. The three biggest criticisms the PS3 has had to face are a perceived lack of innovation, an arguably outrageous launch price, and a lack of supply during the most crucial period. This all contrasts with reciprocal praise on the same points of the Wii. As it stands currently, both systems are pre-selling like hotcakes, so it will be some time before a clear leader emerges, assuming one will at all.

PS3 Game Previews and Reviews

Computer Games No Comments

The Sony PS3 will be the most powerful game console ever released. The impressive parallel processing architecture and powerful GPU allows for arguably the most ambitious releases on a console ever. Certainly, the graphics and performance the system will deliver will outstrip that of its more prudent competitors, Xbox 360, and Nintendo’s Wii. It should come as no surprise then, that many of the most anticipated titles of 2007 will launch on the PS3, some on multiple platforms, others exclusively. As impressive as the hardware is, it’s really not important in the scheme of things; what really matters is what games you can actually play!

The PS3 is costly enough as it is, and as with anything else you invest in, you wouldn’t want to do it before reading up on it first. What better way to do that, than to check out some PS3 game previews? Generally speaking, the best sources of PS3 previews will come from those websites and magazines that have generally covered PS2 and the original PS from the outset. General gaming sites like Gamespy/IGN, Gamespot, 1up, and GamesIndustry.biz are generally good sources of quick, easy to read news, game previews, and reviews. The quality varies, but what is common to each of these is that they will compare their subject matter to the competition. In this case, exclusive PS3 titles would be compared against games on Xbox 360 and Wii in any PS3 game review.

If you’re already a fan, and you’re set on having a PS3, you might prefer PS3 reviews from sites that deal with nothing else. Dedicated community fansites tend to have active discussion forms full of analysis of every last detail. More to the point, the staff who run such sites are generally fans themselves, and are just as interested in the system and games they post about, which is usually reflected in their reporting. Sites like PSXextreme, PSrules, PS3 Power, and PS3 Land are all good sources of PS3 game previews. Naturally, there aren’t any PS3 reviews out yet, but these sites are already geared up and equipped to start posting them as soon as they hit the shelves in November.

Anticipated titles at release time will include the fourth game in the ever popular Gran Turismo series, Madden 07, Vampire’s Rain, Crysis, Fatal Inertia, MotorStorm, Assassin’s Creed, Call of Duty 3, NBA Live 07, Need for Speed: Carbon, Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire, Resistance: Fall of Man, and F.E.A.R. Also keep in mind that the PS3 is going to be widely backwards compatible with older PS and PS2 games, which you’ll be able to buy from Son’y PNP service, if you don’t already have them one of the major selling points! For your PS3, game reviews already written will be just as useful. Finally, going back even further, Sony has announced that a wide variety of Sega Genesis (MegaDrive) games will be also be compatible with the PS3, opening up yet more games to its repertoire.

The Sony PS3 vs Xbox 360

Computer Games No Comments

The current generation of game consoles is a market contested by three systems. Microsoft’s Xbox 360, which was released in November 2005, Nintendo’s Wii, due for release in November 2006, and the Sony PS3, also set to release in North America and Japan in November 06. This is a short guide for consumers interested in a comparison of the PS3 vs Xbox 360.

The two systems are remarkably similar in several ways. They both ship in two different lines, a Basic and a Premium version, and in both cases, the main difference between the two lines for each is the size of the hard drive. In the case of Xbox, the Core version does not have one, while the Premium system comes with a removable 20 GB hard drive. In the case of the PS3, the Basic edition has a 20 GB hard drive, and the Premium comes with a 60 GB drive. Given the similarities of the two lines for each system, from here on we shall just compare the premium version of both systems.

Microsoft’s second console, the Xbox 360, is Internet-capable by standard 100 Mb ethernet port, has a relatively advanced on board Operating System (OS), features a triple-cored CPU for parallel processing, allowing a different processor to focus exclusively on different aspects of each game, has a powerful on-board graphics accelerator with an ATI GPU, has 5.1 surround sound support, DVD playback functionality, interfaces with an online matchmaking and multiplayer service, namely, Xbox Live, and with a software update, will support the HDTV progressive video resolution of 1920×1080 (AKA, 1080p).

The system also has 3 USB 2.0 ports, which allow users to plug in additional peripherals, such as the Xbox Live Vision Camera, and wireless network adaptor. There is support for both wired and wireless controllers. Microsoft has also announced it will release an external Xbox HD-DVD drive for users who desire next-generation disk format support.

The Xbox 360 ships with emulation software that allows users to play some original Xbox games on the new console. The results vary significantly, however, and a compatibility profile must first be released on a game-by-game basis via Xbox Live, before users can use old games. In some cases, the older games are able to take advantage of the significantly more powerful hardware available to them and will actually play better than on the original system. Others, however, do not lend themselves well to this feature, and run poorly, or in some cases, not at all, and thus, will not be supported by Microsoft on the 360.

The PS3 will also be Internet-capable via 1 Gb ethernet, and will offer many of the same features as Xbox Live Gold, using the tentatively named PlayStation Network Platform (PNP) service for multiplayer and matchmaking. Unlike Xbox Live Gold, however, Sony has announced that their service will not attract a subscription fee, but will instead be free to all users. It has a highly advanced Cell processor, which features eight independent Synergistic Processing Elements (SPE) for parallel computing. One of these is reserved for the OS, and another is redundant, making the console fault tolerant, should one of the units fail. The other six can be dynamically configured by each game to allow developers to optimise the console for the requirements of every individual game.

The next-generation Blu-Ray Disk format is standard for all PS3 units, which also allows standard DVD and CD playback, as with the Xbox 360. The PS3 will support all standard HDTV resolutions, and the Premium version has HDMI output support. The PS3 has Wireless Bluetooth controllers, USB, Flash card and memory stick support, and 7.1 surround sound.

Finally, Sony has said that nearly every PS1 and PS2 game will be natively compatible with the PS3, and has indicated that some Sega Genesis (AKA Sega Megadrive outside the US) games will also work out of the box. It will gradually make these games available for download directly to the on-board hard drive, for a fee payable via their PNP service.

When comparing the PS3 vs Xbox 360, it can be hard to make a choice. The PS3 is undoubtedly a more powerful machine, however, it costs much more than its competitor. It includes a host of features very similar to those offered by Microsoft, some of which are definitely implemented better. It is fair to expect generally superior performance from a PS3, so any choice boils down to the investment consumers are willing to make or have already made, in the case of older games for that experience.

Pre-Ordering a Sony PS3 - How Can I be The First to Buy a Playstation 3?

Computer Games No Comments

The response to the launch of each of the so-called next-gen consoles has been absolutely viral. Upon opening their doors to Sony PS3 pre-orders, each outlet that will have systems to sell on launch day has sold out within minutes. In many cases, people camped out for days to get a chance to put a deposit down, that would not even guarantee them a system on launch day in November. So, by the time you’re reading this, it will be impossible to pre-order a PS3 from a major outlet in Japan, Canada, or the United States. Mexico will open to local pre-orders in early 2007, and Europe and Australia’s PS3s will be launched for March 2007. Due to the scale of the launch, and the ravenous appetite with which fans have frenzied around PS3 pre-orders, small suppliers, middlemen, and profiteers alike have leapt on any opportunity to get in on the demand-hiked prices. Pre-orders of the console itself are not the only thing on offer. Domain squatters are auctioning off PS3 pre-order related web domain names for hundreds to thousands of dollars.

So, if they’re all gone, you ask, where can I pre-order a PS3? The answer is quite simple really, and it involves paying one of the aforementioned profiteers vast sums of money. Sony PS3 pre-orders have been selling for thousands of dollars on Ebay scarce though they may be. Many small retailers in Japan, the USA, and Canada made sure to get themselves a good spot in line early, buying up several systems (most stores imposed bag limits, to later sell them online. Amazon.com’s pre-orders sold out in a matter of minutes, before they even had time to activate a scheduled mass mail-out, informing those who had requested it that the PS3 pre-orders were open! Fortunately, you won’t necessarily have to fork out $2000 to be guaranteed an early system. Furthermore, some prudent retailers have held back a console or two, to re-open sales once PS3 pre-order availability drops off again.

There are still a few floating around, and sites have been set up to help put people in touch with the few systems up for sale. http://www.ps3preorder.net is a site that aims to do just that, although it is showing only a handful of systems available at the time of writing. PS3Vault has maintained news posts about the whole saga, keeping track of launches and the massive crowds that have gathered to get a change to be one of lucky (determined) few. http://www.ps3vault.com/pre-order-ps3/

Consumer response to the PS3 launch has been overwhelming. The launch of the original Xbox, and its successor, Xbox 360 saw similar marvels, but never on the same scale. Even more of Nintendo’s Wii’s have been pre-ordered, however, given that initial supply and production of the cheaper console is significantly higher than that of Sony’s, people have not gone to the degrees to get hold of one of the systems early as they have to obtain a PS3 pre-order. For European and Australasian consumers, there may be more chances to get hold of systems exported through private sales once the units have been in stores for a couple of weeks. Until then, either get out your chequebook, or find a good book to read!

The Official PS3 Release Dates Worldwide

Computer Games No Comments

Information about the Sony PS3 release date is difficult to find at the moment. Not because there’s none out there, but because over the last year, the release window has changed three times. Just before E3 2006, Sony announced the PS3 release date would be on November 11th in Japan, and November 17th 2006 for North America. Demand since then has skyrocketed, and despite the considerable cost of the PS3 compared to the two competing next-gen consoles, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii, every major outlet offering pre-orders in the US has sold out.

Due to this considerable demand, the release date for the PS3 had to be pushed back in regions where PAL is the television standard, which includes the important European, Australasian, Russian, Middle Eastern, and African markets, until March 2007. Sony was quick to clarify that the number of units to be shipped had not changed, after earlier predicting that they would sell a massive six million units before the end of 2007. The delay stems from a lack of supply of blue-laser diodes, the crucial component for the read-head of the Blu-ray drives, which will be standard in every PS3 unit.

Analysts have been quick to criticise Sony for their failure to ensure a steady supply, noting that this latest delay will give the competing Nintendo Wii which will retail for a considerably lower price a lead in those markets outside Japan and North America, as well as giving the Xbox 360, which has already been on shelves for months, an even longer free run in the market. If any proof of the ravenous demand consumers have for PS3 is needed, the prices being charged by profiteers offering pre-orders on eBay and the like reach as high as $1,500, while Sony puts the official PS3 release date price at a mere US$500 for the 20GB version, and $600 for the 60GB version. Sony has allowed for 600,000 pre-order units for the American market, some of which will find their way from the online auctioneers to Europe and the other areas whose consumers have been told that they’ll simply have to wait.

Others have been equally quick to point out that similar delays and short supply marked the launch of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 approximately one year earlier, with far fewer than Sony’s 600,000 units being available on release day. Understandably, this has lead to speculation that the media buzz created by fans queuing for hours just to be among the first to own one of the new consoles actually plays into the hands of the manufacturers: The consumer frenzy that results from high demand and relatively low supply may help to boost the popularity, come PS3 release date in November. Nintendo’s Wii generated a similar effect when attendees at this year’s E3 Expo were prepared to queue for up to eight hours just to spend a few minutes on one of the prototype consoles.

While the latest news regarding the Sony PS3 release date is disappointing for fans in Europe and the other smaller markets, the launch will still be among the most ambitious in console gaming history. The demand for pre-orders may well be fetching the highest prices ever recorded for any console system at release date, and despite fierce competition from the other manufacturers, Sony’s marketing machine is clearly running at full steam. This will be a launch to remember.

The Ultimate Gaming System the Super Powerful Xbox 360 by Microsoft

Computer Games No Comments

Computer gaming has definitely come a long way from back in 1972 when the game of choice was pong and played on the Atari 2600. Modern technology and video game enhancements have made gaming a serious hobby and a high-tech one as well.

If you have been keeping up with all the advances in the field of computer gaming, you will realize how these advances have been consistent with the advances of high-end technology. Computer gaming has pushed the limits of technology and is credited for many of the advancements in this field for the past generation.

The Xbox 360 is a top performer of this high-powered, top-technology trend. The Xbox 360, from Microsoft is a prime example of how technology has pushed the frontiers of gaming. With a processing power and connectivity that most high end personal computers could only dream of, the Xbox has opened a vista of possibilities never before possible on the older consoles.

Here is a brief rundown of the new features of the Xbox 360.

1. Games that take advantage of the Xbox have increased power and graphical performance. Project Gotham 3, Perfect Dark Zero, Silent Hill 4 and Kameo are only a few of the new games slated to hit the Xbox 360 this year. These games will certainly push the envelope with what is expected of newer generation games.

2. Innovative Accessories. The Xbox has accessories that will make other companies go, I wish I had thought of that. Wireless controllers will allow greater freedom for players to wreak havoc upon the competition. This gives players increased mobility, comfort and enjoyment.

Xbox also integrates internet connectivity so that gaming against a pal who lives across the country or another continent will not have to be a hassle anymore. It is now possible to have search and destroy games among the Xbox community, and you do not even have to leave the confines of your home.

3. Backward Compatibility. The old Xbox games will be fully compatible with the 360. That will amount to over 200 well-loved games from the old Xbox library. This means you will not have to wait for the 360 library to go full stock before wanting to buy one; you could enjoy the old collection along with the new immediately.

4. Mega Power. The Xbox 360 engine runs on three 3.2 GHZ processors. That is a powerful workhorse! This processing power makes the running of complex games a cinch. Many polygon-hungry games will get their fill once they get a load of this much power.

5. Couple that with the 500 MHz ATI graphics processor and you have a tremendously powerful chip that can bring life and action to any game that comes its way.

6. The Xbox 360 is versatile and not only serves as a gaming base, but it also works as a CD/DVD player, further making a case for its price. The Xbox is capable of keeping track of a load of data that you may find indispensable. All these extra features ensure that the Xbox 360 can and will be a faithful entertainment tech companion for a long, long time.

While there are many gaming consoles around, it would pay to consider the strengths and weaknesses of them all. However, there is a consensus among gaming enthusiasts that the most important aspect of any gaming console is the technology, processor speed, memory, storage, along with availability and support of consoles and games.

In this regard, the Xbox 360 has room to boast. With a staff of developers currently at work for Microsoft enhancing the Xbox, gamers are sure to be spellbound for years to come.

The Sony PS3 Launch Day Madness!

Computer Games No Comments

6 months late and only 400,000 systems for the nationwide launch, yep, sounds like another games console launch…

On November 17th Northern America saw the long awaited launch of the Sony PlayStation 3, but how many people got what they wanted?

Well, as expected the number of units available was very low and as usual there were quite a few people ready to pay big money to be the first to own a PS3.

The 60GB PS3 has a retail price of $600 and so far eBay has seen a steady flow of units selling for between $1,500 and $4,000 !!

Many people camped out over night on the cold streets for a chance of getting their hands on the highly prized console, some waiting three days to ensure a good place in the queue. Outside one Circuit City store 50 plus people patiently waiting but only 10 PS3 consoles were available for sale… A large bold sign reminding queuing hopefuls of this limited number seemed to make no difference, some waiting in line just for the chance that someones credit card might be declined or maybe an unexpected stock delivery? It’s great to see the never say never attitude alive and well in the streets of the USA!

These die hard PS3 fans are a special breed, keeping one-another encouraged and talking amongst themselves about the impending games releases and online capabilities, you can really feel the excitement in the air.

For others though, the cold long wait was just about the money, they weren’t afraid to admit that they intended to sell the console on for a profit, As with the games console releases in the past demand far outweighs supply and there are plenty of gamers prepared to pay top Dollar for a early chance to play. One queue waiter commented “I’d rather take the $2000 profit and wait another three months!”

So that’s the folks in the US underway, Japan had their PS3’s first on November 11th, but what of the European gamers? Well Sony have put off the Europe wide launch until March 2007 because of reported production problems with the graphics chips, and the difficult to manufacture Sony Cell processor, But will they meet the march deadline? They can’t say! Sony are currently refusing to guarantee a Spring European launch at all, so it could be an even longer wait for Europe. Let’s wait and see…

Why We Play Games

Computer Games No Comments

We all like to play games, we all need to play games whether they are board games, video games, outdoor sports or just messing about with our partner games we all have an innate desire to play.

Playing is an essential part of our evolution. The experience gained by infants when they play games during their formative years is invaluable and teaches them the skills needed for later in life.

To share, know strengths and weaknesses, learn fairness and modesty are all vital components of our make up. Many species of the animal kingdom share the same patterns. You only have to study lion cubs, puppies or monkeys to see how they develop and hone essential skills whilst playing

When infants play games they develop their mental and cognitive abilities. They learn how to make judgements, take risks and importantly learn how to be less egocentric.

The old sayings “play to win” and “winning is everything” which interpreted would suggest we only play games to win and there is little point in playing if we do not win.

This is an opinion I do not subscribe to and many schools today are also attempting to change the perception on how we play games.

Some schools have now decided to abandon the parent’s race as it has simply become too competitive. Parents have become aggressive in their attempts to win when originally this race was designed to embarrass the parents and provide some lighthearted fun to the day. As a consequence injuries have occurred but the real damage is how their children perceive the way their parents compete. It stands to reason this aggressive behaviour will filter down and into the childs mind.

Through competition winners and losers are determined and this could possibly damage a childs self esteem if they are never on the winning side. Therefore today a greater emphasis is placed upon team events and the ethos of “Its the taking part that counts”

This political correctness is all well and good but a healthy competitive element should be present when we play games, especially sports. Without a fine balance it could equally be argued our children will not learn the skills needed to strive, do their very best in life and basically look after themselves.

Be humble in your victories and magnanimous in defeat and you will always find someone to play with.

Win or lose the most important reason we should play games is for fun! Whether it’s a simple game of cards or a football match we should really leave the competitive stuff to the professionals and just enjoy the game and remember to always shake hands after.

Video Games Are Stealing The Spotlight

Computer Games No Comments

Thirty years ago the fledgling video game business was struggling to make a name for itself as it competed with toys, playing cards and board games for customers. The early games like Pong, Pac Man and Donkey Kong were very basic in terms of technology, and they had very little creativity involved with their designs and functions. Today, the computer game industry is a multi billion dollar extravaganza that has progressed dramatically, and it is starting to steal some of the spotlight from the glitzy and glamorous motion picture industry.

With technological advances like next generation motion capture systems, high definition graphics, Dolby Sound and Motion Sensor Remote controls that enable the players to actually get up off their chairs and get some exercise as they kick, swat, punch, jump, fish, golf and dance their way through sessions, video games have become more than just toys. They are an escape that offers a whole new reality. Kids and adults alike are playing Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii games more than ever before and the industry itself is growing bigger every day.

You only need to look at the recent Video Game Awards on Spike TV to see just how far they have come. This televised show was an awards ceremony much in the spirit of the Oscars or Emmys, but with more attitude. It was hosted by Samuel L. Jackson, a major Hollywood movie star, and throughout the show several other celebrities like Michael Irvin, Method Man, Eva Mendez and Seth Green showed up as presenters. James Gandolfini even showed up on the live satellite screen to accept an award for the Sopranos computer game.

Celebrities are starting to notice that video games are getting a lot of attention these days. If there is an awards ceremony that is televised, you can be rest assured that they will show up to get some face time. They are like moths to a porch light with that sort of thing. While the celebrities at the recent Video Game Awards were not quite on the Hollywood A-list, it will not be long before the ones that are will be showing up. They are already starting to license their names for the games, so it only makes sense that they will all be showing up at this event in the future to accept their awards.

The Video Game Awards show began this year with a big-budget open that looked like something out of a Jerry Bruckheimer film. Samuel L. Jackson made his way from his dressing room to the stage as he encountered various strange characters along the way, much like a video game. When he arrived on stage he picked up a laser gun and began to shoot the members of the classic rock group Kansas as they played their signature song Carry On My Wayward Son. There was impressive choreography, elaborate lighting and laser effects. Guys were being shot with laser guns and flying off the stage on harnesses, and the whole thing looked like a high-tech computer game that had come to life.

While the format of the show was very much like a Hollywood award show, it had a certain independent feel to it with a bit of a raw edge. Presenters and award winners were constantly saying things that needed to be bleeped out, edgy, young bands played loud music and Samuel L. Jackson seemed like he was infused with the energy of the crowd as he scream-talked his way through the night.

Being true to the Hollywood awards ceremony format, there were clips of video games that were played throughout the show. This was one of the highlights of the show, for it allowed the viewers to see glimpses inside the worlds of these games. I am quite certain that many viewers who had never seen any of these new games before suddenly had a new found respect for them. They even had clips of games that have not been released yet, like the new one by Tom Clancy called Ghost Recon and another new one called Big Shock that is due out in the spring of 2007.

It is not by accident that the video game industry is starting to look like the film industry. Sony, who makes Playstation 3, also makes movies for Hollywood. They have incorporated many of their filmmaking techniques into the production process of their video games, as have the makers of the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii games. The result is that you get games that seem like movies. The camera angles, storylines, lighting and sound effects are very similar to what you would see with a big budget Hollywood movie that plays in theaters.

All of the old classic movies like Scarface, The Godfather and Star Wars have all been turned into video games. A lot of the old actors like James Caan and Al Pacino were actually involved with the making of these classic movie games in which they offered their voice-over talents.

But there is one great advantage that video games have over movies, and that is that they offer interaction. You can actually be involved with what is happening on the screen, instead of just watching it like you do at a movie theater. This gives one a feeling of empowerment that one just does not get from watching a movie. These games offer more than an escape, they offer a journey into another world where your actions have no real negative consequences on yourself.

Video games have come a long way since the days of Pong, Pac Man and Donkey Kong. While the Video Game Awards are not quite the Oscars yet, they are certainly on a pace to give them a run for their money in the future in terms of publicity. Celebrities are starting to notice that the spotlight on Hollywood is being shared by a newcomer to the world of entertainment, and they are following the light, as they do naturally. It is an inevitable natural progression, much like the relationship between a whale and a pilot fish. Big celebrity names are starting to integrate into the computer game industry, and as this happens it only means more publicity for both parties involved. This is ultimately good for gamers too, for as the industry gets bigger and bigger, the games and the consoles will only get better and better.

It Is A Great Time To Be One Who Plays Video Games

Computer Games No Comments

There is something special about the video games of today. The people who enjoy playing them are living in a very exiting time. With the recent releases of Nintendo Wii and Playstation 3 (and Xbox 360 a little while back) the gaming experience has been raised to a whole new level. You know there must be something really exciting about the newly released next generation video game systems if people are willing to camp out in front of stores for a week before their release and then stampede inside the store once they open the doors.

While the hype was substantial leading up to the releases of Nintendo Wii and Sony’s Playstation 3, there is also something to be said for customer satisfaction in these cases. These customers are so happy with what they have already seen in the previous products of these companies that they cannot wait to get their hands on whatever products they are offering next.

The new features that these new systems offer such as Motion-Sensitive Remotes, Online Gaming, Wi-Fi Support and High Definition Game Support have customers fighting to be the first ones to have them. It is doubtful that any of them minded the camping out in front of the store part though, because they probably all had a PSP (Playstation Portable) with them and were playing all the cool PSP downloads they got from the Internet. You can now bring your video games with you where ever you go on the planet.

Sony and Nintendo are now neck and neck in the race for technological dominance of the computer game industry. While Playstation 2 dominated this race for years since it’s debut back in 1995, Xbox 360 came on the scene and became a competitor. Nintendo suddenly vaulted to the front of the race when they recently released their Wii console. This system takes gaming to a whole new level. It has a revolutionary type of motion sensitive remote control that allows the user to get off their seat and actually get some exercise as they punch, swing, kick and dance their way through the games.

Sony released their Playstation 3 console soon after Wii was released and they jumped back to the front of the race with this action along side Nintendo. Wii is selling for a little bit less than Playstation 3 is selling for, and this is a big plus for parents on a budget. However, Sony’s new system has many impressive features of it’s own such as DVD Movie Playback capability and a 60GB hard drive available. These two systems have a little bit of an advantage over Xbox, for it does not have a motion sensitive remote control.

Xbox will eventually have a system that is comparable to these two systems. The main reason that Xbox 360 is still in the game is because they have such a huge selection of games that go with their systems. The Xbox 360 console has 116 games that can be played with it, while Playstation 3 has 41 and Wii has 47 games. It will not be long before a new version of Xbox 360 is released and then the race will have 3 companies running neck and neck at the front.

Playing a video game these days is like stepping into another world and leaving reality behind for a little while. The technology that is involved with the production of these games is definitely on the cutting edge. Things like next generation motion capture, high definition graphics and motion-sensitive remote controls have made today’s video gaming experience nothing less than exhilarating, and to some extent liberating. Your problems disappear once you escape into the world of a video game.

The quality of the graphics, the level of interactivity and the variety of features these spectacular computer games offer these days are like nothing ever seen before. Playing these games is a great way to lose stress and forget about your problems for a little while, even if it is just for twenty minutes during a lunch break. Gameboy and Sony’s PSP units have made it so that you can play games just about anywhere.

It is an exciting time to be a video game player. Technology has advanced to the point where you are no longer just playing the game, but you are actually in the game. If you are the kind of person who just loves to play video games, then you must agree that it is a great time to be alive.

Your Kids Are Smart Thanks To Video Games

Computer Games No Comments

Your daughter just came home with a straight A report card and an academic achievement award. She is already taking college credit classes and she is only in the tenth grade. Her brother who is two years older is graduating this year and heading off to college over the summer. He will be attending a major University on a full academic scholarship. And he was the one you used to think would be better off attending a trade school. You and your spouse like to think that you are both pretty smart, and that your two braniac kids are just a couple of chips off the old blocks.

But before you start to think too highly of your own DNA, you need to know about some recent scientific studies that say you and your spouse are not the only ones who should take the credit. Video games played on systems like Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii should get a lot of the credit for making your kids so intelligent.

One thing is for sure, and that is the fact that your kids are growing up in a world that is quite different than the world that you grew up in. Technology and its influences are far more pervasive now than they used to be back in your childhood. The whole learning experience is just mechanically different. For example, you grew up playing with puzzles instead of video games. Puzzles are good for visualization of geometric patterns, along with recognition and recall of geometric designs.

The theory says that if puzzles are good for this, then video games are even better because the shapes and designs are constantly changing and moving, which makes them more challenging. In essence, a more challenging learning experience means that a child is working their brain harder, and this makes them smarter.

There are many other benefits that come with the use of video games. Recent studies have proved that playing computer games helps to develop problem-solving skills, critical thinking and sequential reasoning abilities. They are also good for the development of spatial reasoning and memory skills, as most games involve the placement of objects in 3-dimensional spaces as well as the use of floor plans, maps, mazes and puzzles.

Video games are also good for the development of artistic abilities in children. Many games have incredibly creative graphics and storylines that are sure to inspire any creatively inclined youths. They are especially good for any children who dream to become writers some day. It is important to be able to build imaginary worlds as a writer, and many of the fantasy based games show them what is possible when you think creatively.

Playing computer games can also be good for language skills. Many of the games involve foreign languages and translations from Japanese to English, and visa versa.

There is also the cultural aspect of playing a game that was made in a foreign country. Many games depict scenarios that are found in the country where it was made. Children can learn about the differences and similarities between them and the people in other countries around the world. They can gain access to anthropological information every time they play a video game on their Xbox 360, Playstation 3 or Nintendo Wii consoles.

Not all video games offer an escape into a realm of fantasy. Some have real world geography that teaches children about the planet they live on. These types of games also teach them navigational skills, for they involve the use of maps and directions.

So if you are wondering why you your kids are over-achieving in school, you need look no further than their Xbox 360, Playstation 3 or Nintendo Wii consoles. You may have been the one who taught them their first words, how to walk and how to ride a bike, but their video games taught them things like problem-solving skills, critical thinking and sequential reasoning abilities.

But I would not worry too much for you have one big advantage over computer games and that is the ability to enjoy the fruits of your labor. When you see your children graduate and blossom into mature, well-educated adults you can rest assured that you did a good job raising them, with the help of video games of course, who by the way will have no idea that they were partially responsible for your children growing up so smart and well adjusted.

The Wow Gold And Items Economy

Computer Games No Comments

You’re a human paladin standing in your bank vault in the bustling city of Stormwind. The shelves surrounding you are full of various weapons, armor, potions and other miscellaneous items that you have picked up throughout your many journeys and battles across the lands of Azeroth.

All of the items that you use day to day, you tend to carry around with you. Some of the things you are storing in the bank are useful to you at times, so you keep them where they are safe knowing you can retrieve them when you need them. However, the majority of what litters your vault you have no personal use for. What is a Paladin to do?

The Auction House

It’s time for a little house cleaning and to earn some extra wow gold. So, like the trusty paladin that you are, you gather up your various things and head down to the local auction house. Now, since you are a well seasoned paladin, you know that the first thing you need to do is scope out your competition.

So you walk around the Auction house and check out the prices that other people are charging for the same items that you want to sell. Once you get a good feel for the market value it is then time to set up shop.

The Three Marketing Approaches

If you’re a paladin with a bit of a rough edge to you, you might take the items that you have for sell and undercut your competition by a few wow gold. Although this strategy will guarantee that your item sells the fastest, you might make a few enemies because if enough people lower the price, then the market value will drop in time. You have the power to drastically effect the economy.

Now, if you are the run-of-the-mill straight laced kinda paladin, you might want to consider selling your item for the mid to low range that other people are selling them for. You may not make your money right away, but it eventually will sell and no one will throw rocks at you as you walk by.

The third strategy is for people who are not in any hurry to get their money. This strategy is all about controlling the supply. You sell your item for the high end of its price range. Usually you will have to wait for the other vendors to sell out of their stock, first. Then once they do, your item will be in demand.

An addition to this strategy is to find something that has more demand than supply. Then work out a way to accumulate multiple of that item. However, even though you will have multiple of the item, you will only sell one at the auction house at a time. By doing this, the average market price for that item will sometimes even steadily creep up.

The Down Low

The players in World of Warcraft have a lot of influence over the economy and market prices of wow gold and other wow items. If enough people sell a particular item at a lower than normal cost, that price will become the norm. So, the bottom line is, you can just run through the regular game mechanics and sell gold that you get from your kills to the npc merchants and slowly gain gold that way.

However, like the paladin, if I were you, I would spend some time learning the ins and outs of the auction house. It’s fully automated and you don’t have to be online for your wow gold and items to sell. The economy is made for you the player. Take advantage of it.

Bioshock Is One Video Game That Is Sure To Impress In 2007

Computer Games No Comments

If you are really into playing video games on your Playstation 3, Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii console, or even on your PC or PSP, then get ready to be thoroughly entertained and possibly even blown away by some impressive new game releases in the year to come. There is a whole new crop of games that will be released in 2007, but Bioshock is one that certainly deserves some extra attention.

A highly anticipated game from Irrational Games that has been in the works since 2004, Bioshock is the “spiritual successor” to the cult-classic System Shock 2. It will be released in the spring of 2007 for Xbox 360 and PC.

Bioshock is a futuristic/post-apocalyptic game about people fighting science experiment mutants gone out of control in the ruins of a city that was built under the sea in the 1940s. The storyline and the graphics are as creative as any video games on the market, but the most engaging part of this game is the problem-solving aspect. The user is continuously challenged to figure out what has happened to this underwater ghost town in order to move the game along.

Like the other games from Irrational that came before it, Bioshock is a dazzling, complex and highly interactive experience that challenges gamers of all levels to solve its mysteries as they interact with adversarial beings and creatures. It has a dark and cryptic look to it that brings to mind the mines of Moria scene from the Lord Of The Rings where the Fellowship battled the Balrog in the abandoned dwarve empire under the Misty Mountains.

Bioshock is set primarily in a broken-down underwater complex that seems to be a relic from the World War II era. Players move through the game with a first person perspective as they battle mutant creatures that roam the halls and streets of this decaying city.

Nothing is quite clear to the user at first, such as what the complex was originally used for, and why it is being used again, but things become more apparent as they progress through the game. What is eventually apparent is that a utopian city was built and genetic experiments were performed in the 1940s, and then the complex fell into disrepair for reasons unknown. Sixty something years later the complex is revisited and we find out that it has been overrun by mutant genetic experiment creatures that have a taste for human flesh.

Ken Levine, the general manager of Irrational Games describes Bioshock as a convergence of technology and biological life in which genetic experiments are featured. It is by no means a sequel to System Shock 2, whose setting was a corporate-sponsored starship.

Bioshock has no story connection to System Shock 2 other than the fact that they are both horror-themed. The similarity is in the way the game is played as the player gets to decide what they see and interact with by the decisions they make during each step of the game.

According to Ken Levine, the interactivity level of this new game will be “unprecedented”. The player becomes immersed in the interactive environments and confronted with a series of player-driven choices. This creates a style of play the developers of the game call emergent gameplay.

Another impressive aspect of this game is the AI ecology which dynamically searches for opportunities to fulfill their purpose. The player can even manipulate the AI ecology to work in their favor, turning enemies and NPCs against each other.

Of all the games that will be released in 2007 for Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, PSP or PC, Bioshock is sure to be one of the best. It is a hybrid first person shooter game that combines elements of science fiction and role playing genres with interactive environments and player-driven choices.

This is a challenging and engaging video game that allows you to literally be in the middle of the action and decide how the game plays out. If you like your video games to be as creative as they are engaging, then Bioshock is one you will thoroughly enjoy.

If You Are An Online Gamer, Here Are A Few Must Haves

Computer Games No Comments

Online gaming has exploded in popularity in the last few years, thanks to increasingly better technology. Characters look more real, and opponents abound because of the venue’s popularity. A player in California can duke it out with someone in Japan in these live formats. And as a result, gamers are constantly seeking out the newest accessories that will make their gaming experience even more enjoyable.

We all need to hear and see to function. And the same goes with online gaming. Good sound quality matters. So every gamer needs a solid headset or communication device. Lots of systems support high tech communication devices. Take Playstation 2: you can plug in up to two headsets through a USB port. Obviously you’ll need a gaming headset specifically designed with a USB device.

These headsets come in handy and are even necessary for some games. For example, you’re playing a game online with other individuals and you need to call out plays to your teammates, you need a good headset to both hear plays and call out plays. But if you prefer a type of game where you’re in charge of the entire game alone, then obviously you can exercise the option of not looking like an air traffic controller.

Microsoft Xbox has similar hookups to Playstation 2 except that you connect the headset to the actual controller instead of the system. This works out well because you don’t need as long of a cord as you would for Playstation 2, which hooks up to the system. Additionally, the Xbox headset has some awesome features that will make your gaming experience truly unique. For example, players have the option of literally disguising their voice (think of a kidnapper’s creepy voice synthesizer) so that their opponents don’t know what they really sound like. Additionally, parents should consider this headset since they can mute and thus monitor what their child hears online.

Gaming companies are getting smarter. Many are offering package deals where the headset will come with an online gaming service and subscription, and thus a person doesn’t have to search for just the right set for a given game.

And while the headset certainly makes online gaming fun, it’s not the most essential accessory for online gaming. Fast internet speed is. If you have a slow upload and download speed, you won’t be able to play your game as well since you’ll be receiving your information late. You won’t see the same things as your opponents at the same time that your opponents see them, and thus will both frustrate you and compromise your play. So get a high speed connection if you want to engage in online play. And make sure you have a reliable one. There’s nothing more frustrating than poising a character to make a move and then losing your connection. So consider these tools to make your online gaming experience a true pleasure.

Classic Arcade Games At Home?

Computer Games No Comments

Some people like to unwind by listening to music, some like to watch TV, some like to indulge in a little baking, and some like to play in the Arcades.

Those people who belong to the first three categories are lucky because the radio, the television, and the oven could be found in the comfort of their own homes.

The same couldn’t be said for the guy who likes to play in the Arcade though as the nearest Arcade is probably blocks away. And due to the dwindling popularity of the Arcades, their numbers have dropped as well.

But, as is the case with almost everything else in our modern world, technology has made it easier for the Arcade Buff. Your favorite arcade games like Pac-Man, Pinball, and Space Invaders can now be played in the comfort of your own home all for free.

You don’t have to buy those bulky Arcade Machines. The solution is actually more practical. You only have to go to your desk, open the computer, connect to the Internet, and go to one of those on-line Arcades. Nobody has to see you struggling over that unbeatable stage in Super Mario.

Nobody has to see you fumble with the controls as you try to outrun the enemies in Pac-man. Nobody has to hear that booming voice shout “Game Over”. You can do it all in the comfort and privacy of your own home. No more humiliating defeats, no more annoying bystanders whispering that they can do better, no more waiting in line to buy tokens. Indeed, the on-line arcade has made things extremely better for the modern gamer.

Online arcades also offer a bigger variety of games than your local arcade. There are over a million arcade games in the Internet, a number made possible by the emergence of different versions of different games.

These on-line games, ranging from puzzle games to shooting games to word games, have even become more complex, more interesting, and more addictive. Pac-man, a traditionally two dimensional game has evolved into a full three dimensional game, where our hero, Pac-man has changed from a mere circle to a 3-d sphere with legs and arms, and an interesting personality to boot.

Modern Technology has made things easier for the modern man. If you’re too busy to go to the actual Arcades, you can still indulge yourself in the Internet without having to leave your home and and play free arcade games.

Eye-popping Properties of HDTV

Computer Games No Comments

HDTV or high definition television is the cutting-edge technology in home theater systems. Movie enthusiasts praise the high definition televisions for its clearer picture, better sound, progressive scanning and a wider viewing screen. As the trend towards replacing traditional analog televisions with the HDTV, consumers are starting to notice the eye-popping properties of HDTV.

High definition television is a revolutionary new technology that brings the viewer the clearest, brightest picture possible. The picture on the television can be considered life-like and real. The colors displayed using the digital technology and wide screen pictures, are bright and crisp. Surround sound further enhances the viewer’s experience.

The standard high definition television works by using a digital broadcast signal that is able to deliver a wide-screen, high-resolution picture with six channels of digital sound. The difference between HDTV and conventional television broadcast is that the high definition screen is much wider. This allows the broadcast or DVD movies to be viewed as they would in a movie theater. No parts of the screen either at the top or bottom are obstructed or cut off.

HDTV provides a wider screen than conventional TV sets. The wide-screen format allows a more intense viewing experience and is able to take full advantage of the field of vision. With the prices of HDTV going down, smaller sets are hitting the market making consumers more likely to purchase HDTV.

Another great benefit of using high definition television is that HDTV has over twice the sharpness and clarity of analog TV broadcasts. The color resolution for HDTV sets is far superior. For consumers who have already made the switch to HDTV, they feel this is the biggest advantage of high definition.

The lack of imperfections in the television screen often seen on traditional television is another reason why many prefer high definition to analog. With HDTV, problems such as snow caused from a weak signal, double images from ghosting or multi-path and picture sparkles from impulse noise are a thing of the past. These problems often seen on a conventional television broadcast just do not occur on HDTV.

Screen resolution from a high definition TV broadcast is almost five times as sharp as conventional broadcasts. High definition has double the lines of resolution compared to a traditional analog TV set. While a traditional analog set can only display 525 lines of resolution, HDTV technology takes this one step farther. HDTV broadcasts can display 1080 horizontal lines of resolution. This makes a huge difference in the picture clarity and quality. Often with big screen analog broadcasts, the picture is severely degraded because of the resolution lines.

When looking into purchasing a high definition television and broadcast provider, it is important to research the products. HDTV comes in several sizes and varieties. Consumers can purchase plasma, LCD (liquid crystal display), DLP (digital light processing) or LCOS (liquid crystal on silicon), which are all types of monitors. There are also projection displays to consider. They also come in LCD, DLP, and LCOS. Many viewers prefer the wall display monitor that either plasma or LCD offers. But, these are usually the most expensive of the high definition sets, especially the ones that are sized between 40 to 70 inches. Lower on the cost spectrum, but equally good, are the LCD displays that are sized at 42 inches and under.

Also, consider the provider. High definition broadcasting and digital should not be confused. They are not the same thing. There are many cable and satellite companies that simply convert standard analog broadcasts to digital to improve reception and to provide additional services. These are not true high definition broadcasts. Also, the picture quality and resolution will not be the same as that of HDTV. The picture format will not be wide-screen. Most consumers that subscribe to cable today are getting a digital broadcast.

To keep up with the popularity of high definition, most broadcast channels now broadcast in both analog and high definition at the same time. There are currently about forty networks in the United States that now broadcast in both. These include HBO, Showtime, ESPN and the Discovery Channel. The number of networks utilizing high definition broadcast is expected to grow as the price of HDTV goes down. More consumers are asking for high definition channels for their television viewing.
