iPhone 3G Outdated On Arrival

The hype leading up to Apple’s launch of the 3G iPhone was huge. However, only a small portion of the total iPhone users will be able to take advantage of AT&T’s 3G speeds in the areas they live and work. 3G just isn’t available everywhere yet. And it isn’t as fast as users may want.

Apple has clearly held back on features that consumers want, because the 3G network that it will run on just isn’t robust enough to support high bandwidth applications.

Technology, such as the iPhone, has advanced faster than the networks which support them. That means that users will still have to wait while that YouTube video downloads and forget about uploading a 10 Megapixel photo from your camera-phone. We have the ability to produce products which our available carriers just aren’t equipped to support at the moment.

For this reason, 3G is already dead before it has even been fully deployed. It certainly seems that the carriers would be better off spending their money testing and rolling out 4G as quickly as possible to allow for the speed and coverage that 3G just isn’t able to manage.

And what is 4G? Standards are hard to pin down because they mean something different to each carrier and standards group. But in general, 4G is just a faster network which would enable carriers to begin allowing devices on their networks which require larger bandwidth (such as an iPhone 3.0).

In turn, device manufacturers could begin offering devices which offer more robust consumer applications such as higher megapixel cameras, higher definition video, full streaming of movies and music, instant over-the-air download of new applications and content, and full duplex video conferencing. Essentially, the goal should be to create a wireless network which supports a smartphone that allows you to do everything you could do on your home computer.

As always, problems persist with the standards and which back-end systems the carriers should use for 4G. Sprint has announced an intention to use Mobile WiMax for its 4G. Others are looking at LTE and various other forms of WiFi.

While the goals and end results are the same, the lack of a single standard will make it much easier for carriers to lock customers onto their networks. And that will continue to hold back the ultimate evolution of the wireless consumer product industry.

It is the hope of consumer advocates everywhere that by the time 5G rolls around, devices will become carrier independent - dynamically able to chose the network with the lowest cost and best signal strength.

Carriers will cease being “Phone” companies and will instead become wireless broadband carriers. All sorts of devices will be able to connect to the wireless realm. Your car, phone, computer, and any number of home appliances will all be connected to the internet. And it looks more and more likely that devices will soon become more aware of each other, allowing your phone to let your garage door, lights, TV, computers, and kitchen know that you are home and ready for your evening meal and entertainment.

We Bring You The Cinema Experience In To The Living Room

All the rage these days is having your own home theater system. You don’t need to go to the movie theater, music concert or anything of that nature. Purchase everything on DVD or BluRay and watch from the comfort of your own home.

I was looking at our nice little set up. Very standard actually, we had a television, VCR, DVD and a game system. My significant other and our children wanted more. I called the local TV installation company in Toronto to see what their suggestions would be for upgrading. They said if I found a system that I thought I would enjoy that they would be happy to install it.

So it was off to the local electronics store. The salesman was very happy to help. He then led me through various in store set ups so I could get the feel for a home theater experience. I loved them all. You truly feel like you are sitting in a real theater.

The salesman pointed that it would be best to have someone install one of these systems for me. Their service department was back logged and charged quite a bit more for installation than the Home Theater and TV installation company I had already spoken with. I assured the salesman I had that part under control. I chose the smaller set up, since we had a small living room.

I paid for the purchase and scheduled delivery. When I got home, I informed the family that we would have our own home theater system delivered by the end of the week. I told my significant other we would need to schedule for installation with the Toronto TV installation company, for the day of or day after delivery. We agreed the day after would be best. One never knows exactly what time a delivery company will arrive until they get to your home. All appointments were scheduled.

We waited all week with bated breath for our new home theater to be delivered. There were so many boxes brought into the house. The delivery men had a small problem with directions. Which was a scary thought as they were also part of the electronics store’s installation team; they set the boxes down in the foyer instead of in the living room.

Then insisted that they were there to install the system, I explained very nicely that we had the Toronto TV installation crew on their way out because I had been told that the electronics store did not have the time. They took their gruff selves out the door.

Finally the Toronto TV installation crew showed up and within an hour we were set up to party with the best of them. Speakers around the room, new plasma screen television, new stereo and more. It was a sight to behold. We had invited friends over for the evening to have a movie night party. We had an absolute blast and planned for a weekly movie night party.

Everyone who cooks can use some of these practical, time saving kitchen tools. While you can get by with a bare bones kitchen and a few old pots and pans, a lot of dishes are harder to make or more time consuming to prepare. 1.Bread Maker. Imagine getting up in the morning to the smell of freshly baked bread, ready for you to take out of the machine and slice up for toast or for lunch sandwiches. And all you had to do was load the ingredients the night before, then set the timer.

2.Automatic Coffee Maker. This goes well with the bread maker. Add coffee grounds and water, set the clock and have coffee waiting for you when you stumble out of bed in the morning. Rise and shine!

3.High Quality Knife Set. I used to make do with an old set of mismatched knives given to me without a knife block. Some of the handles were loose, and they had to be stored in a drawer. The new set sits on the counter top. The edges stay sharp longer, and the set contains knives for most needs. More room in the drawer, too.

4.Plastic Food Containers. With a set of containers for food storage, saving leftovers is much easier. Many have lids with vents, for use in microwaves. Another way to use them is to freeze food for future use. They look better than old margarine and yogurt containers, too.

5.Immersion Blender. These hand-held gadgets can be placed in large drinking glasses, pots, or mixing bowls. You can mix drinks, baking ingredients, gravies or even whip potatoes. They take up less space and are easier to clean than traditional blenders as well.

6.Toaster Oven. A toaster oven can cook toasted items with toppings, like garlic bread and mini pizzas, as well as make toast. Small baking projects are possible too, if you don’t want to or can’t use a larger oven.

7.Sandwich Grill. For grilled cheese, tuna melts and patty melts, these grills seal the edge of the sandwich so cheese and other things can’t leak out.

These are some of the kitchen gadgets I like to use myself. For the larger items, maybe you can borrow one to test drive it before you buy. That is what I did with the bread maker. Our food containers, coffee maker and hand blender see daily use, and the toaster oven and sandwich grill once or twice a week. All in all, a good investment for my family. Happy cooking!

The Different Types of Hay Balers

The hay baler helped change the farming industry by allowing for the quick and efficient gathering of hay into bales (either round or square) where they can be easily move to wherever they are needed. A hay bale accumulator is another type of equipment that is used to gather and transport hay bales.

Round Baler

Known early on as roto balers, the round baler is the most common type of hay baler, producing cylindrically shaped bales of hay. A round baler rolls the hay up inside of it via rubber belts until it has reach the proper size, at which time the hay is wrapped or twined to hold it together.

The 45 ACP Hand Gun Is Back

The issue of 9mm vs. 45 calibers is relatively unimportant in the military (any military) of today. It is like the US Army worrying itself sick about a saber for the cavalry. Some companies have come up with a lot better solution to the pistol for today’s soldiers and Marines that don’t need or wish to carry an assault rifle. LOAD and LOCK! A couple of thoughts and hopes. 1st-”Don’t count your chickens ’til they’re hatched” We need to write/contact/input the testers and decision makers and let them know WE want the .45 ACP.

Second-For the hundred, no thousand plus time a 9mm bullet is .355 cal, a .45 is BIGGER thus it makes a BIGGER hole in the target. This means more blood loss- which translates to the enemy gets killed and the American hopefully comes home and tells his grandkids about reality land versus the “High-Tech” star wars game players.

3rd-For the devoted 9mm types out there(yes you with the coco-puffs) read the FBI report about the “Miami Shootout”, after which they traded in their 9mm pistols, because of the facts of bullet wound examinations. 4th-Check-out the winners of most all pistol matches: Almost everyone uses a 1911/1911A1 in .45 ACP! There is a reason that most of the militaries that have tested it have rejected it. Now, if the military wants a smaller primary weapon, the weapon already exists in the inventory. It is the SOCOM pistol made by HK, which for offensive purposes is a whole lot better than the P90.

Note that this contract is being let by USSOCOM. That means it is for a sidearm, not a primary weapon. And as a sidearm (meaning a secondary weapon carried by someone who also carries a primary weapon, usually a rifle), the M1911 .45 is superior to the P90 and to the HK and definitely to the Beretta. Don’t be surprised if a Glock wins this contract.

I don’t expect Glock to win a US military contract - the American military doesn’t seem to like the idea of a pistol without multiple external safety levers and mechanisms. Glock pistols, great as they may be, use simple, idiot-proof internal safety mechanisms. If the Army did go with a Glock, it would be interesting to see if they would adopt the new 45 GAP cartridge.

Same caliber bullet, even available in the same bullet weights, loaded into a shorter case - to allow for a smaller handgun that takes advantage of modern propellants. I personally don’t like Glock. I have large hands and shoot pistols with a double handed grip. I personally like the Colt 1911A1 series for its balance, weight, and comfort. But that’s me. How about the USP .45? SOFs of course have been using the Mk23 for some time.

Who buys isn’t always who gets. The Army’s Automotive Tank Command has bought pistols for the USAF for example.SOCOM is the buyer; everybody is going to get these. That’s what the “joint” in Joint Combat Pistol means. SOCOM sure does not need up to 645,000 pistols over 10 years. Some things are already set. They spent the last year or so with market surveys, field suitability tests, etc looking at what’s out there, trying stuff, deciding what they wanted.

The Future Handgun System program wanted adjustable grips, accessory rail, threaded bbl, modular/variable trigger operating system (SA to DA to DAO). The SOF Combat Pistol program wanted a 45 ACP and would have settled for another 1911. Those were combined into this Joint Combat Pistol (JCP) program.

They want a 45 ACP, not a 45 GAP. Don’t be surprised if Glock can’t even compete depending on what the details are for the trigger operating system. Some folks think they had the HK USP full size and compact Tactical/P2000 in mind when they wrote the specs. Details will be in the RFP (request for proposals) that comes out next.
