Mobile Phones and Health Hazards

Cell Phones No Comments

There has been a huge controversy regarding the health risks that mobile phones pose to humans through their usage. Innumerable studies have been conducted in order to find out whether such a problem actually exist or it is just rumours? However the studies have not been able to provide a clear picture of the existing controversy.

Mobile phones emit radiations that according to some scientists is hazardous to health and might cause brain tumour and other related ailments. But there is no solid evidence to evaluate the risks among long-term, heavy users and for potentially long induction periods. It is commonly seen as a result of many studies that it may take at least 10 years of mobile phone exposure before researchers are able to detect any significant increase in related concerns.

So, after scrutinizing the entire situation, it is advisable to follow some safety tips to help reduce your microwave exposure:

- use an ear piece or Bluetooth as it will help directing the microwave exposure away from your head where the vulnerable areas of the brains have been shown to have the risk factors

- try to avoid giving kids cell phones as much as possible

- always receive a call from the left ear, because if you use the right one, it may affect brain directly.

However, these days mobile phones are created with highly advanced technology using the best materials and components. No brand can sustain in the market if its products are not safe and secure for the consumers

Ironically, and to our benefit, not all studies have shown negative results. So, at the end of the day, until this controversy settles down, it is advisable to be a little cautious while using your phones to be on the safer side as no one can do without them.

Making A Statement With Your Christian Ringtones

Cell Phones No Comments

There are those days when it just feels like you are surrounded on all sides by cell phones that seem to be “ringing off the hook.” These days, any time you are out in public you are subjected to listening to other people’s choices in caller ringtones and some of those choices are not so pleasant. For those who seek an alternative, Christian ringtones can be a very positive way to be different.

Of course, there are the ring tones that came with your cell phone, and perhaps your service provider was nice enough to offer you a few free downloadable ones as a bonus so that you would have a better selection. But, these days the cellular phone technology has advanced to the point where people can enjoy having real music ringtones on their phones. As more types of free music ringtones have become available there has been an increase in the variety of Christian music for ringtones that are available as well.

In most all of the Christian world, the popularity of Christian ringtones has increased in recent years. Many people like the Christian real music ringtones not only because they are easier on the ears but also because they are not used as often so their ringtone is likely easier to recognize when their phone starts ringing.

Christian music in general has become more and more popular in recent years, and ringtones made from this music is a perfect way to carry your favorite Christian music with you wherever you go. With the popularity of free music ones in general, and Christian music ringtones as well, there are numerous websites where you can go to find a plethora of really wonderful downloadable music files to add to your phone. While not all of the real music ringtones would fit into the Christian music genre, there are still many Christian tunes that have been turned into caller ringtones.

Some people might think that you must be a zealous Christian to use Christian caller ringtones on your cell phone. But, the reality is that if you like the way the Christian music ringtone sounds, then whether they have a Christian message or not, you are free to download them to enjoy. The great things about the many real music ones that are available today is that people all across the globe can download and use them to their heart’s content.

There is a wide selection of ringtones by many of today’s popular Christian musicians that can be found on the internet sites that offer free music ones, and also on the sites that charge a fee for their downloadable ringtones. In many cases, you will have a choice between monophonic and polyphonic cellular ringtones and you should choose the type that suits your phone.

There are many people who hold their faith dear to them and who also feel that with Christian ringtones on their phone, they are participating in a small and simple way to share the “good news” of the gospel. In general, Christian music is upbeat and positive and the use of these ringtones can help inject a positive “vibe” into the atmosphere.

iPhone 3G Outdated On Arrival

Cell Phones No Comments

The hype leading up to Apple’s launch of the 3G iPhone was huge. However, only a small portion of the total iPhone users will be able to take advantage of AT&T’s 3G speeds in the areas they live and work. 3G just isn’t available everywhere yet. And it isn’t as fast as users may want.

Apple has clearly held back on features that consumers want, because the 3G network that it will run on just isn’t robust enough to support high bandwidth applications.

Technology, such as the iPhone, has advanced faster than the networks which support them. That means that users will still have to wait while that YouTube video downloads and forget about uploading a 10 Megapixel photo from your camera-phone. We have the ability to produce products which our available carriers just aren’t equipped to support at the moment.

For this reason, 3G is already dead before it has even been fully deployed. It certainly seems that the carriers would be better off spending their money testing and rolling out 4G as quickly as possible to allow for the speed and coverage that 3G just isn’t able to manage.

And what is 4G? Standards are hard to pin down because they mean something different to each carrier and standards group. But in general, 4G is just a faster network which would enable carriers to begin allowing devices on their networks which require larger bandwidth (such as an iPhone 3.0).

In turn, device manufacturers could begin offering devices which offer more robust consumer applications such as higher megapixel cameras, higher definition video, full streaming of movies and music, instant over-the-air download of new applications and content, and full duplex video conferencing. Essentially, the goal should be to create a wireless network which supports a smartphone that allows you to do everything you could do on your home computer.

As always, problems persist with the standards and which back-end systems the carriers should use for 4G. Sprint has announced an intention to use Mobile WiMax for its 4G. Others are looking at LTE and various other forms of WiFi.

While the goals and end results are the same, the lack of a single standard will make it much easier for carriers to lock customers onto their networks. And that will continue to hold back the ultimate evolution of the wireless consumer product industry.

It is the hope of consumer advocates everywhere that by the time 5G rolls around, devices will become carrier independent - dynamically able to chose the network with the lowest cost and best signal strength.

Carriers will cease being “Phone” companies and will instead become wireless broadband carriers. All sorts of devices will be able to connect to the wireless realm. Your car, phone, computer, and any number of home appliances will all be connected to the internet. And it looks more and more likely that devices will soon become more aware of each other, allowing your phone to let your garage door, lights, TV, computers, and kitchen know that you are home and ready for your evening meal and entertainment.

As remote as 5G sounds, it is really just around the corner - and many carriers may begin jumping to some features of 5G before they have even completed their 3G or 4G networks. The most competitive carriers will be rewarded with the most revolutionary devices from Apple and others.

Apple’s exclusive contract with ATT will expire and It doesn’t take a futurist to see that the phone companies will fall all over themselves to build networks which can support the hottest cutting edge products that Nokia, Microsoft, Google, and Apple are able to throw into the public space (at least for those carriers who hope to survive).

Many users will buy the new iPhone with a sense of regret that it doesn’t support lightening fast data transfer, video conferencing, and a better camera. But there is little doubt that consumer and business demand for such features will continue to push the surviving telecom industry to xG and beyond.

Cellular Ringtones Have Increased In Popularity

Cell Phones No Comments

In recent years, people in the United States have enjoyed having more disposable income and as a result they have been able to better keep up with all of the new gadgets and electronic devices that have come along with the electronic and internet age. One of the most common devices that just about everyone finds a way to have, regardless of their budget restrictions, is a cell phone and many people love to collect the many different cellular ringtones that are available these days.

Even if someone isn’t interested in collecting as many ringtones as they can find, or squeeze into the available memory of their phone, plenty of people still want to find just the perfect caller ringtones to fit their personality. Cellular customers are interested in having a selection of good quality free mobile ringtones that match up with their tastes, interests and lifestyles.

Since customers want choice and variety in cellular ringtones, the leading cellular companies, and also many third party suppliers as well, are working hard to make more wireless ringtones available. In many cases, these additional downloadable ringtones are completely free and are provided as a service to the wireless customer.

However, there are some cellular providers that only offer a very narrow selection of free ringtones to their cellular customers. Some of these companies allow their customers to browse vast libraries of all kinds of real music ringtones and various specialty caller ringtones right from their phones. But, when the cellular customer has found just the perfect ringtone to download, they discover that they have to pay a fee in order to download their ring tone of choice.

The fact of the matter is that the major cellular telecommunication companies are generating an enormous amount of extra revenue just by selling their newest and hottest releases of real music ringtones. And, they make it so simple and painless, since the few dollars they charge for their new wireless ringtones is automatically applied to your cell phone bill. Many times people don’t realize how many new ringtones they have downloaded until they get their bill at the end of the month and see multiple charges for the downloadable ringtones.

It has been estimated that the cell phone industry has profited to the tune of about $4 billion dollars in 2004 thanks to these downloadable ringtones that they have started to charge for. It is no wonder that cellular customers are scrambling and searching all over the internet to find free cell ringtones that they can download and enjoy without the extra cost. While people absolutely enjoy the variety, very few of them are happy about paying more for ringtones than they would to download the MP3 of the newest release by their favorite musician.

Nowadays it is clear that mobile phones are not some kind of fad that will fade away, but they are essential communication devices that people rely on and that will be around, in one form or another, until something better comes along. People have a desire to use their cellular ringtones to set them apart from the crowd, and as a result, the internet sites that offer downloadable ringtones for free will also be around for years to come.

Overall, though, a lot is improved and a price cut that significant really is incredible.

Choosing Your Cell Phone Service Plan

Cell Phones No Comments

You’ve spent many hours researching mobile phones and finally found one that meets all of your needs. Now the tough part begins. With the many facets and features of cell phones service plans, which one is right for you and your family? A good way to begin is by first determining whether you need a plan just for you, or whether a plan encompassing more than one phone may benefit you more. Here are a few pointers to get you started.

Individual Plans

Individual plans vary from carrier to carrier, but there are a couple of issues that are generally core to cell phones service: coverage and value. If you plan to travel with your, you will benefit from looking into what sort of wireless services your carrier offers.

No matter how great the plan seems, it is of absolute no value if you get stranded in an area where your carrier has no service. Roaming charges can be quite substantial. Get an idea of the number minutes you anticipate using during a billing period.

Make sure you choose service that includes enough minutes plus breathing room. Extra charges or “overages” apply once you’ve talked past your allotted minutes. Many carriers now let you roll over certain minutes from month to month. Find a cell phone carrier with a competitive plan that fits how often and how long you talk.

Family Plans

As with individual plans, family plans can vary by carrier. The two main factors in picking a family’s wireless services are shared minutes and network calling. It’s pretty essential to find a plan that allows family members to call each other without using up minutes.

This is a great way to use mobile phones as a means of communicating between family members without using up shared minutes. And did you know that plan members don’t have to live in the same household. You can set up your aging parents who live nearby or your oldest child who just moved out on her own.

Don’t be intimidated by doing some research to help you make your decision regarding cell phones service. Also know that mobile phone carriers are very competitive and want your business. Inquire about what they can do for you. Give them a chance to earn your business.

Take advantage of trial usage periods some providers offer. It is a good way to determine if they can provide the coverage you need and give you flexibility in when and how your minutes are used, along with satisfactory customer service.

What Are The Uses Of Bluetooth Phones?

Cell Phones No Comments

What is Bluetooth, why is it in your cell phone and why should you care? Bluetooth is an exciting new technology the lets various devices from various manufacturers and providers communicate with each other on a shared wireless playing field.

Basically an ultra low power radio signal, Bluetooth phones allow wireless access to other consumer electronics devices within a range of about 30 feet. Though it may sound a bit complicated, it really is not. For those who frequently rely on handheld electronic devices such as phones, cameras and PDAs the absolute ease of use and flexibility make Bluetooth a technology you may soon grow to rely on.

Other accessories available for mobile phones with Bluetooth technology include hands-free headsets, car and motorcycle kits and speakers and speaker phones. The range of use of your accessories depends on the level of Bluetooth technology that your phone employs.

It will most likely use either version 1.1 or 1.2 and have a 30 foot range of use between accessories and the Bluetooth cell phone. Version 2.0 can reach a range of up to 300 feet in some cases. Check your particular model to see what version you have to get a better idea of what range you can expect.

Several options exist for Bluetooth cell phone car kits from your local consumer electronics store that plug directly into your car and are accessible wirelessly through a headset or speaker phone. Push button or voice options exist for calling and music selections in many of these devices, and your Bluetooth cell phone is functional as soon as you turn on your car or motorcycle. Many car makers are offering it as an option in their new cars.

Bluetooth phones can keep you connected through wireless, hands-free technology. Not only are your voice and data communication needs covered, you get the added benefit of internet capabilities.

With numerous accessories available for your specific needs, your life may just get a little bit easier. And with all of that convenience and flexibility from a low power radio signal, it’s time to take another look at what is lurking inside your cell phone.

Changing A Phone Or Service Plan Without Changing The Cell Phone Number

Cell Phones No Comments

There might be lots of situations which may require you to change the cell phone number. You may want to move to a more convenient plan or you may fall in love with an amazing new phone offered by a different carrier for free. In all these cases you might want your number to remain unchanged. Cell phone number change is connected with many annoying problems. So what are the ways to keep your old number?

Reasons to Keep Your Cell Phone Number

In most cases, changing a number when signing up a new plan is not a good idea. The first reason is obvious: your partners, friends and family would lose your contact information.

Secondly, you may be assigned a new number that used to belong to someone else. New phone numbers are actually a limited resource as the amount of subscribers continuously grows. Sometimes it is not possible to issue a brand new number for each subscriber. In addition to the occasional calls from the previous owner’s friends, inheriting someone’s cell phone number may also mean receiving messages from unwanted content subscriptions. Many people subscribe to different services that send all kind of information, starting from weather forecast and currency rates and finishing with dating agencies proposals. The cost of these services is about few dollars a month, but you may be really surprised to see them in your monthly bill.

It’s easy to see that keeping your original number will help you to avoid these problems.

Is it Possible to Keep my Current Cell Phone Number?

The answer depends on your situation. If you are not going to change the operator, keeping your current number is easy even if you want to change (upgrade) your phone. Regarding cell phone upgrading, you must be aware of the fact that many operators subsidize their customers so that they can get a new phone for free or at a discount.

If you still are going to change your operator, you may be able to ‘port’ your existing cell phone number to a new contract. However, each country has its own phone numbering plan, so it may be impossible in your area. You must be aware of once you port the existing number, your old account will automatically close. Make sure that you will not have to pay an early termination fee.

The third option is redirecting calls from your old cell phone number to a new one. This service is also offered by some companies. However, it may be quite expensive.

Signing Up To A Shared Cell Phone Plan

Cell Phones No Comments

Shared cell phone plan, also known as a family plan, allows you to share one plan account between two cell phones. Currently the shared plans are one of the most popular plans available. The main reason of this fact is that a single shared plan costs less then a couple of single plans. This article explains the details of using a shared cell phone plan.

What are Shared Plans?

Shared cell phone plans allow two or more subscribers to share a common pool of minutes under a single monthly bill. This means that the members of a group can use a single plans allotment of minutes in any proportion, as long as the group does not exceed a particular limit. Usually a shared plan allows unlimited calling between members of a group.

A shared plan cost is comparable to a single plan cost, so it gives the subscribers an opportunity to save a significant amount of money each month for over a year. The shared plans are especially good in case one of the cell phones is used less frequently.

Shared cell phone plans have such names as Family Time, Family Talk, Team Share and so on. However, the subscribers need not to be a family to be able to use a Family plan. Such plans may be convenient for friends, couples and even workgroups.

The advantages of switching to a shared cell phone plan are one of the most popular reasons of changing service plans over the world. Shared cell phone plans are provided by the most part of operators. Furthermore, many phone companies offer the latest phone models for free when switching to a new plan, so it’s possible to upgrade a cell phone in the process.

Should I Switch to a Shared Plan?

Whether your group or family was previously all with one provider on different account, or its members use different services, you should definitely consider switching to a shared cell phone plan. This can result in huge savings compared to paying multiple individual fees. To summarize, here is a list of shared plan benefits:

- Shares single pool of minutes between few different cell phones.
- Unlimited communication between the group members.
- Low fee for the second and the following phone lines.
- A single monthly bill.

Millions of people over the world take advantages of shared cell phones. They’re one of the easiest plans to set up and the greatest thing about them is you can monitor everyone who is on your plan. New Series Of Business Devices - Nokia E90, E65, E61i

Cell Phones No Comments

Nokia has announced the second generation of their popular e-series business devices.

The new series includes the E90 communicator, the E65 slider, and the E61i. The E61i specializes in providing advanced email technology on a slim layout. The models offer some brilliant upgrades over the original E-series, as will be discussed further.

All three operate on quad-band GSM technology, allowing the user access to coverage all over the world. The models also sport 3G technologies, giving them a high-speed connection to data networks, where 3G coverage is available.

The E90 communicator adds WLAN technology to the picture, making it perfect for the home or business network. The user can connect the device to their network at home, enabling them to access the internet without using their mobile network.

The model is equipped with the Nokia S60 browser, which is capable of showing full web pages. Many similar models have partial, mobile browsers that can only display part of the site. The browser offers highly needed, increased functionality.

The communicator also sports a powerful 3.2 mega-pixel camera that has an auto-focus. This still doesn’t bring the device up to European standards, but makes it one of the most powerful available in the United States.
The E65 gives users one-touch access to their favorite applications thanks to programmable quick keys.

The model can also be easily integrated into corporate phone systems - Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Cisco, Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Alcatel and Avaya one-X Mobile Edition for Nokia solutions.

The Nokia E61i was designed specifically for users that need advanced email functionality. The device offers the ability to handle attachments and is capable of handling the editing of documents. The model has a full keyboard.

The E61i can run the following business email formats: Nokia Intellisync Wireless Email, Mail for Exchange, Good Mobile Messaging, Seven Mobile Mail, and BlackBerry Connect. The device is equipped with a 2.0 mega-pixel camera.

With these new devices, Nokia is establishing themselves once again as the true global leader of the cell phone industry. Nokia has been the world’s leader for over five years, and should continue to hold their share at least for a while.

Nokia currently holds 35.2 percent of the world’s cell phones market share, and have gained about a percent since last year.

Samsung and LG both lost considerable market share over the last year, losing out to Nokia and Motorola.
Sony Ericsson gained 2% over the last year, but holds only 8%.

Nokia is ahead of the game, and increasing their lead. Users love the powerful models that Nokia seems to be releasing with perfection. It is believed that Nokia can get to 40% market share within the next 2 years.

New Samsung Dual Flip Phone: SCH-U740

Cell Phones No Comments

Verizon has announced that the SCH-U740 from Samsung is now available. The model is quite innovative, offering a never before seen dual hinge. The model flips open two different ways, providing the user with different functionalities from each location.

When the model is flipped open vertically, the traditional way, it offers the standard number pad and screen. When flipped horizontally, the user will find a full qwerty keyboard, allowing for easier text messaging and email functionality.

The phone seamlessly blends mobile and message functionalities, allowing users to send email and text messages quickly. Many such devices are bulky; the SCH-U740 is fairly compact and stylishly designed.

Verizon has an email service called Wireless Sync that allows users to upload contact information from their p.c., and the SCH-U740 is fully compatible with the service. Users can upload phone numbers, email addresses, addresses, calendars, and task information.

The model is a thin clamshell that has a 1.3 mega-pixel camera with a flash. The camera is also video capable. Users are able to record and save video clips and send them to friends and family via their mobile connection.

The Bluetooth capability of the model allows for wireless syncing with the user’s computer. Bluetooth also allows for the use of wireless devices including headsets and speakers, and allows for interactive gaming between friends. Recently, many cars have become Bluetooth capable, allowing users to listen to conversations over their car speakers.

The SCH-U740 also has a 2.2″ thin film transistor display. Thin film transistors are attached to the screen, creating a brilliant display. TFT, as it is commonly known, is considered to be the most advanced technology available.

Samsung has added a microSD card-slot for users that need to access additional memory. The model is ‘get it now’ capable, which means that users can us Verizon’s service to download ring tones, wallpapers, and screen savers. The service also allows for users to use a GPS navigation system.

The model also functions with Verizon’s Vcast service, which means that it is capable of downloading songs, news, sports, entertainment, and videos.

The specifications of the model are quite impressive, it offers a 800 mAh Li-Ion battery, an internal antenna, and weighs about 100 grams. It has a 262000 color screen, speakerphone, and functions well with dual-band service.

Samsung has made some strides in the last year in an attempt to increase their market share. They have lost a little in the last year. Nokia and Motorola have both gained. This quarter, Samsung holds 10.7 percent of global cell phone sales.

Nokia, respectively, is the world’s global leader with 35.2 percent.

With impressive models like the SCH-U740, Samsung should be able to rebound in the next year or two.

Which Phone, Plan and Provider Are Right For You?

Cell Phones No Comments

Cell phones are now owned by the majority of people living in the United States, but worldwide also. With so many companies producing and marketing the use of cellular phones, rates for their use have dramatically reduced within the last four to five years. The size of the phones has decreased, while their number of features and ease of use has increased.

Analog connections are now becoming obsolete, in favor of the clearer and battery-saving digital connection. Many units on the market now are tri-mode, meaning that in addition to analog they use the digital signals of TDMA and CDMA. Strides like these have made mobile communication increasingly popular as well as reliable.

With this popularity, companies have been able to reduce their monthly rates while offering many features free of charge, features that the user is accustomed to paying for on their house phone line. This competition has led many to use their cellular phone as their main phone, or even their only phone.

Some of the features that have made cellular communications so popular are the following: free nights and/or weekends, caller identification, call forwarding, three-way calling, voice mail, text messaging and Internet access. Many of these features are either free or of very low cost.

When combined with the intelligent use of peak minutes and free nights and weekends (usually between 8 am and 8 pm), a consumer can quickly find that a cellular phone plan is cheaper than their home phone plan. The problem is finding out which provider, which plan, and which phone make the most sense for each individual.

Unless a more advanced phone is desired, the Sony Ericsson’s and Nokia’s are reasonably priced and come with a wide array of options. Hidden costs are minimal and with three options for coverage, roaming charges can be reduced to a bare minimum. A plan for thirty to forty dollars offers between 200-400 peak minutes, which is often more than enough for general use.

Many who purchase a cellular phone believe that it will work everywhere, without a glitch. They quickly realize that this is untrue, and oftentimes try to return the phone as defective. However wireless communication is not perfect, nor can it perform as reliably as a landline. There are certain areas, such as basements and electronics stores, where cellular phones just cannot operate. What you are paying for is wireless communication, not another phone line.

However by knowing your phone limits and the limits of your carrier, you can maximize your reliability while using your phone almost as if it is connected to a landline. Many times a mobile phone bill is comparable to that of a home bill, while offering more features and giving you the major advantage of being entirely wireless. I encourage everyone who uses a telephone to compare his or her home bill to that of a cellular customer, and consider joining the millions who already have gone wireless.

The best way to go about choosing a cellular provider is to stop into their local stores and analyze each one’s service through their provided literature and by talking to a representative. I recommend staying away from the service providers in the mall, as oftentimes they have less knowledgeable staff and are less likely to bargain with you on certain aspects of their plans. By gathering all the latest information on all three providers, looking at your current phone bill, and talking to current cellular users, you can have a successful cell phone search.

New Motorola Phone To Be Released: Krzr K3

Cell Phones No Comments

On Feb. 12, 2007, Motorola announced officially a new, high-end model for their already popular Krzr series. The Krazr K3 will join its older brother, the K1, as a brilliantly stylish handset. The model looks very much like the white K1, except its coloration is slightly darker.

The K3 created to increase the users ability to download and upload data, sporting HSDPA connectivity. 3G, or third generation, high-speed data is the biggest selling point Motorola has been in need of such a model to replace the Razr. The original Krzr was designed with second-generation internet connectivity.

The K3’s older brother, the Krzr K1 is a very nice model, but is similar in features to the Razr series. The K3 is a high-speed version so users that download media and send media messages should love it. Inevitably, Krzr K1 users will make the upgrade for the speed.

The K3 sports some impressive features highlighted by its Bluetooth capability. The model is equipped with a system that allows users to print directly to a Bluetooth printer. Naturally the model can do all the standard types of Bluetooth functions. Users can wirelessly connect to speakers, headsets, and Bluetooth car systems.

The model sports 2 digital cameras and offers a new technology that allows users to make 2-way video calls. The user can put the K3 on speakerphone, and the inside camera will allow for the transmission video of the caller to the other end of the conversation. The screen will show the person the user is talking too.

The outer camera boasts 2.0 mega-pixels of resolution and can capture stills and clips and has an 8x digital zoom. This resolution has become the industry standard, and is pretty close to the best PDA models’ resolution, which are currently around 3 mega-pixels in the U.S.

Some models that can be purchased in Europe and Asia interestingly offer higher than 6 mega-pixels of resolution. One popular model available in Korea sports a 10 mega-pixel camera.

The model offers 64 MB of internal memory, and is equipped with a microSD card-slot. It is believed at this time that the model will be able to handle a memory card with up to 4 GB of memory. The will allow the user to store an entire movie in standard mpeg format.

The K3 is a remarkably gorgeous handset. The model’s appeal is highlighted with two very nice gray colors and blue lighting. Even though the original Krzr did quite well, its sales numbers will surely be blown away by its high-, high-speed younger brother.

New MOTO Cell Phones: StartacIII and M900

Cell Phones No Comments

Motorola has announced that they will be releasing two new handsets, the StartacIII and the M900. The release of the new models confirms Motorola’s voracious appetite to get more handsets into the market.

The StartacIII is a remodeled classic. The original Startac put Motorola on the map in 1996, when it was released as the world’s smallest and lightest model. It was also the first significant flip-style model in the world. It weighed just 3.1 ounces. Interestingly, you can still buy the original model on eBay.

The StartacIII borrows from the original’s aesthetic features, sporting a dark black outer casing. The new model sports silver streamlining that makes it look almost like a Razr-Startac hybrid.

Interestingly, the model doesn’t have an outer screen. Motorola has included some creative lighting on the outer shell that allows users to see if they have missed calls and text messages. The model also offers a scratch resistant screen and outer case.

Original Startac users will love the distinctive Startac chime, a nice touch by Motorola will which surely have somewhat of a nostalgic effect. The model also sports a fully functional mP3 player, which has become a must-have.

The model also comes equipped with a 2.0-inch, high definition TFT QVGA LCD screen. Motorola has been using similar technology for their handset for a few years; TFT is widely considered to be the best screen technology available.

It appears that the StartacIII will be released first in Korea. The release date will be sometime in March. For now, Motorola will keep the model out of the U.S.; surely a few handsets will be sent over and sold here.

The M900 is also a new handset from Motorola. The model was built to be a mobile, cellular solution for homeland security and other emergency and federal service groups. The phone will be used by local, state, and federal government agencies.

The model was designed with easy to install vehicle interfaces, making it possible to use during critical missions and in high stress environments. The model also boasts 2-watt frequency amplification, which makes the model function in very limited service areas.

The M900 also has advanced voice activation technology and functions. This enables the user to easily dial when touching the handset isn’t possible. The phone sports first of its kind ability to voice dial using numbers only.

The model also is equipped with hands-free audio quality for a clearer pickup, better background-noise suppression and echo cancellation.

It is highly unlikely that the M900 will be released as a mainstream handset. Its capabilities and functions don’t at all line up with was most consumers are looking for at this time.

With these latest models, Motorola continues to meet the needs of different consumer groups.

Fixed Mobile Convergence: Bridging the Cellular Landline Divide

Cell Phones No Comments

As more and more consumers opt out of traditional telephone services in favor of cellular phones, the undeniable trend in the telecommunications industry is the development of fixed to mobile convergence, or FMC, to allow cell phones to seamlessly switch from the cellular network to a landline network infrastructure, and back again.

The dwindling revenues and loss of market share by the traditional telephone companies, along with the growing use of IP networks to carry data and voice, are spurring a business model that is transitioning from distance calling, to a model based on calling a person. For the consumer this means, for one thing, the inevitable extinction of long distance charges as we know them.

In an FMC environment, users would have the advantage of utilizing the cellular networks outside, never having to sacrifice connectivity for mobility. As the caller enters an indoor environment, a place where many cell calls get dropped, the converged handset would detect the presence of a wireless network and automatically switch to the lower frequency, preserving call quality throughout the transition.

The result of this would be the emergence of one caller, one phone, and one phone number for the transmission of data and voice. In a business environment, the transition could be made wirelessly through the corporate LANs PBX, whereas in a residential situation, the phone would detect wireless access points that connect directly to a broadband Internet connection, or the PSTN.

The key to the success of FMC is the hand set. While there are many models available today that are capable of switching from cellular to WiFi networks, widespread acceptance is presumed to be contingent on the dropping prices of the handsets, and the types of plans offered by the carriers.

With the release of the Apple iPhone, it was announced that Cingular Communications (now at&t wireless) would be the carrier responsible for cellular communication, and presumably, the implementer of cell to WiFi calling plans.

One current example of fixed to mobile convergence is the new at&t unity plan. With the acquisition of the Cingular wireless network and all its subscribers, at&t is offering a community calling plan that allows users to call nationwide to any of at&ts wireless or wireline numbers free of charge.

As voice over IP telephony gains more widespread acceptance, it is widely expected that by the year 2010 the idea of fixed to mobile convergence will be well entrenched in the telecommunications industry.

Personalize Your Mobile With Ringtones

Cell Phones No Comments

With the cell phone market steadily becoming one of the largest industries in the world, it is no surprise that thousands of consumers are spending the majority of their money on this hot item. While some cell phones are rather pricy, most mobile phones include addicting features. One of the most popular features are the hundreds of different mobile ring tones. With the ability to download any song, movie theme, or voice tone, the opportunities are endless.

Although cell phones are not a fresh item, mobile ring tones have not become customizable until recent years. Once Nokia began to change the outlook of ring tones in 1997, users were able to pick specific sounds for when their phones rang. These sounds came in the form of popular songs, silly messages, or just midi melodies. Unfortunately, they were midi-based and did not include real music. Luckily, as technology began to progress, true music ring tones appeared which allowed users to play the actual mp3 on their cell phone. In other words, instead of a melody, one could actually hear the real music, as if a CD were playing.

With thousands of mobile phone users now having the opportunity to pick a song based on their personality and preference, the choices are endless. As a result, the majority of cell phone companies now allow users to customize what ring tone plays when specific people call. For instance, if a mother called a daughter’s cell phone, then she would have a specific mobile ring tone. Boyfriends, best friends, and co-workers can also be customized. By assigning various songs and melodies to different people, the phone owner will easily know who is calling.

While these mobile ring tones have made quite a splash, it is important to know that there are many different types. For instance, there are cheaper ring tones which only offer midi melodies. These monophonic ring tones are a dollar or two less, and are a great alternative for people with a budget. Generally, they cost around $1.99-2.99. On the other hand, true ring tones provide the user with the mp3 version. Although this is more expensive, users will be able to hear their favorite song, no matter what type of cell phone they have.

Luckily, ordering these mobile ring tones is extremely easy, even if you are technology handicapped. Many cell phones have a “Get it Now” button, which immediately brings the user to a cell phone ring tone store. Luckily, most programs offer a free trial download, which is great if you are unsure of what store to pick. By browsing through the selections, previewing the tones, and then pressing the purchase button, cell phone users can have as many ring tones as they’d like. If your cell phone does not have this button, you can easily acquire ring tones through the internet. There are hundreds of great websites like ringtonejukebox and unlimitedringtones that offer affordable music. After you have selected a ring tone, you send it to your cell phone number, and you automatically have the music at your fingertips.

No matter what type of cell phone user you are, ring tones are a wonderful way to spice up a phone call. We all love personalized music and messages; therefore this is a great opportunity to have fun with your phone. From movie themes to favorite rap songs - our phones will effortlessly reflect who we are.

All The Secrets About Getting The Right Plan For You

Cell Phones No Comments

In this day and age it is hard to even dream about living without a cell phone. Over the last few years, cell phone have begun to advance not just in the area of technology but also in terms of the particular types of plans now available to consumers today. In fact there are literally hundreds of different types of plans available on the market and they can all be categorized into three groups: Multiple-account plans, single person plans and prepaid.

Multiple Account Plans

Multiple account plans are designed to save money for people with either families or couples looking to create a joint account. Usually these particular plans save people a lot of money in the long run, especially family plans. Family plans are great for parents who are looking to keep tabs on how much their children are spending each month. You can actually create a limit that will stop the user from making any more calls once they have surpassed it.

Most couples these days are opting for a joint user plan, as it saves the hassle of having to pay for two separate accounts. Also there are usually deals that go along with signing up for these accounts and they usually include things like ‘buy one phone, get one free’ or sometimes they allow you extra free minutes every month. If you are in a family or a long-term relationship, these deals are definitely the best ones to go for.

Single Person Cell Phone Plans

Single person plans are for people who have no need for more than one cell phone. Most plans have a contract of around 24 months and include a free cell phone. The reason why people choose to go for these particular plans is because all the payments are automated. There are lots of different plans, all with different rates and features.

For example if you decide to go on a $49 per month plan, you may get around $230 worth of calls. However you must be careful because if you exceed this limit, the charges increase ten-fold and you may get caught with an enormous bill at the end of the month. Most services allow you to keep tabs on how much you have spent so far.

Prepaid Cell Phone Plans

Prepaid plans are probably the most popular plans on the market. They allow you to only pay for what you spend. If you buy $30 worth of ‘credit’ then you will have $30 worth of calls. If you buy $50 worth of credit, you will have $50 worth of calls, however this is not always the case, as most providers offer free incentives for different plans.

For example if you buy $30 worth of credit, you may have a choice to go on a plan that will give you ’so many’ free calls per month. Therefore you might even receive $100 worth of calls just from paying $30. These plans are great for people who do not want to commit to a long term plan as there are no contracts. The only thing these plans don’t provide is a reduction in the price of cell phones.

Whatever plan you decide to choose, make sure it suits your lifestyle and is most financially viable for your current circumstances. Good Luck!

GSM Cell Phones and Their Benefits

Cell Phones No Comments

GSM world cell phones are the talk of the industry. Many businesses and individuals are looking into this latest technology. So for the novice, what is GSM? Simply put, GSM is a digital cellular technology that is open and can transmit voice and data. Where GSM differs from older technology is that the system divides each channel into eight time-slots which allows the same phone to be used around the world.

Using these cell phones gives you access to the same services on your cell phone whether you are in the United States or Europe or anywhere else there is a signal. You can use the same telephone number and have the same access as you would in your hometown in any of more than 200 hundred countries.

So why is this important? The GSM world cell phones give you the ability to have one phone and travel around the world with it. You do not need to worry about changing SIM cards or other elements of your phone, or have to take the dreaded second cell phone with you.

Travelers like things made as easy as possible. The bane of many travelers’ existence has been the need to have two or more cell phones with them when they travel and then try to guess which cell phone will work in which country. This new technology allows you to take only one cell phone with you and have confidence that it will work, including all the features you need, no matter where you travel to.

Sure there are some remote areas where the GSM world cell phone will not work, however, for the vast majority of travelers these cell phones will be the only cell phone they need. It is easy to see why travelers are rejoicing over this new technology. The only thing they have to worry about is having the right electrical adapter to chair their world phone.

As you search online for the best cell phone, you will undoubtedly be impressed with the GSM world cell phones. For anyone who travels out of the country, the practicality of these phones cannot be overstated. Priced right and with a good selection of models to choose from, it is only a matter of time before world cell phones become more popular than traditional cell phones.

The world is a big place but just got a little smaller thanks to the newest technology that has brought us GSM world cell phones.

The Advanced Wireless Spectrum Auction- Over Before it Began

Cell Phones No Comments

There was a lot of talk and high expectations coming into the FCC’s Advanced Wireless Spectrum (AWS) auctions this summer. The cable companies, and satellite companies all made grand claims that they were going to buy spectrum rights, and offer alternative wireless services to compete with the cellular phone incumbents. Even web companies like Google were rumored to be sniffing out the auctions for some licenses. However, as predicted by the analysts at Techdirt where I write, it was much bluster followed by little bidding.

Although the cable companies are interested in buying spectrum to get into wireless, they are more “bargain hunting” than doing essential purchasing. But, how can you expect to grab a bargain when the other bidders are out of your league? Consider the auction-aggressive T-Mobile, which is lagging against its cellular competitors, and is hampered in offering modern, 3G services by spectrum constraints. T-Mobile is the most driven in this auction, and will certainly bid more than the MSOs (an industry term for cable companies), and likely more than the other telcos. It’s about survival for them. Other incumbent telcos can also be expected to bid high, both to get the bandwidth to offer additional services, and to block the entry of new competitors…and even just to aggravate existing competitors.

Cingular bought spectrum from Nextwave in 2004, then AT&T Wireless, thus already has considerable spectrum in many markets, but they have cash so should be expected to bid for strategic licenses. Verizon is cash-rich, and has designs to expand services, so they will bid high, perhaps just more than Cingular. Sprint has plenty of existing spectrum all over the chart, so they can be expected to sit in the rear, and simply cherry pick, looking for bargains and to fill in regional weaknesses. In the end, of course the mobile telcos (including regional carriers Alltel and US Cellular) are likely to bid higher than the newer entrants. So why is that?

In general, the mobile telcos are investing in property rights which have proven to be of value to them, and in which they have proven their ability to exploit. They have the expertise to utilize the spectrum, and to extract more value from it than MSOs or new entrants. This is not solely because of expertise, but also because of pre-existing investment in technology, staff, tower real estate, nationwide retail facilities, switching equipment, service layers, roaming relationships, vendor relationships, volume purchasing scale, and other advantages that new entrants in wireless do not share. Take, for example, the rough start the MVNOs such as Amp’d, ESPN, and Disney are having in the USA - it’s not easy, cheap, or risk-free to become a wireless carrier, even just a virtual one. Spectrum auctions also require a fair amount of cash or access to capital. Any smaller players are thus, disadvantaged.

The next thing limiting the MSOs bidding enthusiasm is that they have formed a consortium with Sprint. This is a true complementary relationship, where the MSOs have high-capacity fixed Broadband plant that covers the last mile, and Sprint has nationwide wireless but no DSL. As partners, Sprint and Cable can effectively compete against Verizon or AT&T, which have both mobile and fixed services. Sprint has a large swath of 2.5GHz spectrum in which it plans to offer WiMAX mobile broadband service nationwide (covering 85% of the population), and perhaps the MSOs see this as an unbeatable advantage, in which it’s better to “join ‘em” than try to “beat ‘em”. Thus, the Sprint partnership definitely serves to lower the MSOs demand for the AWS spectrum.

Ultimately, despite all the early talk from DBS/Cable/new entrants, they would face a massive bill for infrastructure deployment if they were to go wireless. That necessitates access to cheap spectrum, or else the business model will fail. That’s why we never expected much from the DBS crowd in this auction. They’re as outgunned as Johnny Lunchbox at a Sotheby’s art auction.

As for the rumors that web companies like Google would be active in this auction: forget about it. Google is learning through their simple, one-city-at-a-time Wi-Fi networks that the wireless infrastructure business is very complex, and hardly offers the same share-price multiple of earnings as their current lines of business. Why would a company with a stock valuation such as theirs want to get into telecom, where the multiples are substantially less?

For better or for worse, the spectrum auction is just another situation where the incumbents and the big dogs dominate. There has been ample arguments that this lowers the net benefit to society, and thus the FCC has historically taken measures “give a leg up” to smaller participants. Smaller bidders have been offered 25% discounts and preferential financing terms that were not accessible to the big dogs. But the outcome of these measures was just systematic abuse; wherein the big players were fronted by smaller bidders. Effectively, the same big companies won the auctions, while also accessing the discounts that were intended to put them at a disadvantage. The FCC has worked to avoid letting the incumbents access the discounts this time, but has offered little to actually put small or new bidders on equal footing - but really, how could they? The advantages of the incumbents run deep; expect them to dominate.

Why You Will Need a Cell Phone In The Future?

Cell Phones No Comments

Cellular phone companies today offer many different kinds of plans, including several different ones for whole families. This generally means that one account has the ability to add on several other accounts. One of the reasons why people opt for this type of cellular plan is so parents can feel a sense of safety for their children. They realize that if there ever is a problematic event, they know their kids are just a phone call away.

However there is another issue involved with this type of cellular phone plan and it is that most children aren’t quite responsible enough to use their phone’s only for important circumstances. Due to this factor, many parents have had to fork out vast sums of money to cover the expenses from their children’s cellular phone accounts.

One of the ways to get around this issue is to lay down some ground rules before you allow your children access to a cellular phone. Sit down and discuss with them the costs involved with owning a cellular phone and draw out a map of how often they are allowed to use it for personal circumstances. If they exceed the amount that you agreed on they caution them once. If they do it again, then take their phone away from them for a month and tell them that if it happens a third time, you will cancel their account.

Some parents are even giving a cellular phone to their very young children. The types of cellular phone they generally give to younger children are the type that can only dial a few numbers, usually parent’s home, 911, as well as a grandparent’s home or some other location they can call for help if they need it. This is a great tool to use for protecting your children from any unfortunate danger. With a cellular phone, your child can call for help no matter where they are. Hopefully, the cellular phone won’t be needed but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

If you currently don’t have one of these family plans, it is recommended that you do so now. Not only does it give you the opportunity to make sure your children are completely safe, but it also teaches them to be responsible for later on down the track when they decide to buy their own cellular phones. In this modern age, those without fast effective communication are generally slipping back in time. Teaching your children to stay in touch, can create extraordinary results in the future.

Moisture and Cable Problems with your Phone

Cell Phones No Comments

It seems to me that the cable between the flip seems to be going bad. Opening it up and looking for cracks in the cable may help but ultimately you would have to replace the cable. That’s why motorola wants to charge you that amount of money. Repairs are expensive.

However the thing that seems to be shocking me is that you are still getting sound so that means that your phone didn’t crash. One thing comes to mind for you to try before you send it to Motorola, and that is to re-flash the phone with a new flex version and see if that helps.

But that is very risky and you shouldn’t attempt it unless you are sure that you now exactly what it is that you are doing.

Providing the phone hasn’t been dropped on hard surfaces numerous times, I really can’t think of any other reason why it should stop working, besides the fact the water indicator has turned red.
It seems to me the phone has been subjected to an excessive amount of moisture. Had the water been minimal, you wouldn’t be able to see the red dot, and the phone would’ve be working fine. There isn’t anything you can do in terms of button pressing, as it’ll just give you the same result; blank white screen. It appears the internal connections have been affected, and considering you don’t mind opening up your phone, you should go ahead. What you’re looking for is soiled/corroded/dark area’s on the phone’s chip. If you do spot such things, excessive water has past through the unit, and I’d advise you to fork out that $75 or perhaps invest in a new phone. If everything seems fine within the phone, just check the wiring anyway. It’s highly unlikely the wires would be disconnected/loose connection, and if it did, I can only assume its taken several hard knocks to get like that, perhaps beyond what the phone can handle.

It does sound like water or moisture may have gotten into the phone. Unfortunately, when that happens, as it sounds like you already know, that invalidates any warranties. Issues with the dreaded white screen on several of the models like the 505 and oftentimes, a firmware update will solve the problem. I would suggest checking with your wireless provider and seeing if there is a firmware update. I agree that $75 is too high a price to get it fixed. If you decide to fix it yourself, you could make it worse. I don’t believe that the white screen indictes a loose connection or unattached connection.

Product Review of the Motorola Rizr z3

Cell Phones No Comments

Obviously, it’s really old news that the MOTORAZR series has achieved rock star status. We’ve known this for a few years, and Motorola has emerged as the handset producer with the most momentum. Of course, this means that they need to continue to produce huge sellers. Can Motorola keep up its progress? We will soon see. The latest attempt to yet again crush the competition is the Motorola Rizr.
The Motorola Rizr Z3 is the newest in the MOTORAZR design series. While sporting a very razr-lize look, the rizr adds slider style to its appeal. The slider models produced by other manufacturers have sold quite well, but have never achieved status near the Razr. Motorola plans to be the first to release a slider that takes a significant share of the market. The Rizr will be the first slider model released by Motorola here in the U.S.. Motorola previously released a slider model in Asia. Motorola has beed planning to release this model in Q4 of 2006.
The Moto Rizr Z3 will be GSM 850/900/1800/1900 plus EDGE, so it should connect easily to most GSM providers, when unlocked. The model also will support stereo Bluetooth, which has become a must have in the digital market. This allows for beaming of music via Bluetooth to and from a pc. The model still supports USB 2.0, which is important as many users won’t yet have a computer Bluetooth connection.
Motorola has found a secret weapon that isn’t much talked of. TFT technology allows for extremely clear screens. Thin film transistors placed on the glass allow for an increase in picture clarity. Motorola has been using the technology on all the phones in the MOTORAZR series, and users have really taken to the increased screen clarity.
Motorola has obviously seen that the slider market is untapped, and have taken the proper measures to get a significant piece of it.
Let’s give some reasons why the Motorola Rizr will be a smash hit. First, we should address the rock star status of the Razr series. Who doesn’t have a Razr these days? The Rizr will be the latest and greatest from Motorola, and we predict that at least a few hundred thousand will pick it up. The Razr was a buying craze, and the Rizr should follow suit. The features of the Rizr will add some buyers, as Motorola has added a 2 megapixel camera, and a Micro SD cardslot. These upgraded features will be able to pull in delayed buyers that have been waiting for a better digital camera. Many users still hang on to old features like speaker phone, and the Rizr complies. The Rizr speakerphone has a nice sound, very similar to the speakerphone on the Razr. The Lithium-Ion battery allows for up to 9 days stand by and about 3 hours of talk time.
Lastly, the MotoRizr has a fresh look and a rockin’ screen. Surely, Motorola has hit paydirt again.
Overall, the Rizr offers an innovative slider design with really impressive features. The MOTORIZR sports a innovative mobile package for those interested in media, design, style, and functionality.

The MOTORIZR is uniquely crafted with a wicked slim design.

Appealing to the senses, the device offers excellent digital imaging and presentation.

Offering needed functionality and style, the Rizr is sure to be a smash.

Ring Tone, Phone Problems

Cell Phones No Comments

Don’t be fooled by these network protocols. There are several ways to get ringtones unto those phones.

Firstly; you can purchase the datacable and the software (Mobile Phone Tools) for the phone. You can get this at any phone outlet or even online. With this you can then create and transfer images, wallpapers, movies and mp3 ringtones to and from the phone.

Secondly; you can purchase the Bluetooth Dongle (USB Adapter), and then use this to transfer your images and ringtones from your PC to your phone and vice-versa. This will all be done using the bluetooth wireless technology.

Thirdly; you can go online and find some free ringtones that you like and then have them transferred to your phone directly off the internet using WAP technology.

You can also even get the ringtones texted using MMS to your phone or you can even have them emailed to you.

The first thing that you have to do to add a Caller ID ringtone, is that you have to save the contact on the phone and not on the SIM. This option can be found in the new contact option. It is on the same list as the contact’s name and number, etc. you have to change the ’store to’ option to store to phone and not store to SIM.

Once this is done, you will notice that you can now enter a lot more information for that contact in particular. One of the new fields added would be Caller ID ringtone. Just select the option and choose a ringtone, then save and select done to finalize.

These are the best options for you to choose from.
If you want the ringtone and it does exist, then what you need to do is to give me the name of it or at least direct me to a couple of movies where it is played or something like that.

Once you can give me this info and I know what to look for. I will find it and direct you to it.

you can download ringtones to your mobile phone using a data cble which you need to buy and nokia pc suite which you can download over the net in nokia website.i am not sure if your carrier provides ringtones for download for your phone.that you have to check with your provider.

The Mosquito Ring tone or as it is more commonly known as the “TEEN BUZZ” ring tone was hijacked from a technology that was originally used to repel loitering teenagers from shops in the United Kingdom. Inventor Howard Stapleton developed the “Mosquito device” for Compound Security Systems. This device emits a modulated 17khz sound that proves to be a great annoyance to teenagers or anyone younger, but leaves most over twenty years of age unaffected. It was marketed as an ultrasonic teenager repellent, an ear-splitting 17-kilohertz buzzer designed to help shopkeepers disperse young people loitering in front of their stores while leaving adults unaffected. The Teen Buzz Ringtone (also known as Mosquito Ringtone, Mosquitotone or Zumbitone) is a cell phone ring tone that is too high-pitched for most adults to hear. It is a constant high-frequency (14.4 khz) tone.

Reasonable Cell Phone and Manufacturers

Cell Phones No Comments

From my experience, I have found that Nokia and Motorola phones are typically the best as it relates to reception. The Nokia phones typically make better use of the battery, though it varies from model to model. I would suggest looking at the specs for any phone you are considering and look at both talk time and standby time. A phone that has 12 hours of talk time is excellent, but more phones these days have less talk time because of the graphics and additional features. 7 hours of talk time, is actually pretty good these days.

Keep in mind that if you are going to use a Bluetooth headset that Bluetooth is a huge drain on the battery and you will see your battery life shorten significantly. If you are going to use Bluetooth, I would suggest one of the Motorola headsets that is only on when you open it versus one that stays on all the time. These are much more efficient.

To get the most out of a cell phone, it is always a good idea to purchase a phone from a cellular provider. The reason for this is that the cellular providers put devices through rugged testing and only choose devices that meet strict criteria, including reception, dropped calls, etc.

Many of the manufacturers make phones for both CDMA and GSM networks. There are devices that are great on the CDMA network, but not so good on the GSM netWith the major providers, you will need to have a device from that provider. You don’t have to buy a new device, but you wouldn’t be able to start up service unless you had a device from that provider. So, if you purchased an unlocked GSM device on-line and then went to T-Mobile, for example, and provided them with the IMEI number of that device, they would tell you that the device was not a T-Mobile device and that you would not be able to start up service without a T-Mobile device.

If, however, you started up service with T-Mobile and got a phone at little or no charge and then purchased an unlocked GSM device on-line, you could take the SIM card from your T-Mobile phone and put it into the new device and it would work.

A couple of things to keep in mind. The major carriers all test the devices they sell extensively and only sell devices that meet very specific criteria. If you were to use a device that was not supported by the carrier, you may have issues, such as dropped calls, etc.

When you purchase your device through the carriers, with your service, the device is under warranty (typically 12 months) with the provider. You are also guaranteed that the device has been tested on the specific network, etc.

So, since it appears that you already have cell service…if it is GSM service (i.e., T-Mobile or Cingular) and you purchased a GSM phone on line, all you would have to do is put your SIM card in the device.

If you have CDMA, Verizon or Sprint, you are going to have a much harder time because CDMA does not use SIM cards - your wireless number is associated with the ESN number of the device. I believe you would have a hard time getting them to put your non-carrier phone ESN into the system.

Most providers will allow you to upgrade your phone every 24 months and at that time, you can take advantage of the same types of discounts that new customers get on devices.
work.

Why are some Phones Locked and Unlocked

Cell Phones No Comments

The term GSM means - Global System for Mobile Communications. It is the most popular standard for mobile phones in the world. GSM differs significantly from its predecessors in that both signaling and speech channels are Digital call quality, which means that it is considered a second generation (2G) mobile phone system. GSM is an open standard which is currently developed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).

From the point of view of the consumer, the key advantage of GSM systems has been higher digital voice quality and low cost alternatives to making calls such as text messaging. The advantage for network operators has been the ability to deploy equipment from different vendors because the open standard allows easy inter-operability. Like other cellular standards GSM allows network operators to offer roaming services which mean subscribers can use their phones all over the world.

To help you further understand, GSM is simply a standard used by phones to communicate with each other. It is a new standard that has been adopted to all new models of phones and is now so prevailant that it has become the ‘norm’ in the phone world.

Now to answer your other question, with respect to locked and unlocked phones. A phone is locked when it is attached to network. For example if you go to AT&T and purchase a phone from them then that phone is said to be locked unto the AT&T network and as such it cannot work on another network such as SPRINT or NEXTEL. Thus an unlocked phone is a phone that is bought, that is not locked to any network. And as such it can work on any network.

The network it will lock unto will depend on the SIM card you put into the phone. For example if you put a AT&T sim in an unlocked phone then it will work on the AT&T network. In the same way if you put a NEXTEL SIM card in an unlocked phone then it will work on the NEXTEL network.

However if the phone is locked to a particular network, like say for example AT&T then changing the SIM card in the phone to another SIM card from another network such as NEXTEL will not work. This is because the phone is locked unto to AT&T network and as such will not work on any other network.

Yes, you can use the prepaid SIM card on the phone once the phone is either unlocked or on the same network as the SIM card you are going to put into it. It should work just fine.

Mobile Service on Your Phone

Cell Phones No Comments

You can visit a mobile service centre and they should be able to reset the lock code for a small fee. Alternatively you could try entering the lock code incorrectly 3 times or until it asks for your PUK code. Once it asks for your PUK code, you can enter it and your lock code should be reseted to default settings (maybe 12345). This is the case with alot of Nokia phones, but it could erase your contacts. To be safe, you might be better off going using my first suggestion.

The wireless providers use either the SIM card number from GSM providers (Cingular and T-Mobile) or the ESN number on a device (Verizon and Sprint) to associate your wireless number. These numbers should never be given out to anyone except your provider (or authorized reseller). I can’t imagine why a game company needs your IMEI number, except because they may put that into a database to associate you with the “license” he is providing to you. There is no way that he can track your IMEI since it is not sent through anything wirelessly. Personally, I would not send your actual IMEI. I would take a look at your IMEI on your device and then change the last three or four digits and send that to him. He won’t know the difference, believe me. It’s the first 5-7 digits or so that identify the type of device, so if you tell him you have a Motorola Razr, for example, and he knows anything about IMEI’s, he will know that the Razr’s IMEI starts with 3571234, for example (not real, just an example).

In this case, sending the IMEI number should be fine. The person needs it to prevent software piracy. Each phone has a unique number to identify it, so once the person has your IMEI number, the passcode will only work for your phone. Its just a safeguard to prevent you from passing the game onto someone else.
An IMEI number is also used to disable a phone, so for example your phone was stolen, if you were to contact your network provider quoting your IMEI number, they’ll be able to disable the phone, so whoever has it wont be able to use it, even if they were to place their own sim card into it. Of course, I’m sure network providers ask security questions first to make sure you were the owner of the phone.

Your IMEI number is a unique number that identifies your phone. For example, if I had that number I could remotely hack into your phone and empty your credits.

Your Cell Phone Is Garbage And It’s Your Fault

Cell Phones No Comments

Let’s be honest for a few minutes. You hate your cell phone. How do I know? I know because I’ve hated almost every cell phone I’ve had.

Let me guess. Your phone is slow. Every time you try to access your list of phone numbers, you want to pull your hair out. Let’s try another one. Your old phone got better reception than your new one. Your battery only lasts long enough to make sure that the number you’re calling hasn’t been disconnected. My personal favorite is when you’re trying to set up a business meeting and your phone drops the call like 85 times. I know for a fact that you’ve opened up your bill to find an amount three times larger than it should have been. Some of you have seen cell phone bills over $1000. If you have, join the club. I’m the president.
As a ‘has been’ cell phone representative, I’ve heard every cell phone hate story there is.

The fact of the matter is that most cell phones are garbage. Hey, I’m just being honest here. If I hit my quick key button for text messaging, I have to wait four seconds for anything to happen. Then I choose ‘new message’, and have to wait another three for the screen to change. The honest truth is that most people would just as well throw their phones off a bridge.

The fact of the matter is that your cell phone is garbage and it’s your fault. You jumped in the car, drove to the mall, and bought the hottest looking phone on the shelf. Some of you bought your garbage because the sales person told you too. You didn’t even consider that he might have more commission on garbage that doesn’t cost the store as much, did you? Well in all honesty I tried to tell people which phones were the best, but I worked with guys who didn’t! Here’s a dirty little secret that shouldn’t be a secret: Sales people look out for themselves. I honestly don’t understand how people don’t know this little fact!

Since I’ve spent some time with those on the dark side, let me give you a little advice. Never listen to the man behind the counter. Do me a favor. Go to the store knowing which phone you’re going to buy. Do a little research beforehand, and you will spend the two years of your contract in bliss.

Take a little time and find a good forum. Forums are places where people can get together to talk about all different topics. Of course, there are quite a few forums online where people talk about cell phones. You can find out what phones people like, and what phones they hate! You can find out if the screen is dull, or if the operating system is slow. There are forums for all different brands including Motorola, Nokia, and others. There are also some cell phone research sites where you can read positives and negatives on each model.

Here’s another word of advice: Don’t buy an off brand model. Buy from Nokia, Motorola, or another of the biggies. If you buy a model you’ve never heard of, I won’t feel bad for you when you hate it. Pay attention carefully to what other people say in forums. They are the real experts.

Best of luck to you with your search for a quality cell phone.

Antennas That You Should Consider for Better Signals

Cell Phones No Comments

If you have absolutely no signal at your house and have to travel a distance before you pick up a signal the prospects are grim. If you have some kind of signal outside of house then an external antenna should help you. The external antenna is the nature os signle used in cellular phones.

Televisions operate in a different frequency range than cellular phones, so hooking up to the television because you think it will improve or signal, will not improve your signal at all. Stick antennas, are of little help as well. But most of the cellular phone stores do sell regulare antennas for cellular phones.

In addition to an external antenna, an inline amplifier would strengthen your signal even more. External mount cell phone antennas can give you better strengthen indoors as well. To stay up to date with your antenna signal, you should update your cellular phone, to the most recent tower listing at least once a mouth.

But be careful to get one that works with digital phones. The old style phones that worked on analong will not work with digital phones.

There are antenna’s that you can mount on the roof of your house. This, of course, would require you to be connected to the antenna. Cellular Compnaies have booster or temp sites that they use to boost the signal for events.

However, to get one of these antennas would be very expensive and I’m not too sure where you would be able to even get one.

Your best change for gaining a signal in your house will be with a Yagi antenna on the roof with a cellular amplifier in the antenna line to boost the signal.

The Yagi antenna is a directional antenna that you aim at the tower. There are two Yagi antennae for cellular. One is for the 800 MHz band and the other is for the 1900 MHz band.

In order to find out which one of this bands are in your location, you will need to contact your cell phone company. So that they can determine which one is in that location.

The Cell Zone wireless cell phone signal booster is a revolutionary, patent pending new product that greatly improves indoor cell phone coverage. There are no monthly fees, no programs to install, and no calls to the carrier to set up service. Simply put the signal antenna outdoors where there is signal, run the cable to the base unit, plug it in and instantly you have created a new cell zone! The signal booster captures the wireless signal outside, brings it inside to the antenna amplifier and enhances, or boosts, the cell phone signal in your home or office where you need it the most. The signal booster not only reduces/eliminates static and dropped calls, but it also improves battery life of your wireless phone since your cell phone uses less power when the signal is stronger. And unlike other lesser quality cell phone signal boosters out in the market, the Cell Zone works wirelessly so you do not need to plug your cell phone into the booster!

If a particular carrier uses both frequencies in your area, the website will list that carrier several times in order of the most cell sites of a particular frequency within your zip code.

Cell Phones and the Best Plan That Might Work for You

Cell Phones No Comments

I can only advise you of the 2 best companies in the industry as far as reports from the FCC on companies that have the best customer service and receive the fewest complaints to the FCC per million customers. If you can, I would go with U.S. Cellular or Verizon. They are both wonderful companies and carry good quality brand phones, such as Nokia, Motorola and LG. If you are getting new service or renewing a contract with either of these companies, you can get a new phone for practically nothing.

Manufacturers will get the phones to a test group and then have them use the phone and report back the results. This could be the case here. I would have to say that if the manufacturers website doesn’t list it as released, then I would be leary about spending my money on it.

I would recommend going with Verizon Wireless. They offer one of the best networks in the industry and are a customer focused company. As far as phones, if you are looking at the most bang for your buck, I would recommend the LG 3300 or the Motorola V276,if you want a camera phone. Both phones are fairly priced and provide great quality.

There are many pros and cons associated with buying a cellphone, whether it is Contract or Pay as You Go. Over here in the UK Pay as You Go has been very popular now that the mobile operators have realised that it is a realistic solution to draw in a younger market. Most of the Pay as You Go options that I am aware of in the US are quite frankly ludicrous due to the fact that the operator who supply them are still trying to take too much of a cut. Take for example this section from Verizon Wireless Pay as You Go small print:
